Manorville Girl Returns Home From Hospital

Feb 21, 2012 6:38 PM

Four months after the tragic accident that killed both her mother and older brother, Marialena Trinca returned to her Manorville home last Thursday, February 16, after spending two months in a nearby rehabilitation facility.

Marialena, 4, had been hospitalized since October 8 when her mother, Keri Trinka, was driving her 1998 Honda Accord eastbound on Oceanview Boulevard Extension when it was broadsided while entering the intersection with County Road 111. As a result of the accident, both Ms. Trinka and her 7-year-old son, Jason, were killed. Ms. Trinka’s 2-year-old son, Christopher, was also taken to the hospital, but was released in late October.

Marialena, who is known as “Freshie” to friends and family, suffered a traumatic brain injury during the crash, and has spent the last few months at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson. Both her father, Jason Trinka, and her younger brother were with Marialena when she went home last week.

According to a press release issued by St. Charles Hospital, Mr. Trinka expressed his gratitude and thanks to family, friends, the medical and rehabilitation team at St. Charles and people from across Long Island who have offered the family compassion and support.
