Southampton Town Justice Court relocation to go forward

Of course we don't want the transport of prisoners near the Southampton schools. So let's move them next to our public park where our children play and our local school's sports teams host games. Right. The court has been there for years without any problems. The services we receive from the town are inadequate as it is, yet we should have to pay for a new police station & courthouse? Southampton politics at it's best." Feb 19, 09 9:55 AM

Teen who fell from 'party bus' in stable condition; charges might be filed

The limo service was hired to transport your kids, not supervise them. 30 teenagers on a PARTY BUS, with out a chapperone? Parents, what were you thinking?" Mar 17, 09 9:25 AM

Erick, my prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. " Mar 17, 09 9:27 AM

Southampton Town officials: Capital budget is short $4.9 million

If we really want to know what's going on with the books, maybe it's time for an audit from an outside source. It's sad to say, but I don't feel comfortable trusting anyone in the past or current administration to oversee the town's finances. I'm sorry, but you don't just "overlook" accounting errors of 4.9 million dollars. I'm afraid this might be a much deeper problem than we're being lead to believe. get ready for your tax increase people. " Mar 23, 09 9:45 AM

Citing hassle and expense, East End police departments ignore seizure law

While taking a walk one afternoon within the town of Southampton, my mother was hit by an UNLICENSED DRIVER, who swerved off the road. Not only is she crippled for life, but guess what? Unlicensed drivers don't have INSURANCE. So, not only is she crippled for life, she also had to bear the cost and expense of years of surgeries and medical expenses related to the accident. Believe me, these costs add up to a bit more then the cost of towing a car. Who knows how many times the driver had been previously charged with DWI's? Maybe, if the police department had done it's job, this driver would not have had a vehicle to drive that fateful day. I didn't realize that the police department could arbitrarily and selectively enforce LAWS. " Mar 25, 09 4:25 PM

Southampton Town Comptroller charged with DWI

Nassau County published a "Wall of Shame". Suffolk should do the same. I agree with Ms. Jane, we all need to have a NO TOLERANCE polcy for dwi's, public servant or not. " Mar 26, 09 1:01 PM

Capital budget error bolstered budget surplus, which was used to cut taxes

Forget budget & accounting training. Our tax dollars are not for training elected officials to do their jobs. They are the ones we elected to hire competent professionals to manage Town funds. CLEAN HOUSE. STOP UNECESSARY SPENDING. Cut salaries, benefits, perks, town paid vehicles, the list goes on. There's plenty of fat to cut out of the budget that the public is not even aware of, before cutting our services and raising our taxes. Forget the new courts in hampton bays, cancel any contracts & take the hit. Work with what you've got. " Apr 2, 09 9:20 AM

Code enforcement shuts down soup kitchen at Southampton Tire

Your kindness and compassion does not go unnoticed, even though you tried to "stay under the radar". I thank you on behalf of those who appreciate your self-less efforts to make a small difference in the life of those less fortunate." Apr 2, 09 11:31 AM

More details unveiled in $50 million mortgage fraud scheme

Where did the half million bucks in mortgage tax from thes mortgages go? Probably into the Town's General Surplus Fund. Oh, what a tangled web we weave...........Town residents, get ready to dig deeper into your pockets to pay more in taxes for supporting the greedy lifestyles of these dirtbags for 6-7 years. I agree with mortog, there's definitely many more players involved, most likely a mortgage broker and/or banker. " Apr 3, 09 9:58 AM

Businesses struggle to thrive in bad economy

Beach Queen, where the hell is that coming from? The state of the GLOBAL ECONOMY, is effecting EVERYONE, and has nothing to do with how the locals treat the "city folk". The fact is people have less money to spend due to job and investment losses, which affects local economies everywhere, not just in the hamptons. To say that the local residents are losing their livlihood because they need to be more "friendly" to tourists is quite petty and selfish. Local businesses look forward to the summer tourist trade and appreciate the business. I have lived in the hamptons and manhattan both part and full time all of my life, and I find that, no matter where you are, if you are friendly and respectful to others you will be treated in kind." Money designated for affordable housing never moved; housing fund in the red

