Couple robbed at gunpoint in their car

Feb 25, 2009 9:18 AM

East Hampton Town Police said a man and his girlfriend were robbed at gunpoint by four males on Muir Boulevard in East Hampton soon after midnight on Saturday, February 14.

The victims, a 32-year-old East Hampton man, and a woman whose age was not provided, were sitting in the woman’s car, talking, when the group surrounded them, opened the doors, and pointed what appeared to be a shotgun at their heads and demanded money, according to police.

The couple did not report the incident until February 18, because they were afraid, said Detective Sgt. Chris Anderson. The couple was unable to provide a detailed description of the assailants.

The four males took the man’s prescription glasses, which were worth $350, and the woman’s cell phone, which was worth $200, and an MP3 player, worth $610.

Detective Sgt. Anderson this week said police were investigating the holdup and would not say whether they had any leads or suspects.

“That they didn’t come forward right away creates some obstacles for us,” Detective Sgt. Anderson said.

According to police, the woman went to the man’s house on Muir Boulevard at about 11 p.m. on February 13 and asked him to come out to her car to talk. Soon afterward, according to police, a dark sedan pulled up next to her car and remained there for about 15 seconds before driving away. At 12:10 a.m., four males wearing bandanas walked up behind the vehicle, two on each side, and opened the doors, demanding money.

The man told police he did not immediately report the incident because the four had threatened to kill him if he told police. He also said that, as the four fled, they dropped the woman’s keys, which the man recovered.

Detective Sgt. Anderson would not comment on whether there were fingerprints on the keys.

Police contacted the woman at her job and she told them that the men also tried to steal her car stereo, but were unsuccessful.

Police said a downstairs neighbor of the male victim told them he had not seen or heard anything.

“The whole incident lasted a few short minutes. It was not a prolonged encounter,” Detective Sgt. Anderson said. “At this point, it appears to be an isolated incident.”

Four males wearing bandanas? Are we so politically correct that we can't describe their ethnicity? We sure don't want to offend these criminals. I mean, would it be so terrible to try and prevent them from doing this again? Before they kill someone?

WHBinManhattan I was thinking the same thing myself. Rest assured though that if they were WHITE that WOULD have been included in the article.

Methinks there is more to this story than the facts we know so far and it is not about the ethnicity of the alleged perps but possibly in their links to one of the alleged victims.
Great as written to flush out the race baiters though.

If they're white, they're white! Find them and prosecute them! What's sad for you pstevens is making an assumption regarding my statement, which exposes your ignorance. Read it again.

DUH, some of you folks are so hung up on race, etc. that you can't see that the chick WAS IN ON THE WHOLE THING. What, they couldn't talk in the house? She set him up. You are NOT hired as detectives.
