Investigators recently seized a vehicle from the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in connection with the investigation of a fatal hit-and-run on County Road 39 in Southampton on April 5.
Southampton Town investigators have refused to provide information about the ongoing investigation, but sources confirmed Thursday that a Jeep was taken from the reservation in the days following the death of 63-year-old Joseph Lynn McAlla of Clifford, Pennsylvania. A truck driver, he was preparing to make a delivery to Southampton Masonry when he got out of his truck at 2:30 a.m. and was struck by an eastbound vehicle and killed. The driver fled the scene.
On Wednesday morning, Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph said she could not discuss the investigation.
There are still no arrests in the case, and police have so far released no official information about the type of vehicle involved in the crash, how fast it was going at the time of the accident, or any other information related to the incident or any suspects, fearing it could hinder the investigation.
The accident closed the roadway for more than five hours on April 5.
The alleged driver who killed Sister Jackie in 2012 was able to escape to South America, as the public cried out for his ID and photo. In an editorial The Press called that botched investigation a miscarriage of justice.
Are we facing ...more a similar SNAFU here?
Couldn't the new Town PD Chief at least explain WHY they have not asked for the public's help?
Bewildering . . .
