Lunch With John Halsted: Finding the silver lining in a bad economy

Very well said nospinhamptons. Just becasue you have a beef with the company doesn't make him a bad person. I guarantee he has more knowlege than all you against him. If you all had the same knowlege as him, wouldn't you be an executive in a major real estate group just like him. If you brought home the same checks that John did, I don't think you would be making these comments!

P.S. Everyone has their own opinions and mine is keep all your negative opinions to yourselves!" Feb 24, 09 11:14 PM

Republican majority on Southampton Town Board quashes plan to restructure financial department

Thats great. Lets knock down a person salary by $32,000 and give someone else a huge raise that hasn't been there that long. You can pay me the $450 a day or $110,000 plus benefits a year to tell the town what they need to buy and what they dont need to buy. It seems as if when people start slacking, the administration doesn't put their foot down and take action on the problem. The only thing they do to fix it is create another position in hopes that thesituation will resolve itself. Just another way to waste our tax payer money!" Feb 25, 09 8:49 AM

Lunch With John Halsted: Finding the silver lining in a bad economy

John and his family have lived in the in the hamptons for over a decade. His family has been around in Southampton for centuries so he ceratinly knows about "east end reality". He obviously has alot of knowledge and makes good choices or else he wouldn't be the president of HANFRA. Also everyone makes idiotic choices. You might be making an idiotic choice by commenting here with your moronic comments... I think everyone might be jealous of him that he might be selling more real estate then you guys are. Or perhaps you used to be one of his agents and he had to let you go. " Feb 25, 09 12:39 PM

No I'm not joking LM, are you joking? Its sad that so many of you are doubting his knowledge and his roots here in southampton. The man is trying to make a living and you are just tearing him up. " Feb 26, 09 12:17 AM

Supervisor has bone to pick over councilwoman's dog

There are alot more important things that LInda Kabot should be worrying about in town hall. If no one complained then there should be no reason for this argument. If someone was affraid to speak up about it than maybe ther shouldn't be working for the town because maybe they will be affraid to speak up about other matters. I can think of alot easier and nicer ways to ask someone to stop doing something than bringing it up to public. I can see if she was asked several times to not bring the dog to work, but no oe ever said a word to her. This is a real big problem if LInda Kabot is worrying about a small issue like this. I agree with Councilman Nuzzi. LInda Kabot, you should be ashamed." Mar 6, 09 6:01 PM

Some opposition to proposed farmers market in Southampton

Being a true local farmer myself from southampton, I think this is a great idea to have a farmers market. Not only will it bring people together, it will help farmers advertise for their business. If someone goes to the farmers market and buys corn and really likes it, then they most likely will go to that farmers farm stand and buy some more. I do however agree with Dennis Schmidt that this farmers market should only be open to South Fork people only. The farmers market doesn't have to be for just farmers; it can be for people who make home made items such as jellies, bread, etc. Also, the market doesn't have to be for just food items. Local farmers could bring other items such as flowers, ornamental plants and other items. This is a great idea and should be processed through, BUT it should be well thought out and create some rules and guidelines (e.g. only Southfork farmers can sel items). " Mar 20, 09 2:25 PM

You are incorrect Nicole! There are way more than 5 functioning farms left on the south fork. I happen to be a local farmer that owns a functioning farm. You cannot say that they all are going to be paved over with "hamptons mega-mc-mansions" (is that a mcdonals item) or whatever you call them. My farm will not go under to give into housing.

We should ALL care about preserving the remaining farms and what the farmers feel.

You want to know whats absurd? The fact that you are posting comments like this and that you have no clue what you are talking about. Before you post such a ridiculous comment, you should really get your facts straight. (only 5 functioning farms left on the south fork---what are you kidding me?)

The best way to help out the local southampton farms is to support their business and not go to the northfork or other places to buy things.

Remember, southampton used to be all farms. We are a farming community. Why not help preserve that?

Before you criticize the farmers, remember who was here first." Mar 24, 09 12:00 PM

Woman dies in crash; driver flees on foot

E you are correct. Hmm isn't it funny, a few months back there was a death involving a latino and the only thing people were concerned about was if he was legal or not. It is pathetic that most of you show no concern to the lady's family. The only thing that is in concern here is that the gentleman might have been spanish and that he is probably illegal. Its ashame. There are more things that we all should think about here. My thoughts go out to the victims family and hopefully the police will find the driver." Mar 29, 09 4:21 PM

Southampton wrestling coach arrested on drug charges

Don't they teach people in physical education school that drugs are bad. He just was hired by southampton school district and had a great job. Even though he probably wasn't making top dollar there yet, he still recieved ful medical benefits. Why would someone be willing to jeopardize a grea job that has "made his life's ambition". Its very sad. I hope he gets the help he needs and is able to overcome this problem. " Mar 29, 09 4:25 PM

Oyster growing drawing complaints from neighbors

Matt....You are correct. Bill Pell has given my family free oysters a few times. He is a great guy and we need more people in our community like him." Apr 9, 09 9:50 PM

You know...Its a damn shame that these people come out here from the city for the summer and want to take control of our town. They expect us to bend over backwards for them when in reality...this is our town and they should be bending over backwards for us. They always think they deserve better. Well I've got news...we were here first and if they dont like it the DON'T COME HERE! Its as simple as that." Apr 13, 09 7:55 PM

Southampton Elementary School principal faces uncertain future

This has nothing to do with racism. It is not right that whenever something does not go someones way that is african american or native america, they immediatly pull the race card. I agree that they should grant Ms. Richard tenure but it has nothing to do with race why Dr. Boyes doesn't feel she should get it. I hope that he changes his mind and grants her it.

