Twenty dogs from the Hurricane Dorian devastated Bahamas on Thursday, September 12 were flown into Gabreski Airport and met by the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF). Fourteen of the dogs went to ARF, Kent Animal Shelter took four and Jake's Rescue Ranch took two. The dogs were flown from Florida by members of the Pittsburgh-based Pittsburgh Aviation Animal Rescue Team (PAART). The dogs from the Bahamas are referred to as Potcakes. a potcake dog is a mixed-breed dog type found on several Caribbean islands. Most seem to be lab and shepherd mixes. The dogs at ARF range in age from six- months to 10-years-old. Most appear to be between 1 and 3 years.

The dogs taken to ARF will be medically cleared by veterinarians before being available for adoption. The process usually takes about 2 weeks. Once available you can find them here: https://arfhamptons.org/adoptions/view-our-pets/#. DANA SHAW AND KYRIL BROMLEY PHOTOS
