Longtime Wainscott resident Carlton Mason Strong Sr. dies at 82

Longtime Wainscott resident Carlton Mason Strong Sr. died on March 27 at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He was 82.

Born September 3, 1927 in Southampton to Gertrude (née Mason) and Stanley Strong, he lived for a short time in Wheatley Heights and worked as a maintenance supervisor and a farmer. A veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during World War II,
from 1945 to 1948, he was a member of Masonic Wamponamon Lodge No. 437 and the American Legion Chelberg & Battle Post No. 388, both in Sag Harbor.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria (née Graham) Strong of Wainscott; three sons, Carlton M. Strong of Sagaponack, Gary G. Strong of Norwich, New York, and Gregory T. Strong of Pennsylvania; a brother, Douglas Strong of North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and five nieces and nephews.

Services were held on March 31 at Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, followed by interment at Wainscott Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Yardley & Pino Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 3038, Bridgehampton, NY 11932-3038 or Wamponamon Lodge No. 437, 200 Main Street, Sag Harbor, NY 11963 would be appreciated by the family.