As far as Mr. Gumbs' statement "thats why she was forced out", Linda Bruno was not forced out because she was diversifying the school district. She was not welcomed back because she was not a good superintendant. To say she was terrible is an understatement.

It really bothers me that so many people are pulling the race card in this situation. That's just like me saying that by appointing Ms. Richard as the principle, the school district dicriminated against all the white teachers applying for the prinicple spot that did not get it.

Again, I hope Ms. Richard gets tenure because she is a very good principal." May 6, 09 3:29 PM

PBA and town at impasse over contract negotiations

As Linda Kabot says, "You are not on your best game at hour 10, are you?”. At least they will get 10 hours out of them until they aren't their best. Linda Kabot is not on her best game at hour 1. If it would benefit her and give her a raise or make it so she had to do less work, she would be in favor of it. These police officers are the ones protecting her and she wont give them their contract! Come on!" May 7, 09 12:10 AM

Money designated for affordable housing never moved; housing fund in the red

Maybe when Linda was worrying about Ms. Throne-Holst's dog she should have been worrying about where this money is. Its ok, now that they screwed up, Linda will hire another town employee to be in charge of the affordable housing funding. Eastquogueguy, I cannot agree with you more when you say November cannot come soon enough. Hopefully Linda doesn't run the town too far into the ground by then!" May 7, 09 6:40 AM

Southampton Elementary School principal faces uncertain future

Not to go off on a tangent but even though the Town Supervisor may have a little more responsibility than the principal, the Town Supervisor hardly does any work and is terrible at her job. She deserves to make 30,000 lower than the elementary school principal." May 11, 09 12:47 PM

Southampton Village Board incumbents face familiar challenger; mayor unopposed

I sure hope Paul Robinson gets re-elected. He is a very nice guy and knows politics. He is great at what he does and is a very fair guy!" May 15, 09 7:14 PM

Doesn't anybody see something wrong with Chris Broich getting fired from the Police Department and now running for trustee in the village. All he wants to do is get back at the police department. He doesn't want to help our community. The only thing he is concernned about is getting back at the police department becasue he got fired. To me that is not right. " May 18, 09 11:55 PM

Two critically injured in accident on CR39 Monday morning

Its unfortunate that the people who were responsible after drinking and got a ride home in a taxi were the ones who got injured. This teen was drunk and was not a responsible person. Its ashame that people are ripping into Hometown Taxi and blaming them for the accident. It also is ashame that people are saying all taxi drivers drive crazy. If you want to make assumptions like that then why dont we say that all teens are not responsible and drink and drive. Its not true nor is it right.
I highly respect HomeTown Taxi and Bryan Daparma for all he does for this community and for the volunteers. It is too bad that something like this has to happen to such a great company. " May 26, 09 2:47 PM

You can call this kid innocent all you want. This is not the first time he has broken the law. He was due in court supposedly this week for other charges. He should be charged as an adult. He signed the paperwork to get hs drivers license and become an adult, so he should be held reliable as an adult. If he was a minor, he should still have his drivers permit, not his full license.
By punishing him as a minor, what statue is that setting for all the other 18 year olds out there that drink.....It shows them that it is ok to drink and drive and they will not get in as much trouble as an adult. Thats not the right satue to set! " May 27, 09 11:49 AM

Town wants to outlaw jake braking at village boundaries

Next they wll complain that the trucks engines are too loud. What will be next after that? Banning trucks? This is ridiculous and people forget that these trucks are the ones deivering them their packages and hauling in their food to supermarkets. Also these trucks are bringing good so they can SHOP! Jake brakes help a truck and truck driver so much. Instead of having to wear out the brakes on the truck from trying to stop a heavy load, the jake brake allows the truck to slow down without using brakes. They also help a truck stop in a shorter distance than without a jake brake. The way people drive out here, the trucks have difficult time as it is trying to stop when a car pulls out in front of them our cut them off. People have no respect for trucks and forget how much we need them." Jun 10, 09 10:06 AM

Southampton Elementary and Intermediate schools' openings will be delayed by hours

As usual, a Southampton School District project went longer than expected. Why isn't the school district putting their foot down and demanding these projects be done by the deadline. Maybe they should include a clause in the project contracts setting a penalty for these contrcting copanies for not meeting a deadline. " Sep 1, 09 4:19 PM

Will one half day really make a difference though?

Also, why not hire local companies and contractors to do the work. These companies are paying taxes to the school, why not give some of the money back to the community and give them some work? We are all complaining how there is less work now,,,well maybe there would be more if our own school district hired local companies. " Sep 5, 09 5:28 AM

Southampton Village replaces Crown Victorias with Chargers

Well I knew it wouldn't be long until people started complaining.

Ford has annouced that they are planning on not making the crown vics anymore. Dodge has stepped up to the plate with the charger. Maybe if you all did a little research you would find that most police departments are moving over to the dodge chargers.

And FYI Frank, sitting inside the chargers actually is smaller and tighter than the crown vics. Im sure if you had to sit in a car for 8 hours at a time you would want it to be comfortable too." Sep 26, 09 12:45 AM
