Public bathrooms on the way for Montauk beach

It is a good thing, and will be appreciated by the families that use this beach. But I will ALWAYS call it Nick's Beach, and to do so is NOT a deragatory reference. NICKS is a well-loved landmark in the community. NICK himself was great man, and his lovely CLAIRE has kept the place rocking and rolling, with great food and entertainment. I'm glad the beach folk will have much needed amenities and wish everyone a happy and safe Summer!" Mar 12, 09 7:18 PM

Code enforcement shuts down soup kitchen at Southampton Tire

I just can't believe the hatred and condemnation expressed by some of you. You live in a country where free speech is permitted - your opinions, while abhorrent to me are nonetheless allowed without fear of persecution by your government. These folks are doing what your ancestors did - coming to a new world to make a better life. I don't hear anyone asking the Shinnecocks how they feel about it -- I bet they'd share their food before any of you would -- and as a community they've endured ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS more than anyone else -- ONLY THEY WERE CALLED PILGRIMS BACK THEN!!! Shame on you stingy people, you have so much to learn. Kudos to the humane humans!!!!!" Apr 1, 09 9:38 PM

Shinnecock Indian Nation leaders split on casino path

After reading this story, I don't think this is a worrisome division. It seems to me that all tribe members have the same goal in mind - to establish a viable money-maker, a GREAT way of supporting their families and pumping money into a tribe that has received the short end of the stick for way too long. To begrudge the Shinnecock nation ANY type advancement is just ridiculous. To apply a NIMBY attitude is pretty brazen considering no one minded when THEIR backyard was stolen, developed and disrespected!!!! I think this article was almost an attempt to make it look like there is great dissent within the tribe -- the old "Divide and Conquer" technique. The trustees, past and present, may have many opinions, but they are united in their goals - how they get there will be subject to many discussions resulting in a plan that some will be happy with and some will not. But don't doubt for a minute that they won't succeed. This has been a long time coming, and they deserve success, security, recognition and RESPECT." Jul 9, 09 10:32 AM

At home with Gerson and Judith Leiber

Several years ago, the Leibers were kind enough to allow their lovely home to be included on the Guild Hall's Garden Tour. Those lucky enough to attend gained a priviledged peek at that incredible "Palladian-style" museum - and could then stroll through their equally beautiful grounds to reflect on the talent and life experience of these lovely people. This charming couple continues to enrich the world with their talent and warmth, while effectively safeguarding their much-deserved privacy -- a difficult balance to strike in this ever changing world. Thank you for this enjoyable article and Thank You to the Leibers!
