Flanders Man Charged In Assault With Dumbbell

Oct 23, 2012 6:08 PM

A Flanders man was arrested by Southampton Town Police after an alleged assault Friday night at his Brookhaven Avenue home.

Trever S. Jackson, 18, was involved in a dispute about 9:30 p.m. in which he hit a male acquaintance in the head and face with a 25-pound dumbbell.

The teen was arrested at 11:10 p.m. at the scene and charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies. He was taken to police headquarters and held for a Saturday morning arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court. A call to the court seeking his arraignment outcome on Monday was not immediately returned. Police said it appeared Mr. Jackson was released on his own recognizance.

The victim was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment.