I agree with Sally Pope. These were intentional acts of wrongdoing. All involved should be criminally investigated. This is out and out fraud by elected officials. And forget about creating new affordable housing. What about the current residents? I just got a reassessment letter stating the value of my house increased by $63,000 in one year. Are you kidding me? in this market? The town can make me an offer based on their assessment. I'd be thrilled to sell to them for that price because I don't know how much longer I can afford to live in this township. " May 12, 09 12:21 PM

Southampton Town restructures its finance department, hires new comptroller

So, cut our losses and pay him through the end of the year. But don't CREATE a $100,000 position for him. Let's stop throwing good taxpayer dollars after bad. We can't afford this any longer. Stop the insanity!" May 26, 09 9:49 AM

Town used wildly inaccurate numbers in calculating PILOTs, Thiele says

It's a very nice sentiment to say that the town should replenish the fund, but where do you think the town gets it's funds? from the TAXPAYERS. If this is going to mean another tax increase to the residents, and it will, I believe most of us could care less about replenishing the CPF. The town can do without it. We're more concerned about being able to afford to stay in our homes and still feed our families. Are all of our town employees really this incompetent? There is no more room for assumptions and excuses for these people who have "mismanaged" our tax dollars. If they screwed up and didn't do their job, GET RID OF THEM. " Jul 1, 09 1:55 PM

Kabot's court date is pushed back to December

I could care less if she took a breath test or not, and whether she is found guilty of DWI or not. She admittedly drank that night, drove a vehicle and was pulled over. I highly doubt she was stopped by the police for no reason. She is a public servant. When she ran for office she do so knowing she would held to a higher standard of conduct and also that her actions would be made public. For those who say this is a personal matter, how do you define criminal actions to determine which is a personal matter and which should be made public? Once your arrested, they're all public matters. This entire incident is UNACCEPTABLE from a public servant. Period." Oct 30, 09 11:15 AM

Trespassing charges dropped against East Quogue woman arrested near ANG base; wrongful arrest lawsuits filed

Besides having an unusual hobby for "just a mom" of 3 children that involves carryiing firearms and large amounts of ammo in her car, does anyone else find her online ramblings a bit unsettling? Besides making alot of slanderous statements about the police and public officials, she just sounds crazy. I'm embarrassed that I wasted my time reading some of her comments. She is feeding off of the attention. What she really needs is a psychiatric evaluation. And to be fined for wasting our tax dollars for defending her lawsuits." Dec 1, 09 10:00 AM

East Quogue woman files $70 million lawsuit against Suffolk County and Southampton Town

who the hell carries an assault rifle, shotgun, 500 rounds of ammo and $13,000 cash, other than drug dealers? You were going to pay your kids tuition in cash? who are you kidding! Maybe the IRS sould investigate you, too.You really think this is typical behavior of a mother of three? And what purpose do you have to need to know how to shoot an assault rifle? Stop wasting my tax dollars with your frivolous lawsuits. Get some help before do something even more stupid (if possible) and really hurt someone. " Jul 30, 10 3:08 PM

I'm sure the police did not arrest her because of her political views, as though carrying an assault rifle, shot gun, dozens of rounds of ammo & $13,000 in cash while taking illegal pictures of a US military base, and probably arguing and antagonizing the police while being questioned, weren't reasons enough to be detained. She says she doesn't feel safe after this incident, but I should feel safe with someone driving around with assault weapons in my neighborhood? Would you honestly feel safe with a neighbor like this? Wake up, just last year we had shooting sprees at Fort Hood, Virginia Tech & the immigrant counselling center in Binghamton, just to name a few. Try reading her myspace blogs, and all of her posts from last year, until here lawyers shut her up. Walking time bomb. " Jul 30, 10 4:33 PM

Raucous Meeting Focuses On Fights At Southampton High School

The school adminstration needs to take a zero tolerance stance on violence in and around school grounds. Kids involved in such acts should be imediately suspended. Second offense, expel them Let them know that type of behavior is not acceptable anywhere. Let the teachers do their jobs for the kids who are serious about an education. They are not paid to babysit, police or handle everyones social issues, they are paid to educate our kids. " Oct 20, 10 11:57 AM

Burned-Out Streetlights In Flanders May Outline Understaffing In The Highway Department
