Springs Candidates To Speak

May 3, 2011 4:39 PM

The Group for Good Government will host a Springs School Board candidates forum at the school on Tuesday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. A similar forum
was held on Saturday at East Hampton High School for the East Hampton School
Board candidates. Arthur Malman, a co-chairman of the group, said on Tuesday that
the format might be altered somewhat to allow candidates to answer questions directly from the audience. The candidates for the two open board seats in Springs are Elizabeth Mendelman, Timothy Frazier, Phyllis Mallah, and Arthur Goldman.

It is just NOT right for a School Board candidate to be able to vote on pay issues and contracts when his or her spouse will benefit - that is the definition of a conflict of interest. If Goldman or Frazier are elected, and they don't recuse themselves from voting during the contract negotiations, I predict an ethics investigation and a lawsuit. How can they even be running?

I agree. That is definitely a conflict of interest.
