Town Board Will Hold Hearing Tuesday On New Energy Efficient Building Standards

Bennicasa is suggesting that only the first tier's (the code is written in 3 tiers, small. large, mcmansion housing) energy efficiency be improved. The other tiers already have high energy efficiency standards in place. The smaller homes, built or substantially renovated by the "little guy" will now need to be more efficient. I see it as protection. Now the builders and renovators must take into account the energy usage that the average Joe will be paying for. The modest increase in cost will more than pay the homeowner back. No more cheap windows, poor insulation and leaky skylites. Thanks Southampton." Jul 25, 11 9:52 AM

Elected Officials Address Concerns Over Hampton Bays Homeless Shelter

this is what happens when nobody wants "affordable" workforce housing in their communities. 500 homeless in suffolk! that means for every adult there are about 3 homeless children. Should we have a care for those children? I say, let us each take care of our own. Every single town, every village, every hamlet should have a plan for their working poor and yes, their homeless! We are a society that has compassion for those less fortunate...but for the grace of God go I. " Nov 22, 11 4:12 PM

Southampton Town Board Holds Off On Plastic Bag Ban

I would prefer the legislation ban ALL bags...this way we'd be forced to bring our own! People do not always change habits willingly..they need a nudge. Like ATH said..."we didn't like wearing seat belts either, but look how many lives it has saved, and it's a habit now." I cannot even conceive of starting my car without my belt on. Banning plastic bags is a start. I get a 25 cent credit every time I check out. I BYOB and earn 5 cents for each bag I bring and pack. And I don't get annoyed anymore about the checkout person putting 2 items in a bag and walking out with 22 unfull bags...grrrrr. " Dec 14, 11 6:05 PM

Stakeholders Asked To Help Lay Plans For New Sustainability Institute At Stony Brook Southampton

What on earth does one have to do with the other. It's like saying....I'm losing my house so can we please eliminate all funding for pollution controls? Why do people insist on comparing apples and oranges in the same sentence?" Jan 26, 12 4:58 PM
