Preparation For Road Widening Project On County Road 39 To Begin Shortly

Forget that area of CR 39 and widen the back roads instead. There are traffic jams on back roads in Water Mill, especially Head of Pond, Lower Seven Ponds, North sea Mecox Rd. Even in winter there are traffic jams on those roads from 2:45 pm until 5:30 pm.

" Jul 12, 12 11:35 AM

I remember when that shopping mall on 27 in Water Mill was proposed. The developer pretended he was going to put in something like 200 shops. The village and town then pretended that it was a great thing when the developer "scaled back" and proposed fewer shops. Then they did a pretend environmental impact study which concluded that the shopping mall would not adversely impact traffic in the area, and that a traffic light would not be needed. Thank goodness we have such geniuses in public office who are looking out for their constituents, or there MIGHT BE a huge traffic jam on 27 near those shops! (I'm pretending we dont have that traffic jam, just like the developer and the officials pretended.) " Jul 12, 12 11:39 AM

Searching For A Definitive Diagnostic Tool For Lyme

Why waste time and money? The Western Blot is fine.
Why are people so obsessed with Lyme disease, as if it's some kind of magical ogre? Pretty much my whole family, myself included, have had Lyme disease as have most friends and neighbors. Many of us have had babesiosis and ehrlichiosis as well. My cousin had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. These illnesses happen to be around us; we live in an endemic area. Take precautions and be alert for symptoms and take all of the medication the doctor prescribes for you.
It would be better to spend money looking for reliable (keyword:reliable) screening tools for cancers with a high mortality rate like ovarian cancer. " Jul 19, 12 11:56 AM

Police Say 30-Year-Old Hispanic Man Is Being Sought In Fatal Hit-And-Run; Name Still Not Released

"""Still trying to figure out how the police know this particular anonymous (as far as the public is concerned) Latino landscaper was behind the wheel. No witnesses at the scene. Car found abandoned the next day""""

He called his employer on his cellphone after the accident and told him about it. The police checked the cellphone tower and sure enough, it was right where the car was abandoned" Jul 19, 12 12:00 PM

UPDATE: Suffolk County Crime Stoppers Offers Up To $5,000 Reward For Information Leading To Arrest Of Hit-And-Run Suspect

If I wrote for the old Law and Oder tv series, here is how i would rip this story from the headlines :

A wealthy NYC man with connections and foreign employees gets a little drunk or high and gets involved in a fatal car accident in the Hamptons. He calls his house and has one of his employees pick him up after he ditches the car. He then offers the guy a large amount of money if he leaves the country while taking the blame for the accident. Then the man stalls on giving his employee's real name to the police until the employee has time to escape the country.
In the end, the case is solved by wisecracking NYPD detectives who make jokes about the local police force. Sam Waterson makes some kind of cynical remark about justice. The press has a field day. The mayor's office is somehow embarrassed, because it always gets embarrassed on Law and Order.

UPDATE: County Road 39 Reopens Six Hours After Crash

Sorry, 6 hours is outrageously long to keep a road closed. Especially when there aren't many, if any, alternative routes. And why does every person from every volunteer fire department for miles around need to respond? I have seen thirty cars/SUVs respond for one accident and thy stay at the site for hours.
I am saddened to hear someone died, but that person wasn't being treated for 6 hours at the scene of the accident. I know photographs and video of the scene need to be taken, but were they taking daguerreotypes of the accident scene for 6 hours?" Jul 24, 12 8:31 PM

How about actually getting some information before commenting and accusing other people of bitching and moaning? Speed was not a factor in this HEAD ON COLLISION. " Jul 25, 12 7:17 PM

Why was this collision treated as a crime scene? Can anyone answer that? Claims are being made that Suffolk County Crime Scene Unit was called in. " Jul 25, 12 7:22 PM

