Cedar Island Lighthouse To Become Bed And Breakfast

I had the opportunity to tour the inside of the Cedar Island lighthouse a few years back. The interior is completely gutted by a fire in 1974. Much worse than I suspected. Whether the fire affected the granite walls to any extent is unknown. I would say a million plus restoration job is in order.

I used to sail by the lighthouse in the summers of the early 1960's when it was privately own by a woman with two dogs of very hostile dispositions! The county parks took it over around 1967, but could never find a lighthouse keeper to live there, probably because of it's remote location." Jun 26, 14 1:02 PM

State Police Arrest Four in Sag Harbor and Montauk for Providing Alcohol to Minors

Marlinspike, More than likely the troopers borrowed one of the summer TCO's who work for an area P.D. and would be between age of 18 and 20 for this undercover op. The U/O no doubt would be fitted with a wireless camcorder for later evidence in court if necessary.
I happened to witness the undercover operation the other day in the 7-11 lot in Sag Harbor, and several uniformed state troopers swooped right out of unmarked cars in he 7-11 lot when the sale went down.

You usually see this enforcement at the beginning of each summer to serve as a reminder of SLA laws in effect. When in doubt, proof the kid. Between lawyers fees and fines, it's expensive and not worth the hassle." Jun 29, 14 11:45 AM

UPDATE: Fence Installed At Historic Burying Ground Removed Over Weekend

Google Earth, satellite image data would probably determine what the existing property boundary looked like. In any event, I don't think there is any question that the hedge and fence will have to be moved back to the property line. If the fence is 200 feet long, that's 2000 square feet of cemetery in someone's back yard. It's going to be expensive for someone." Oct 30, 15 6:55 PM

UPDATE: Toddler Revived By Emergency Personnel In Near-Drowning In Montauk Wednesday

Unless it has changed in the past dozen years, there are various landing zones all over eastern Long Island, including Montauk, for this purpose, i.e. softball fields, golf courses, etc. I had a list at one time. Contrary to popular belief, you would not want to land on a beach, unless it was a last resort, due to the possibility of sand or other debris being sucked into intake of the turboshaft engine/s." Special Needs Student Will Be Able To Attend Westhampton Beach Middle School Under Agreement

Maybe the school district deciding that treating Aiden as an outcast wasn't such a great idea. All the best to you Aiden, and I hope you make a lot of new friends." Sep 2, 16 10:24 PM

East End Ambulances Ditch Pricey EpiPens For Standardized Injection System

Ironic that the EpiPen was designed by the U.S. Government with taxpayers money, yet one Corp. is the only game in town selling these devices, mandated by schools etc. That's why they are ripping off the public. GREED!!!" Sep 27, 16 8:30 PM

Local Lawmakers Say Immigration Enforcement Is Not The Job Of Local Police

Not surprised. Thousands of immigrants are employed illegally through out East Hampton Town. Guess Cantwell does not want to step on certain business people's toes. It's called selective enforcement. As far as the Feds checking in with local authorities before a raid. Please, give me a break!" Feb 17, 17 9:45 AM

East Hampton Wants A Montauk Bus Loop For Summer 2017

Martha's Vineyard has been running a 24 hour bus service for several years now. (Several loops for different neighborhoods) GPS is built into the Infrastructure and you can track where your bus is in real time via a phone app. Waiting times are never more than 20-30 minutes. The system would work well during summers in Montauk if money was available for startup

UPDATE: East Hampton Town Officials Denounce Violence In Charlottesville

I hope they didn't tear down the concrete pedestals these statues were mounted on. They're going to need them for the new heroes of the next civil war that is coming soon to the United States." Aug 17, 17 4:27 PM

In Villages And Towns, Side Jobs Are Common For Police And Officials--As Are Concerns About Conflicts

The bottom line is the wealthy sectors are buying protection for their parties. Sounds a little like the mafia? There is a fine line between the two. A lot of off duty guys want no part of this side business, guests snorting coke, blasting music, driving off intoxicated etc. That's the way it's always been.

UPDATE: Southampton And Sag Harbor To Participate In National Marches Protesting Gun Violence On Saturday

I don't know if industry caused it, or it was simply panic buying by Americans fearing something bad was coming following post Sandy Hook. In any event, only in the past 12-18 months has inventory on ammo returned to normal. Western Cartridge Co. and all the others made an absolute fortune and couldn't keep up with demand, even when the factories were running 24/7 for years. " Mar 21, 18 12:52 PM

$73 million? Try closer to 1 billion dollars in sales in the past 5 years on firearm sales and ammo. that's real money! It makes you wonder about who the real stockholders are in these companies.

East End Residents Participate In Marches Protesting Gun Violence

At least one gentleman in the photo has the decency to mention the 58 Las Vegas victims on his protest sign. I know, I know, the folks at the Vegas concert were country music loving conservatives so they don't count in the eyes of liberals." Mar 24, 18 7:56 PM

UPDATE: Police Offer No Leads In Thursday's County Road 39 Fatality

I agree with your post. 39 is a dangerous road. But only a coward would strike and killed a man and leave him in the roadway. Totally messed up situation. RIP sir.

Restaurants Face Pet Owners Who Say They Need Emotional Support

Your right. My wife is legally blind. However, if the service dog creates a disturbance in say a restaurant, she and the dog can be kicked out. The chances of a trained service animal causing a disturbance are very rare." Aug 16, 18 3:07 PM

More East Hampton Voters Say Their Signatures Were Forged On Petitions

Nice investigative reporting. You don't see many local newspapers nowadays actually going out on the road and conducting this type of investigative journalism. Or for that fact, even bother mentioning the story. " Aug 22, 18 11:47 AM

Bay Burger To Close Its Doors Permanently This October

That side-business is also available for purchase. It is produced in part of the Sag Harbor Industries plant next door to the Bay Burger I am told. It's a decent ice cream. Too bad so many of these mom and pop businesses are closing down." Sep 8, 18 1:38 PM

New York Moves Closer To Legalizing Recreational Marijuana

Of course NY State will legalize pot. It's all about money. Get hundreds of thousands of new users and reap millions every month on tax. Why do you think they hate vapors? Cut's into the mob's, I mean government's tobacco profits. They could care less about what billions of dollars this causes in health care.

Plane Overshoots Runway, Ends Up On Montauk Highway In East Moriches On Saturday

Now that you say it, I cannot remember anyone on the ground, on eastern Long Island, being killed or seriously injured by a falling plane. And there have been several in the past 1/2 century. The last I remember were two Army Air Force Mustangs in a mid-air collision in the summer of 1949 over North Haven. Some children at a summer camp were slightly burned by hot engine oil, but no fatalities except those aboard both aircraft." Oct 23, 18 9:24 AM
