Paul Manafort Looks To Spend Christmas In The Hamptons

Dec 19, 2017 4:35 PM

Paul Manafort is coming to the Hamptons for Christmas—but that doesn’t mean he’s off the U.S. government’s official “naughty” list.

According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., on Monday, Mr. Manafort’s legal team asked the court to allow the former chairman of President Donald Trump’s political campaign to change the terms of his house arrest on federal charges to allow him to spend five days this month at his Bridgehampton home for the Christmas season.

Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III in October charged Mr. Manafort with money laundering and lying about his work advising a Russia-friendly political party in the Ukraine. Mr. Manafort is currently under house arrest at his condo in Alexandria, Virginia, being watched by GPS monitoring.

The request asks for those conditions be transferred to his Bridgehampton home from December 22 to 26, along with permission to travel between his Bridgehampton home and the home of his in-laws in East Hampton.

“More recently, the family has sought to gather in New York because of the advanced age and physical impairments of certain close family members,” the request reads. “Specifically, the age and/or infirmness of certain individuals living in East Hampton, NY, now prevents them from traveling, or only traveling with great efforts being made to do so.”

The request goes on to explain that Mr. Manafort has family members visiting from California, Illinois, Connecticut and New York to celebrate the holidays. His legal team argues that mandating that he stay at his condo in Virginia would “splinter the family’s regular religious celebration” and would not provide “adequate accommodations” for his close family and other guests.

The request noted that Mr. Mueller’s office conferred with Mr. Manafort’s legal team and the special counsel had no objection.

According to Stefan Becket, senior news editor of CBSNews.com, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson stated that the request would be agreed upon, with certain conditions. Mr. Manafort would have to provide the court with a detailed itinerary of his flight schedule; specific dates, times and addresses of visits with his family in East Hampton; and the time, date and addresses of any religious events that he and his family plan to attend on Christmas Eve.

Mr. Manafort has until December 20 at noon to file the itinerary with the court.

Excuse me, what has he been convicted of? Oh right, nothing.

Too bad he wasn't the kind of accused you'd immediately feel sympathy for, like a Black Lives Matter cop killer.

Perhaps he can bring along his ghost writer too.

Comrade Paul is welcome to spend his Rubles where he wants, its a free country, or will be until we let his boss Putin, aka Stalin Lite, buy the next President too. Maybe he can buy more real estate here with money Putin and his friends stole from their fellow citizens and gave to Mr. Manafort to lobby for their right to steal from the Ukrainian people, without of course identifying himself as a foreign agent which just happens to be almost the last law.left restricting foreigners from buying votes ...more

Figures. The Clintons like it here, Biden likes it here and now some guy who was illegally working with the Russians while working for John Podesta under the obama administration likes it here. All the same people that bought and sold hillary Clinton spent all last summer doing the same with Kamala Harris. Elite establishment democrats lol even the Hamptons

Imagine if we found out that obama allowed hezbollah to sell coke to Americans to make Iranian terrorists happy so they would allow obama to help them get nukes?

Actually, No need to imagine

Your boy Barry will go down in history as the prez who added more to the debt than any other, but he's a liberal pseudo Marxist so I guess that's OK with you JuneZ?
By bigfresh (4666), north sea on Dec 20, 17 2:10 PM
He added less than 1 trillion.

If you actually bother to do the math and not lie like a rug much like the current president.

Like to see someone with courage and address Medicare and social security reform. That would help to reign in debt. It’s a reality given the low interest rate environment and increase in mortality that should be address.

I know you wrote "address Medicare and Social security" but what you mean to say is "raise retirement age and increase the amount seniors on medicare have to pay out of pocket"
By Fore1gnBornHBgrown (8265), HAMPTON BAYS on Dec 22, 17 3:28 PM
Well duh! It has to be one or the other. Raise the retirement age to 67 for anyone who is under 50....and yes I’m under 50. When these entitlements were enacted life expectancy was far less than it is today.
By razza5350 (1911), East Hampton on Dec 23, 17 6:04 AM
The retirement age was already raised to 67 for anyone born in 1960 and later...
By Fore1gnBornHBgrown (8265), HAMPTON BAYS on Dec 23, 17 4:40 PM
SS and Medicare changes to anyone less than 50 years old.
SS....currently Benefits can begin at age 62. Change that to 67 with max benefits at age 70. 10% of monies can be invested in an age weighted equity portfolio.
Medicare. Benefits begin at age 67.
By razza5350 (1911), East Hampton on Dec 23, 17 6:46 PM
I could get onboard with something that raises the age to qualify but retains the current benefits intact.

Remind me, was it President Obama who convinced everyone to invade Iraq based on false intelligence, thereby spending $2 TRILLION for no return to the United States except for wounded combat veterans and an expanding Iranian dominance in the Middle East? Or was that the Republican Party?

At least we get a big tax cut in return for adding ANOTHER $1.5 TRILLION to our national debt -- oops, that's right our local property taxes that pay for the Florida retirement and full healthcare benefits ...more
By dfree (818), hampton bays on Dec 22, 17 7:16 AM
That is not exactly correct dfree. The first 10k is deductible.
By dnice (2346), Hampton Bays on Dec 22, 17 8:26 AM
Sure they are. So, what are you paying for health care? Deductible go up much this year? Good job repealing and replacing Obamacare with something much better, Republican Party, you sure know how to fix a problem.

Advocating for higher taxes and taking full advantage of existing law are not mutually exclusive.
By Fore1gnBornHBgrown (8265), HAMPTON BAYS on Dec 22, 17 11:14 AM

By June Bug (2680), SOUTHAMPTON on Dec 22, 17 12:06 PM
dfree, that is a different argument. I simply stated that your position on the deductibility of real estate tax was erroneous.
By dnice (2346), Hampton Bays on Dec 22, 17 1:29 PM
Slimy: What do you think mean "OTHER people"...I consistently vote to raise the taxes I and others like me pay. I'm not sure I've ever voted to raise taxes or cut entitlements for families earning less than median family income. Have you?
By Fore1gnBornHBgrown (8265), HAMPTON BAYS on Dec 22, 17 3:26 PM
Related but mostly because that failure to repair our deficit from the healthcare entitlements disfunction -- the real question is what percentage of the tax funding for the $100 million Town of Southampton budget is now at risk. What percentage of our tax receipts are from households hit with the new tax plan, i.e. paying more than $10,000 a year in New York State and property taxes? Alot, maybe more than 50% -- and an ever rising Town budget with lower tax receipts from lower property values ...more
By dfree (818), hampton bays on Dec 23, 17 2:06 PM
why in the world do you vote in favor of the government confiscating MORE of your money? The waste , fraud and downright foolish spending is out of control and needs to be reigned in , not expanded.
By bigfresh (4666), north sea on Dec 23, 17 3:58 PM
Are you actually curious, or acting incredulous for effect?
By Fore1gnBornHBgrown (8265), HAMPTON BAYS on Dec 23, 17 4:36 PM
I am flabbergasted that anyone would want to pay more in taxes, please explain your rationale, thanks
By bigfresh (4666), north sea on Dec 23, 17 5:24 PM
It's a question that requires context, as my position is not a blanket pro-tax stance, but a recognition that government funded public services fill a need not met by private business or citizens.
By Fore1gnBornHBgrown (8265), HAMPTON BAYS on Dec 23, 17 5:44 PM

I think it comes down to what you consider a "need" and what the end-goal of that spending is. Some people want a barebones government that, but I want my elected officials to be driven by more than utilitarian motives or an intention to kick the can down the road.
