Wallet lost in Bridgehampton

Sep 25, 2009 4:25 PM

A woman driving from the Bridgehampton Post Office, where she is employed, to the Bridgehampton Commons lost her wallet Friday afternoon at around 2:45 p.m.—and Town Councilwoman Nancy Graboski is asking the public to help.

Michelle Stevens was getting into her car in the parking lot at the post office when she left her wallet on the roof of her vehicle, and when she made a turn into the Bridgehampton Commons for a stop at the drug store, the wallet flew off the roof of her car, said Ms. Graboski, who happened onto the scene a short time later.

Ms. Stevens had returned to the location where she made the turn as soon as she realized she no longer had her wallet, Ms. Graboski said. The wallet was not there.

The missing wallet is a black Buxton wallet, and Ms. Graboski said it contained a significant amount of money, because Ms. Stevens had just made a bank withdrawal.

Anyone who finds the wallet should call the Southampton Town Police at (631) 728-3400.

Good luck finding the wallet - my stepmom had the same problem years ago and it was never returned. My wallet was missing 3 years ago and someone actually returned it with all $4.00 in it!

The LI honest Project did exactly this. 10 wallets -- only one returned.

good luck michelle! i hope whoever found it does the right thing.
if it doesnt show up, we should take up a collection to cover her loss, because that is the kind of town that Bridgehampton is and we care about michelle.

When I left a wallet in a cab in the City years ago containing $400 in cash - someone picked it up rather than turning it in to the taxi driver, contacted a relative of mine, got my telephone number, and got in touch with me to return it . . . cash and all. I had a thank you card with $50.00 in it when I met him - not knowing whether the money was still in it or not. It was. I was so happy to hear today that the wallet has been returned - hope this makes front page news! If you cannot trust ...more

It really isn't news, is it?

More like the community service kind of thing that WLNG does.

However, if the wallet is returned, contents intact, THAT would be news!
