Hampton Bays Man Arrested In Pennsylvania, Charged With More Than 30 Offenses

Oct 21, 2015 1:01 PM

A Hampton Bays man was arrested in Pennsylvania this week and charged with more than 30 offenses, including felony charges of rape, strangulation and coercion.

Justin Suarez, 27, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on Monday in Tobyhanna, an incorporated community in Coolbaugh Town, located in the Poconos. According to a statement from the U.S. Marshals Service, the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force had alerted the Pennsylvania task force that Mr. Suarez had fled New York and was possibly in that area of the state.

The Southampton Town Police Department had issued a warrant for Mr. Suarez’s arrest on October 9, charging him with more than 30 offenses that he committed in its jurisdiction, including felony charges of second-degree strangulation, third-degree rape and first-degree coercion. He was also charged with first-degree harassment and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both misdemeanors, as well as other “less violent offenses,” the statement said.

On Tuesday, Town Police Lieutenant Susan Ralph said Mr. Suarez was being extradited back to the South Fork, although she was unsure of when that would happen.

Lt. Ralph declined to share any additional information about when the crimes took place and how authorities came to charge Mr. Suarez.

In November 2012, a Justin J. Suarez, who was 24 at the time, and another man were arrested at the Quogue East Pub in East Quogue after they attacked another patron, according to authorities. Both Mr. Suarez and his accomplice were charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor, after they attacked a man by smashing a beer bottle over his head and striking him with a pool stick, authorities said.

Police did not immediately confirm if it was the same Mr. Suarez who they have been looking for since October 9.

In addition to the Southampton Town Police Department, the U.S. Marshals Service worked in conjunction with Pennsylvania State Police, the Scranton Police Department and the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department to make the arrest.

In the statement, U.S. Marshal Martin Pane said: “Our society must not tolerate such violence and should be committed to ensuring that dangerous fugitives are brought before the court. We are committed to ensuring this and it is my sincere hope this arrest brings the victim some sense of comfort knowing the alleged attacker is now in custody.”

Why is he described as a "Hampton Bays man?" I am fairly certain he is not "from" Hampton Bays.

Thank you Police and US Marshalls - Good job for finding and catching this creep wherever he is from. Rape! Strangling - weapons charges - smashing beer bottles and pool cues over someone's head. Only place you want to say this violent man is from is JAIL.

Indeed. If you just deport him, he's sure to be back soon.
