New immigration coalition to hold forum

Mar 3, 2009 7:20 PM

A forum aiming to address issues surrounding immigration on the East End and its impact will be held Friday, March 13, at the Southampton Senior Center in Hampton Bays at 6 p.m.

The symposium is sponsored by U.S. Representative Tim Bishop, New York State Assemblyman Fred Thiele and Southampton Town Councilwoman Anna Throne-Holst.

Dubbed “Immigration in the Hamptons: Beginning a Community Dialogue,” the discussion is the first planned by the new coalition of elected officials that will explore the various ways immigration affects the East End community, with the hopes of starting fresh debate on the hot topic, according to a press release from Mr. Bishop’s office.

“This coalition is a proactive effort to bring issues into the light, have a rational discussion of the impact of immigration on our community, and ultimately bring people together,” the congressman stated in the press release. “It is important for elected leaders to lead a constructive dialogue.”

Those wishing to attend the forum should contact Mr. Thiele’s office at (631) 537-2583.
