SPCA Charges Westhampton Woman With Animal Cruelty

Aug 1, 2018 11:20 AM

A Westhampton woman was arrested on Tuesday and charged with two counts of animal cruelty after an investigation by the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals found her to be responsible for the death of her two chihuahuas.

Nicy Young, 58, was arrested at 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday at her condemned Patrick Street home in relation to a December incident, when the remains of two dogs were found in separate crates. They appeared to have starved to death, officials said.

At the time of the December incident, Ms. Young had called the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance after suffering from smoke inhalation from a fire caused by a space heater operating in the single-family home, which was at the time, her full-time residence. There were no utilities servicing the home and it was deemed uninhabitable by the Westhampton Beach Fire Marshal.

Months later, SPCA investigators determined that both dogs had died “quite some time” before the December incident, according to SPCA Chief Roy Gross.

“She was absolutely responsible for those dogs and they died from being severely emaciated and from lack of nutrition and starvation,” he said.

Mr. Gross said that Ms. Young was the owner of both dogs, but it was unclear how long the dogs were in her care.

Ms. Young was transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters on Tuesday and is scheduled to appear in Southampton Justice Court on Friday, August 24. She could face fines of up to $1,000 per dog, or up to a year in jail, Mr. Gross added.

“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated,” he said.

What a horrible person! Wish they would punish her and she would actually serve time. She's going to get a slap probably. I hope Karma kicks her teeth in!
