Sep 10, 2019 2:40 PM

Southampton Town Police arrested a Riverside man who they said robbed a store in Riverside last week and fled the scene.

Police said Jose Escalante-Chacon, 26, walked into Marta’s Deli on Riverleigh Avenue, just down the street from the State Police barracks, on Thursday, September 5, and threatened the store clerk with what appeared to be a firearm.

Mr. Escalante-Chacon then fled the scene, police said, and was located by State Police a short time later.

State Police turned Mr. Escalante-Chacon over to Southampton Town Police, who identified him and processed him at their headquarters in Hampton Bays.

Mr. Escalante-Chacon faces charges of first-degree robbery, a felony, and second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor. He was held overnight at Town Police headquarters and was scheduled for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays.
