Thiele Co-sponsors Bill Against Selling Of Unbranded Gasoline

Jun 16, 2011 11:52 AM

New York State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. has co-sponsored legislation that would make gasoline supply agreements that prohibit gasoline retailers from selling unbranded gasoline illegal.

The legislation would enable gas stations to purchase cheaper motor fuel on the wholesale market from alternative suppliers and pass the savings on to the consumer.

Mr. Thiele said the bill would provide some relief by enabling retail dealers to purchase fuel from alternative suppliers in the open market, which could lower the price of gas they sell and create an overall more competitive marketplace for consumers.

Is it just me, or does the headline contradict the story?

Uhh, it's not fixed. The bill would promote the sale of unbranded gas - it is not "...Against Selling Of Unbranded Gasoline."

D'oh! You're right. I think the head is finally fixed now...apologies.

Alrighty then...now why doesn't Fred or anybody in Albany sponsor a bill that would set all gasoline taxes, including sales tax, to a fixed per gallon charge rather than a percentage of the sales price? Could it be that while talking the good talk, the politicos really like the revenue that rises as the gas prices do?

Looks like nobody cares anyway...
