A worker was run over by construction equipment at a work site in Bridgehampton on Friday morning and was flown by medevac helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The victim, identified as 52-year-old Christopher Tripodi of Bellport, suffered a “serious leg injury,” according to Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph. He was in fair condition on Tuesday, according to Stony Brook University Hospital officials.

The incident occurred at about 11:35 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street and the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike. Lt. Ralph explained that the driver of a skid steer, which is a small type of bulldozer, did not see him and ran him over.

Southampton Town Police and the Bridgehampton Fire Department responded to the scene.

This is the second accident within the past two weeks involving machinery. On February 18, a 44-year-old man, Hector O. Duarte-Rogue, was run over by a tractor forklift at the Montauk Lake Club and Marina. He was pronounced dead at Southampton Hospital.