Head-On County Road 39 Crash Backs Up Traffic For More Than Six Hours

Sorry, I'm not buying that 6.5 hours were needed to evacuate a driver and do a cleanup. And why do I keep reading that this was a crime scene? This same police department withheld the name of a suspect in a fatal hit and run for a week, preventing the public from helping and possibly facilitating an escape from the area. And they treat a nonfatal car accident as a crime scene and keep people on the road for 4-6 hours in 80-90 degree heat? Without adequate police-led traffic diversion? What kind of priorities do they have? " Jul 26, 12 11:22 AM

UPDATE: Police Identify Victims In Fatal Crash On Sunday In East Hampton

Early this afternoon I was driving on Major's Path when a large truck veered into my lane. I kept calm turned to the right while slowing down, going off the road onto the grass and just as I was wondering, "Now what? I can only go into a tree if I veer off any more," the truck went back into its lane. It was thisclose. There were no joggers or bicycles in the truck's lane. I didnt see he driver, but he had to have been texting or calling someone. People don't just veer over into oncoming traffic for the heck of it. A week previously -- also on Major's Path -- a girl in a car veered briefly into my lane as I came around a curve. I could see her clearly and she had both hands atop her steering wheel, texting with her thumbs, squinting at her smartphone screen. " Jul 30, 12 11:49 PM

This is one of the top headlines on 27east.com and it is more than a week old. I thought there had been a new fatal crash. I'm not saying the story should be taken off the website, but taking it out of the top headline box might be warranted. There have been no new updates on this story." Aug 9, 12 4:42 PM

Gregg Saunders, Whole Foods Developer, Lost In East Hampton Crash

People want to know what the recent head on fatal accidents have in common. Young drivers. In nearly all, if not all of the accidents, it has been a young person who left their lane and ran head on into a car in the opposite lane. And not all of the young people are "cidiots." There have been locals involved.

I dislike the term "cidiot," since nearly every time I have been passed on a two lane road while doing at least 5 mph above the speed limit, or have nearly been killed when someone blows through a stop sign or red light, it is ALWAYS a pickup truck. Always. Winter, spring, summer or fall. I doubt many city people drive their pickup trucks out here. I have been passed on my own street by neighbors who absolutely have to go 25 mph over the speed limit so they can arrive in their driveway 5 seconds sooner than later. What should we call them? Locadopes? Residiots? Townitwits? (mostly, our family call these neighbors "drunks," since that is what they are. Smarmy, self-satisfied local drunks. )" Aug 18, 12 12:44 AM

East Hampton Town Board Looks Into Preservation Of Property Slated For Eight Homes

It's an old trick of developers to claim they want to build a ridiculously high number of houses/condos/shops so that they will look "reasonable" when they dial down the density.
People think "Phew!better 8 houses than 60 condos. Aren't we lucky?" when the developers knew all along they'd never get away with 60 units. The developer of the shops in Water Mill did this. Proposed a development containing 200 shops for a tiny hamlet and "allowed themselves" to be talked down. to 17 shops. They also got an environmental survey showing that there was no need for a traffic light near the shops in Water Mill on 27 and that traffic would not be adversely impacted.
Look how that turned out. " Sep 6, 12 4:49 PM

UPDATE: One Airlifted, Several Others Injured In Three-Vehicle Crash; Montauk Highway Reopens

What a bunch of Hysterical Hatties on this thread.

I love the Jitney. It keeps thousands of private cars off the road every summer. If you think traffic is bad now, why don't you get rid of the jitney and see how you like your hour-long one-way jaunt to the grocery store. See how you like traffic at a standstill from Scuttlehole Rd to David White's Lane twelve hours a day in the summer. See how you like a hundreds more texting drivers on the roads who would've been contained on a few buses, happily drinking their little waters and snacking on Party Mix. The jitney rarely gets into accidents, but the accident rate of private cars increases every year. So yeah, get rid of the jitney and dump a thousand or so more poorly-experienced drivers on the roadways.

God, there's just no stopping the complaining by some people. " Sep 9, 12 2:50 PM
