Cops: East Quogue Pair Nabbed For Stealing 30 Candy Bars

Aug 13, 2012 4:45 PM

Two East Quogue residents were arrested last week after Southampton Town Police said they acted in concert to steal dozens of candy bars from a Riverside gas station.

Jason M. Ploikoff, 29, was caught by a store clerk at the Shell gas station near the Riverside traffic circle on Tuesday night, August 7, swiping the sweets, and Samantha C. Van Nostrand, 21, tried to distract the clerk while Mr. Ploikoff stuffed his pockets with more than 30 candy bars, police said.

The pair then fled the area in a vehicle, but were subsequently arrested at about 10:10 p.m. in Quogue.

Mr. Ploikoff and Ms. Van Nostrand were each charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

They were processed and released on $150 police bail.

Glad the police released the names of these criminals and not people who murder people with their cars.

Thank God the candy monsters were caught at last! It appears they were responsible for several daylight thefts on the east end of candy bars. It is alledged they would trade the candy for cocanecandy to feed their habits.
Police estimate the candy had a street value $18.67 and could have been traded for about eighty cents worth of drugs

The diversionary tactics employed by Samantha were recognized as those used in the typical Shell game.

This is out of control my neighbors wife just got back from Stop and shop in H.B. around 8 PM tonight, where she witnessed 6 people being questioned by police and some seem to have been arrested for shop lifting. The manager told her since the motel on West Tiana changed to a welfair home the store as been inundated each night with what he said were animals with no respect for the surrounding customers, Thanks again Town Board!
