'The Daily Show With Trevor Noah' Films Segment About Shinnecock Billboards

Aug 8, 2019 3:47 PM

The Shinnecock Indian Nation had special company on Wednesday, when cast and crew from “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” filmed a segment about the Nation’s billboards along Sunrise Highway for the show.

“Daily Show” correspondent Michael Kosta made an appearance both on the electronic screen and in person, accompanied by Tribal Council Chairman Bryan Polite and other Shinnecock members.

The on-screen display read, “Relax, and enjoy your stolen land. Brought to you by Michael Kosta.”

The comedy segment is set to air in September, according to a Facebook post from Mr. Polite.

“Big thank you to Trevor Noah, Michael Kosta, and the production crew of the Daily Show for bringing attention through comedy to a very important issue for the Shinnecock Nation,” Mr. Polite wrote in the post, which has already received a lot of attention and shares in less than 24 hours.

The best part about this is that it's primarily been the leftists here whining about the billboard and "boycotting" it's advertisers.

Now you have a major left wing ideological leader, as usual in the form of a comedian, shaming the lot of you for living on "stolen land".

So the question for the libs is will you continue shamefully living on the backs of other's via your racism and Hampton's privilege, or will you have the courage to do the right thing, and hand over the keys of ...more

LOL, if not he, then who? Rachel Maddow? AOC? Beto?

As I said, whichever leftist leader you turn to, they routinely take the form of comedians.

Now, are you going to admit your guilt in the continuing crime of benefiting from stolen land, or do you prefer only pointing at the wrongdoing of others?

Do you think you're not guilty and obligated to take action for the crimes against the tribe you've participated in because you're so enlightened?

I thought the opinion of liberals on this board was pretty split regarding the billboards.

For example, I know HHS was strongly opposed but I personally couldn't care less.

Also, Trevor Noah is a paid entertainer; he is not a democrat and he hasn't been elected or ran for anything. For those reasons, he doesn't represent anyone but himself.

He is also not a U.S. citizen, nor is he a green card holder, so I personally don't care about his political opinion.

Non-citizens? No. What their opinions are on abortion or climate change, for example, doesn't affect my empathy for them.

Please welcome our dear leader The Donald when he drives through the long lost Indian homeland. An appropriate message on the billboards on rt27 will make him happy as im sure it would get plenty coverage.

The billboard has undoubtedly increased business exponentially for the advertisers. The reverence the Shinnecock Nation holds for their lands is evident in the pride they take in clear cutting for billboards and double-wide tobacco shops and the State DMV and other authorities have been extremely effective in working to make site is all up to code and safe. Now, we’e a laughingstock.

What’s the problem?
By even flow (1023), East Hampton on Aug 9, 19 7:18 AM
First of all the DMV has nothing to do with this matter. It’s NYDOT that is going forth with legal action. If they are pursuing legal action that means there is a very good chance they are not up to code and don’t comply with highway safely standards. That’s really what the issue comes down to. Whether they are safe not that they are an eyesore.

Indigenous peoples including the Shinnecocks have been treated terribly for centuries AND the giant screen billboard is hideously ugly as it sucks down electricity while spewing light pollution.

Anybody want to chip in for a "Hillary 2020" ad for when Trump drives by?
By bird (829), Sag Harbor on Aug 9, 19 11:00 AM
Seriously you want Hillary to run in 2020. Two failed campaigns aren't enough? If you put Hillary 2020 on the billboard, Trump would have his motorcade stop, take a picture of it with him in it and post it to his Twitter account with some sarcastic comment like "The Russians are Coming...PART DEUX!"
