Brawl Erupts At 75 Main, Police Looking For Instigators

Dec 5, 2012 11:23 AM

A large fight broke out in a crowd of more than 200 people at the restaurant 75 Main in Southampton Village on Sunday morning, November 25.

According to Southampton Village Police, who received a call at 3:05 a.m., the brawl began inside the restaurant and spilled out onto Main Street, where people continued fighting.

“There were several fights,” said Detective Sergeant Herman Lamison. “That’s what made it a difficult thing to contain and handle.”

Several people who had attended an 18-and-over event at the restaurant were transported to Southampton Hospital by Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance and by friends for medical treatment, although no serious injuries were reported, police said.

Southampton Town Police also were called in to assist in dispersing the crowd.

The owner of 75 Main, Zach Erdem, said he was not at the restaurant when the fight broke out. He said he would not host any future 18-and-over events for the same organizers, who he declined to identify.

Det. Sgt. Lamison said he could not discuss the matter further, as the incident is still under investigation by detectives. He asked that anyone with information about the brawl call detectives at 283-0056.

Although 75 Main is primarily a restaurant, it often doubles as a nightclub. It operates as a preexisting, nonconforming use under village code, meaning that 75 Main was in operation before zoning was changed to prohibit nightclubs in 1973.

Oh dear...I do hope they send the bill to the owners of the club. If they had to pay for these fights they might not be so inclined to sponsor these events. 200 plus people? What's the capacity for the place? Fines are certainly in order. Which was the security company employed for the event and how was this allowed to get out of control?

Whenever I read news articles about mob brawls in bars, the first thought that always occurs to me is, "Where these folks Mormons?" Does anyone know? The Press will never tell.

Oh! For the days when Mr. Todd ran that place. Any problems and his German shepherd "Mitzie" would come over with a growl and that was that.

There have been enough problems at 75 Main that the village cops should put a complaint to the State Liquor Dept. This place is nothing but fights at night. The other problem is 230 Elm which is now a full blown bar and night club. But that won't be closed because the owner is Tim Bishops brother in Law. Whoops did I just say that?

Have there been other incidents at 230 Elm besides the one involving tear gas being sprayed by police at people trying to leave the facility? Why is 230 Elm more of a problem than Madam Tongs (is it still called that) or Savanah's? Just asking, I'm not local anymore all I know is what's reported in the press. Have there been many public disturbances at 230 Elm? I mean from what my friends have told me the bar and night club you refer to, is more like a lounge, drinks, live music, open mic night, ...more

They need to stop 18 and over events. I was a bouncer in my 20's and whenever we had an 18 and over night, there were always many more fights than when we were 21 and over. These kids get in a bar environment and don't know how to act!

All you "shut everything down" people need to get out of Dodge... Enough of this town shuts down for the season, we don't need anymore seasonal businesses. 75 Main has been around longer than you have, and it will be around longer than you as well.
If a place got shutdown every time there was a problem, we'd have nothing left...

And 230 Elm is one of the best places around here.. The man who runs it is an honest gentleman, that even makes use of the space upstairs that has been empty for years.... If you actually ever left your house to go anywhere, you might actually enjoy these places too.
The food at 75 Main isn't that bad either...

I have actaully been to both "clubs" if thats what you want to call them and they are the most unclassiest places I've ever been. I for one do not enjoy spending my time with a bunch of barely clothed "girls" and very immature "boys"! Its time for someone to open a place thats 25 and older cuz its only a matter of time before someone REALLY gets hurt!!!

I am not the best at spelling or grammar, but what what the hell school did you go to? You have totally taken the english language to new lows.
I actually think that 75 Main has good food and is a good place for dinner or lunch. Why anyone thinks having a Hip Hop bar in the middle of the night is good for the village I will never know. This place is nothing but trouble when it turns into a club. The village doesn't need nite clubs.........period

Nothing wrong with club. Its the new American Gangster, Thug, HIP-Hop culture. The same type of culture and mentality promoted by Obama to secure his re-election. We are being taken over by an illiterate society!

Could you give specifics on how it is that President Obama promoted the New American Gangster, Thug, Hip-Hop Culture and that promotion of this culture led to his re-election?

Your comment is so ignorant Obama has nothng to do with how people decide to act. Fights happen everywhere involving anybody not just the hip hop culture.

Why do we have 18 and over? Its 21 to drink. Why let younger ones in? On the other hand ..I was young and wanted to go out dancing and partying when I was that age and younger..Its what kids do! Try to enforce the drinking age and it may be helpful to bars ..but hey a fake ID and a 50 dollar bill is a "valied customer"! Thats said, the behavior in these bars is so immature and mightly entitled..local or not..everyone has an attitude at these late nite places..Close it down ant 2 and bouncers do ...more
