Southampton Town Police on Wednesday released the description of a man who fled the scene of a double stabbing that occurred at a Hampton Bays bar early Saturday morning.
Two patrons of the Beach Bar on Foster Avenue were stabbed with “some type of knife or blade” during an altercation involving several patrons that started inside the bar and continued outside after the brawlers were escorted out by bar security staff, Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa said.
Officers were called to the scene at 2:21 a.m., where they found two men in their 30s, both from the Mastic-Shirley area, suffering from non-life-threatening stab and slash wounds to their arms and heads.
Police said between five and seven people fled the scene after the incident and, on Wednesday morning, they described one as a dark-haired Hispanic man, about 30 years of age. They said he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighed about 240 pounds, and noted that he wearing an orange or reddish shirt and a silver-colored cross hanging on a cable containing clear studs around his neck.
The Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance treated the stabbing victims at the scene before transporting them to Southampton Hospital. One was released the same day and the other was listed as stable, but required surgery.
Police said it is unclear what started the fight.
New York State Police and the Riverhead Town Police K-9 unit assisted in a search for the suspects on Saturday, but to no avail.
Town Police have asked anyone with information to call 702-2240.
Or aren't you up on your recent history of the hamlet?
In fairness, you're making an assumption that what you're terming "a deadly weapon" was in this instance, a knife or a bayonet -- could just as easily have been a Bic pen or a broken bottle.
> "innocent people just out for a night of fun"
Nothing like this is even remotely suggested by the most recent update (10:11 AM).
In respect to making "an asinine generalization about Hampton Bays," perhaps you don't remember:
1.- Carl Petrusa, shot to death outside a club in HAMPTON BAYS less than two years ago;
2.- the 2009 stabbing death of Calvin Butts outside the HAMPTON BAYS Diner;
3.- another ...more man, an employee, who tried to attack a fellow worker with a knife at the HAMPTON BAYS Diner in June of last year;
And that's just in recent memory.
Understanding the wisdom due to it's (history's) record of daily life?
You wanna hear somethin' kinda' odd? But, sort of funny?
Sometime, somewhere there was a schmuck just like you. And, You need to subtract roughly 20 sextillion dollars to get back to exchanging peanuts using our tongues whilst avoiding predator cats.
Weapons in a place of relaxation.
How primitive.
I've been a member for over three years. You've been here what, nine months? When I'm refurbishing an old computer (which can take a GOOD bit of time), or working for Google, I get a little bored now and then. Pardon me for having a love of healthy debate, writing, and a disdain for ignorance.
the box cutter bar brawl at 75 main
the Featherstones glass throwing comedy night
the cigar bar mega brawl
the flying point stabbing
UConn's Kendall Madison killed at an East Hampton night spot
the westhampton steakhouse supposed slashing & gunshot
bowling alley throw downs, crowd control at the polish hall,
numerous CPI bottle bashings...
so on and so forth.
this has been going on since before the old Marakesh shane ...more daniels assault, which was dished out by 2 off duty NYC police officers!! Protect and serve (except when vacationing in the Hamptons)
i have personally seen dozens of violent assaults over the years and don't bother 'going out' much anymore.
You don't have to be involved to be a victim.
Compliment noted, and duly appreciated!!
Nice shirt - check.
Wallet - check.
Cell phone - check.
Knife - check.
Ok - ready for a night out.
What's the appropriate weapon for dinner at Starr Boggs? I don't want to be outgunned.
Well, you had a nice roller-skating rink AND a Go-Kart track back in the 70s and 80s, and they weren't pushed out by bars. Did you support them then? My parents did, taking me to the Go-Karts one summer.
Oh, and I see this story hasn't been updated with additional information, so what news do you have that "drunken knife wielding thugs" were involved?
So instead of getting defensive about Hampton Bays and lashing out with a "so's your old man" reply, try sticking to what's happening ...more in the 11946 zip code.
For the record, I enjoy going to your hamlet: the restaurants are most reasonably-priced (although there's a Chinese place that's a little pricy) and it's the easiest-to-get-to multiplex movies.
But based on recent events I don't like to have my sons bar-hopping there.
And this story STILL hasn't updated over the past three days, so we don't have any better idea of who did what and to whom; what were the precipitating events, and what was used in the assault, a broken beer bottle, a Bic pen, or a Bowie knife?
Doesn't excuse the violence, or the choice of venue; but I understand...
