Jul 15, 2015 9:36 AMA yellow party bus caught fire late Sunday morning, temporarily closing both eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway and causing extensive delays for more than two hours.
The front of the bus, which reads “Short Bus Trolley” on its side, caught fire at around 11:30 a.m. between Exits 58 and 59 in Moriches. Suffolk County Police closed both eastbound lanes for about 30 minutes and restricted traffic to one lane until about 2 p.m.
The bus was evacuated, and no injuries were reported, according to Suffolk County Police. The Center Moriches Fire Department responded to the scene to douse the flames.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, according to authorities. Police said they were not sure where the converted school bus was heading on Sunday morning.
