Southampton Hospital Employee Wins $20 Million Jackpot

Apr 8, 2014 4:34 PM

A Southampton Hospital employee made his routine stop at a convenience store near his Shirley home one morning last week, but what happened next was anything but usual.

The employee—whose name remained unconfirmed earlier this week—scanned his Mega Millions lottery tickets at the Jackspot! convenience store off the William Floyd Parkway and, according to store co-owner Howie Frank, could not believe his eyes when the register screen told him he was holding a winning $20 million ticket.

“He comes in every morning for a coffee and a buttered roll,” Mr. Frank said about the winner, who was identified only as Cameron in a photo on the store’s Facebook page that shows him posing with Mr. Frank near the store’s “Winner’s Circle.”

“Just a nice guy,” Mr. Frank continued.

Lee Park, a spokesman for the New York State Lottery, confirmed Friday that someone had come forward with the sole winning ticket to claim the $20 million prize a few days prior, though he said the winner’s name would not be released until the lottery held a news conference. The conference had not been scheduled as of earlier this week.

Southampton Hospital officials, meanwhile, said they could not confirm whether or not one of their employees had won the lottery.

The winner bought the ticket at Gascon, located off Old Country Road in Coram. The winning numbers for the March 25 drawing were 19, 26, 51, 57, 73, and the Mega Ball number was 15.

Mr. Frank described the winner was a “down-to-earth” guy who enjoys working at the hospital. He also noted that the winner was consulting with attorneys before publicly announcing his good fortune.

The winner’s euphoric reaction upon learning the news was captured on the store’s surveillance camera, according to Mr. Frank.

Fantastic! What a blessing. Please though find someone to help you manage your money to protect you and your family from all the pitfalls that can accompany suddenly receiving a huge amount of money.
