
Supporters of Latino laborers who gather at the 7-Eleven convenience store in Southampton mounted a brief counter-protest on Friday morning to a pair of men who post themselves in the store’s driveway on most mornings holding signs calling for the deportation of illegal immigrants.
Approximately 15 to 20 Latino men and women and their supporters crowded onto the small concrete island in the middle of the store’s entrance from County Road 39, the usual spot of illegal immigration protesters Tom Wedell and George John Overbeck, holding signs of their own. One of the signs read: “You get paid to hate. We get paid to work,” a reference to Mr. Wedell’s compensation from an up-Island anti-immigration group for the time he spends at the 7-Eleven.
Southampton town and village police officers were called to the scene when Mr. Wedell and Mr. Overbeck and some of the Latino protesters got into shouting matches, but police did not interfere in either group’s protest. After about an hour, the Latino protesters withdrew, leaving Mr. Wedell and Mr. Overbeck at their usual post.
“I’m still here,” Mr. Overbeck could be heard shouting to the group of laborers lingering at the opposite end of the store’s parking lot, a short time later.
“Why don’t you get a job and go to work like I do every day,” a woman shouted in response as she pulled out of the parking lot in a pickup truck bearing the emblem of a local landscaping company.

Why are they being allowed to continue this distraction to passing motorists?

Deportation by sea was ended after seven deportees jumped overboard from the Mercurio and drowned, provoking a mutiny that led to a public outcry in Mexico."
Between government agencies, the Reserves, and the National Guard, we could send them packing. Don't doubt that.
It is a question of what we CHOOSE to do about it. Look like the "nice guy" to the world, and keep letting them walk all over us and our system, OR send a clear and strong message that the violation of our soveriegnty will NOT be tolerated.

Freedom to make ones opinions heard does not go one way. Some people wanted the two men to be stopped from protesting. Others didn't ...more want the counter protesters there. Neither position is correct. If you are upset by the counter protests, then you have the right to go out and make your position clear. That is freedom.
But the basics, were applied by the Supreme Court due to the abuses of the Chinese immigrants in the post Civil War Era, especially by railroad robber barons.

Had you actually read ANY of the Supreme Court decisions regarding illegal immigration, you would know that they are not only subject to our laws while on American soil (no diplomatic immunity here), they do have basic rights and privileges as living beings, existing under the authority of a "living document". They are EQUALLY bound by the law. Equality, a principle this country was founded upon. The problem we have is, had he not broken the law further, and gotten caught, he would still be here. Illegals have rights, and he was granted due process, then convicted under them.

My stance is that I am a child of a LEGAL immigrant, and your tile man, and his wife's presence here is a direct slap in the face to all those like my father who legally abided by, and respected this country's laws to be here.

Just because they're illegal doesn't mean they shouldn't be respected? How about them respecting our laws and our country, before they're granted what they do not show us.
The problem is an epidemic, anyone here look at the percentage of their taxes going to their school district? For this reason, national and international news organizations have changed their style policy to be more accurate. They now use "undocumented" because it is more accurate than "illegal." By the way, federal immigration officials ...more do the same.
I imagine some thick-headed folks won't care about factual accuracy because referring to undocumented workers as "illegals" better fits with their efforts to demonize them.
However, in common vernacular the meaning of the word "criminal" can be "shameful, or disgraceful". Under that auspice regarding behavior, the word is applicable.

My opinion is that "undocumented" simply sugarcoats the issue, so extremist, bleeding heart liberals feel better inside. They don't belong here, BUH-BYE. Heck, I didn't win the Mega Millions last time around. You don't see me hacking the lottery's bank accounts, DO YOU?

If you go to realclearpolitics.com, you will find that four polls have Obama ahead (by as much as 8%); three have Romney ahead (by as much as 4%); and one has them tied. The average result was a 1.4% lead by Obama.
Back in October, 2011, Romney ...more was ahead of Obama by 46.1% to 45.6% in the poll averages, a feat that he has never equaled in subsequent polls.
What does this all mean? Not much, other than the fact that neither candidate is likely to win by a landslide.
