Firefighters Rescue Dog From Westhampton Home

Aug 22, 2018 10:20 AM

Westhampton Beach Firefighters rescued Kingsley, a small dog, from a two-story duplex on Stewart Avenue in Westhampton Beach after a minor fire broke out in one of the building’s kitchens on Sunday evening.

The family had already evacuated the home when the Westhampton Beach Fire Department responded to the scene shortly before 6 p.m.—just after hosting the department’s annual open house at the Sunset Avenue firehouse—but Kingsley was still inside the smoke-filled home.

Probationary firefighter Joe Madigan found the beloved family pet hiding under a bed in an upstairs bedroom and reunited him with his family.

After the flames were extinguished under the command of Chief Bill Dalton, fans were deployed to filter out the smoke that filled the home. No injuries were reported.

The department dispatched two engines, a ladder truck, a rescue truck and two fire police vehicles to the scene. The Southampton Town Police also responded to the call.

One neighbor, who did not disclose her name, said she heard it was a grease fire; however, the cause is still under investigation by the Southampton Town fire marshal’s office.
