Democratic Party Nominates Julie Lofstad To Run For Town Board

Dec 7, 2015 4:57 PM

Julie Lofstad was nominated by the Democratic Party to run for Councilman Brad Bender's seat on the Southampton Town Board in a special election on January 26, according to Gordon Herr, the chairman for the Democratic Party.

The election was set by town officials to replace Mr. Bender, who resigned in late November after his arrest on federal drug distribution charges.

Ms. Lofstad, a Hampton Bays resident, ran for Town Board in the November elections. She previously said she was seeking a seat on the board because she wanted to address quality-of-life and water quality issues in the town.

Ms. Lofstad lost the race to Republican incumbent Christine P. Scalera and Democrat John Bouvier in November.

And what is her stance on prescription drug use...?
By Nature (2966), Southampton on Dec 6, 15 8:14 PM
If prescribed by a doctor for legitimate purposes?

At this point, any response to that question would be helpful! Obviously I meant prescription drug ABuse, but I digress.

How about the Tuckahoe mall project change of zoning?

Good question. I'd like to know that too.

i hope she does her research because she had no clue about any issues in the town - She can not hide behind her team this time! But hey if anyone needs a play ground built she is your girl !

Ms. Lofstad is an energetic, positive politician and an honorable citizen. I believe she will protect our special town. I will be voting for her and would encourage everyone else to do the same.

Go Julie!

Ms. Lofstad may be energetic and positive but she is decisively incapable. As we do not know who the republicans will put up, before casting your votes give some thought to qualifications and experience. Ask yourself do I have faith that this person will capably represent me. Not just present themselves pleasantly but really fight for you and your beliefs. Ms. Lofstad, a Democrat, should have been more rigorously vetted the first time as she proved herself to be completely without a clue on the ...more

Lets see a couple of debates against the yet to be announced republican. I am independent and will wait to see both sides.

Isn't it time to elect someone to the Town Board that doesn't have an agenda of their own!

Isn't it time to choose someone with brains and integrity!

Someone whose resume shows that she has accomplished success in her business career and has been involved in activities - donating her time to advance the community that she grew up in & lives with her family in! A community that her family has been part of for over 100 years.

Haven't we had enough of politicians that ...more

The recent past in Southampton Town has been an era of strife, armed guards to limit debate, questionable attempts at end runs around process, a seeming total failure to consider the voters wishes, and then the debacle of a Board Member resigning in disgrace.

It's time to vote for integrity and confidence that our elected officials will not have a questionable agenda.

Julie Lofstad represents that opportunity.

Anna Throne Holst has been the one to add armed guards and has been in charge over the last six years of that strife. Julie is running with them. How can we expect any different of Julie if she throws herself in with those people?
By CleanWaters (80), Southampton on Dec 8, 15 1:10 PM
Julie Lofstad is an excellent choice for Town Council, for all the reasons that people have stated above. At present our Council has members from other government positions, the business community and the legal profession, as it always has, but we've also usually made room for local people who have come up through grassroots organizations like the PTA and civic associations. This gives the Council a good balance, and Julie Lofstad is that person right now. We don't have anyone quite like her ...more

Turkey AKA George Lynch thinks Julie is a great choice.... Then i know not to vote for her now! George thought Brad was a great choice - go back and look at his 1,327 posts - what a joke!
By farmlocal (83), Southampton on Dec 8, 15 12:51 PM
I'm really scared by this choice. Didn't the Southampton Press before the last election say she was seemingly stumped and had a shallow grasp about issues outside her hamlet? That was in the Oct. 28th paper just before the last election. And I watched those debates. She was not good. How can we expect her to fight for the environment when our own press says she doesn't get it?
By CleanWaters (80), Southampton on Dec 8, 15 1:06 PM
She was awful at the debates. All she did was spew the garbage that Schneiderman fed her. We already had a follower in Brad don't need another push around.

Every election is a comparison between individuals. All our comments about Julie Lofstad above, mine included, were made in a vacuum because the Republicans hadn't selected a candidate yet. Now they have -- Richard Yastrzemski, Deputy Mayor of Southampton Village and losing candidate for Supervisor a few weeks ago. Now we can compare.

Mr. Yastrzemski, in his years as an elected official in Southampton Village, has overseen a series of ruinous tax increases and even more ruinous beach ...more

Turkey Bridge didn't Jay Schneiderman propose an increase to the Sales Tax at the County two days after we all voted for him? I don't like when candidates tell us one thing and do the exact opposite right after they get our vote. If this Julie person is anything like him or that Brad Bender I don't want her.
