Liam Blackmore, 13, accomplished a feat most golfers never get to accomplish in a lifetime.

In a casual match with his uncle, Denis Cawley, against his brother Jack and father Declan on July 5 at Southampton Golf Course, Liam dropped a hole-in-one, his first ever, at the second hole. The teenager couldn’t believe what had happened, let alone that it was his own ball.

Declan Blackmore was extremely proud of his son.

“I’ve never done it, his brother has never done it, most of the members here have never done it. So, at 13 years of age, it’s pretty incredible,” he said.

The foursome, according to Mr. Blackmore and his son Liam, went wild on the course.

“I kind of saw it drop in, but I was kind of in awe. So my brother was like, ‘Hole in one!’ and I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ Then my uncle gave me a high five, and he was like, ‘Oh, my god!’ because he’s never had one before,” Liam explained.

Using his 9-iron, Liam’s shot traveled 110 yards to the green, where it dropped about 3 feet to the right of the flag. It bounced, then rolled to the left, and into the hole.

Liam shot a group-low 77, and combined with his uncle’s 94, the pair defeated Jack (86) and Declan (92), who combined for a 178.

“He was on fire that day,” Declan Blackmore said of his son, Liam. “Sometimes, in golf, you have a day where you don’t miss. This was that day for Liam.”

Liam is passionate about the game and looks for every opportunity possible to play.

“If we have a ride, we’ll definitely play. I do the clinic on Saturdays and on Tuesdays, too,” he said.

Liam’s brother Jack, 15, plays competitively also. While on Southampton High School’s varsity golf team last fall, Jack finished 22nd in Suffolk County. Liam is entering the eighth grade at Southampton Intermediate School this September. Last season, he made the third seed of the junior varsity golf team.
