Protesters Against Illegal Immigration Gather In Southampton On Tuesday

May 21, 2013 4:56 PM
Members of the Suffolk County Coalition for Legal Immigration/No Amnesty and Citizens Forum, the East End Tea Party, and the 9/12 Project protested an immigration bill outside of U.S. Representative Tim Bishop’s office in Southampton Village on Tuesday morning.

According to Linda Edwards, the organizer of the gathering in Southampton, the demonstration was to show the protesters’ displeasure with an immigration reform bill that is currently in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee that would legalize some undocumented immigrants

“Every time we turn around, illegal immigrants are getting benefits,” she said. “We are in trouble on the East End. It’s all about saving our country for our children.”

These people are NOT leaving. Most are here to make a living for their family which would take nothing short of a fire line to deter. If you are upset by these people using the system are you also upset by the millions of legal citizens that take advantage of the system everyday for their entire lives? I would argue that it is the SYSTEM that is broken; these people are not the problem. Unless you are living on the res your ancestors were immigrants too and these immigrants should be given the ...more

Firing line... Hmmm, sounds like you may be on to something!

We have used force in their countries to support corporate interests and to install brutal dictatorships. Yet, we cringe at the idea of a shoot on sight policy to secure our borders and national sovereignty. The risk has to out weigh the reward to cross our borders illegally. We have done it in Iraq and Afghanistan and those aren't our borders to secure.

So you will volunteer to set up a sniper post and blow the brains out of 12 year olds as they cross the boarder?

You're a blank all right

So you advocate taking human lives because they crossed the border, loading....?

Sniper post, please. I was thinking drones armed with Hellfire Missles!
Take some time and read about the history of the Town of Southampton, people immigrating to the community had to prove their worth to the community to be considered "freemen" and being granted permission to stay. They didn't achieve this by arriving with their hands out and burdening others in the community, as the most recent wave of illegals has done.

It has nothing to do with the history of the Town of Southampton. Nor does it have anything to do with Iraq/Afghanistan.
Reality is there are 12-15 million undocumented aliens/illegals or whatever you want to call them. They are here, and the bus is NOT coming to pick them up Saturday, like it or not. Both national parties allowed this to happen because each in their own way benefit from their being here.
But really, you think it is legitimate to kill them as they cross?
By But I'm a blank! (1283), Hampton Bays on May 22, 13 10:16 PM
The process to immigrate (legally) has change DRAMATICALLY since your grandfathers' time. There's a Big BIG difference. If the laws were then what they are now he would probably be an "illegal" too.
By Moneybogue (37), Westhampton Beach on May 23, 13 12:09 AM
Legitimate to kill as they cross, yes. I think it would take a very short time to stem the flow. As things are currently there is no deterrent, I think death is a powerful deterrent.

Once again you are wrong, that was a response to your continual gun death count post Sandy Hook. Do you get so emotional and irrational that you honestly believe what you type or are you just making attempts at misrepresenting others? We don't agree on many issues, but that shouldn't open the door for libel...

There have now been 242 deaths from guns since the Sandy Hook shootings on December 14th.

Hmmm, strange that my comment got taken down. So much for free speech, eh, 27east? 2nd try:

These people know that Americans are the ones hiring the illegal immigrants, right? It's called capitalism-- profit above all else.

My own father came here, learned English, and became a naturalized citizen.

That being said, I say it's a slap in the face to all those who "did it right" to give these persons amnesty. It didn't work in the '80's, and it won't work now. All it will do is encourage more of the same malfeasant behavior.

Stop the freebies and hiring off-the-books.

It's a Red Letter Day!

On the comments section of 27 East, it's inevitable that EVERY single news story, no matter how diverse or far flung the subject matter, ends up with heated arguments about illegal immigration. If there was an article about a potato sack race, the predictable comments would ballistically political.

Well here's everyone's chance to finally stay on topic :)

I'm for providing illegal immigrants amnesty and tax forgiveness as long as it applies equally to every American citizen as well, especially to those who cheat our government and country out of tax dollars. The illegal alien's crime is minor, however, the person that hire's them is the real criminal, and those who hire companies that employ undocumented workers, turning a blind eye to it, and not exercising due diligence are the worst breed of Americans and should be deemed traitors for denying ...more
