East Hampton Town Republican Committee Celebrates President Trump With Inauguration Ball

The 2017 presidential race was filled with harsh words, but there were nothing but good vibes booming from the American Legion building in Amagansett on Friday night as the East Hampton Town Republican Committee celebrated the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump.

More than 150 guests filled the ballroom of the American Legion post, in which red, blue, white and gold balloons hovered over tables decorated with American flags. Songs like Don McLean’s “American Pie” and Dion’s “The Wanderer” played loudly as committee members and guests danced the night away.

Many of the attendees were dressed in fancy gowns and other formal attire. One who donned a fresh tuxedo was Martin Baietti, a Sagaponack resident and retired teacher from Pelham who said he felt change in the air.

“It feels like a whole new thing,” Mr. Baietti said. “Everyone is happy for the change—nobody’s angry at anyone in the room tonight. We just want the U.S. to function again.”

The celebratory night was also quite casual, with local friends chatting about everything from daily life to the controversial election. The Trump victory was definitely the motivator of the night, however, with a live stream of Fox News’s coverage of Friday’s inauguration playing on a large screen, and a cardboard cutout of the president in the corner for impromptu photo shoots.

The word “deplorables” was literally worn as a badge of honor by Lucille Berrill Paulsen, who had “DEPLORABLE” in black lettering taped across her chest.

“Hillary called us ‘deplorable,’ and we thank her for it,” she explained. “It was so outrageous and it helped Trump win.”

A friend, Linda Tejpaul of Upper Brookville, chimed in with hopes that the nasty dialogue between supporters and protesters will die down now that the race is over. “I can remember driving with Lucille saying, ‘I hope the dialogue will improve,’” said Ms. Tejpaul. “We should be able to work together, because we’re all Americans.

“I’m so proud to be able to come to this moment,” she continued.

“It was hard because you can’t really talk about it in public. You’re scrutinized for it,” said Paige DiSunno. “I was never timid about it throughout the race, though.”

“We are greatly outnumbered in this community, and people tend to make us pariahs,” said Carole Campolo of Springs, one of the organizers of the evening. “We’d like to see an argument made on an intellectual basis and not name-calling. We think we have the argument.”

Food, drink and laughs were passed around the American Legion building, but committee members said that beyond the celebration, there is much work ahead for the new president.

“I truly think he wants to do the right thing for America,” said James DiSunno. “He wants to make us safe and fix the economy, and he’s ready to show everyone what he can do.”

“Now it’s time to perform,” said Kenneth Dunne of Manorville, who added that President Trump inspires America to be the “shining city on a hill,” the phrase John Winthrop used to describe what he thought America could be in 1630s, and what Ronald Reagan hoped America could be even as he bid farewell to his presidency on national television on January 11, 1989.

“Tonight gives people a chance to bring happiness to each other, but we’re definitely behind the 8-ball here,” Ms. Campolo said.

“Donald Trump is going to need each and every one of us to help get the government to be in the service of the people,” Party Chairman Reg Cornelia told the crowd after saluting the veterans in attendance, and thanking the American Legion for hosting the event, as well as anyone else who had helped in the effort to “make American great again.”

That change in the air mentioned by Mr. Baietti was probably coming from Trump. He always looks like he's suffering from just having eaten a bad bit of cheese.

That's because the liberals and Democrats had promised such extreme violence against Trump supporters (and did in fact engage in widespread acts of violence) that attending the inauguration was about as risky as walking through downtown Aleppo. Nearly 63 million people voted for Trump and support him. That's why he's the POTUS. Say it out loud - Trump is PRESIDENT. That's only 4% less votes than Obama got. There was not a 4% difference in attendees so there was clearly another factor - liberal's ...more

Inauguration ratings second biggest in 36 years; Likely highest ever when adding online viewing...

Most Republicans would have done anything to attend the inauguration, but were to busy.

They had to go to work!

On his first day, Trump told at least three lies.

One elderly Trump supporter punched one protester in the face at a Trump rally and it was in the news for weeks and every Trump supporter was a racist, violent, anti-gay, no good for nothing.
Anti-Trump protestor burn cars, break windows, punch Trump supporters in the face, make speeches about blowing up the white House now that Trump is in it and the press doesn't criticize them or condemn their acts.

Word has it the GOP will have some compassion for Trump:

I had breakfast recently with a friend who's a former Republican member of Congress. Here's what he said:

Him: Trump is no Republican. He’s just a big fat ego.

Me: Then why didn’t you speak out against him during the campaign?

Him: You kidding? I was surrounded by Trump voters. I’d have been shot.

Me: So what now? What are your former Republican colleagues going to do?

Him ...more

Every poster on this list knows to provide sources. This could be a figment of your imagination for all we know. Ideology has nothing to do with behavior as you indicate, so how about we refrain from foolish generalizations? Makes you feel good, I know. But more importantly, it makes you look foolish.

Many Arrested Inauguration Day Protesters Will Face Felony Rioting Charges, Prosecutors Say

WASHINGTON (CBSNEWS/AP) – 230 protesters arrested on Inauguration Day will be charged with felony rioting, federal prosecutors said.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Hopefully they will be picking up Madonna, Ashley Judd, and Shia Labeouf by the morning!

Notice the correlation between the bilious anger from the right and the frightening level of incompetence of the administration. The more Trump and his goons misfire, the more vile the attacks against those 27 et. al regard as their enemy. Little do they realize it's the know-nothing, rank amateur, authoritarian administration with a severely ill narcissist at the titular head that is endangering them and us, and in multiple ways.

People are up in arms because of the temporary ban of Muslims, or are they up in arms because it is Trump that did it? Most people don't want to confront the reality of letting in mass migrations of Muslims. Look at where it has happened.

"Mainstream Muslim culture" - you know you are talking about a group of 1.6 billion people all over the world, right? To stereotype and generalize them all is absolutely ridiculous. That's like saying anyone who identifies as Christian abides by the same cultural rules, regardless of where they're from. How many Christians do you know? How many Christians out there don't you know? Think about those who live in Asia, Africa, South America. Think about the fundamentalists as well as the ones that ...more
