Big Drop In Tickets Issued By Southampton Village

There's a lot more money to be made in parking violations. Forget the UTT's. The state gets a big cut of that anyway. The village should not be relying on this money anyway. All it leads to is quotas." Jun 8, 12 8:29 PM

Pepper Spray Hits Shelves At Sag Harbor Pharmacy

Apparently a licensed pharmacist can be an authorized dealer in NY State. Last I new Mace was illegal to posess in NY. Maybe the law changed." Jun 27, 12 12:29 PM

Odd, I wonder why the town police arrested someone I know on a "B" misdemeanor when they found mace in his possession on a traffic stop, under section, Unlawful Possession of Noxious Material, New York Penal Law 270.05 PL. You saying it was a bad call by PD?

In otherwords, if I carry a jar of urine, a noxious material, around with me with intent to throw it in soneone's face if the bother me, then it's legal to do so?" Jun 27, 12 5:02 PM

Head-On County Road 39 Crash Backs Up Traffic For More Than Six Hours

The fire department, I read, secured the scene in two hours, which left another 4 hours. I was told they were waiting for D.O.T. to respond for a safety check of the truck. You know, the guys in the orange coveralls who work with the troopers and write up all the truckers in the rest areas.

6 hours for one injury? Way too long for that location...." Jul 25, 12 5:42 PM

Plane Crash At East Hampton Airport On Sunday

Well, I got two hours of relief from helicopter noise here in Noyac while the airport was closed down due to the crash. I hear the pilot and passenger walked away from the crash, after losing power right after taking off from runway 10." Aug 26, 12 7:36 PM

East Hampton School District Responds To Student's Death

You think the school authorities are going to publicly acknowledge that one of their 15 year old students hung himself Saturday rather then go back to school today and face more bullying?? If true, there is something very wrong on Long Lane in East Hampton. " Oct 1, 12 4:59 PM

UPDATE: FEMA Gas Relief Arrives In Hampton Bays

I went past the Watermill Hess and Wainscott Hess about 11am today. Police are on duty at both sites. Watermill was not open and a long line extended down Scuttlehole Rd. Reports of people sleeping in their cars overnight at the closed station.

In Wainscott, Hess have reg. gas, but the line extended down to the tank at the Vet's Hall. About 300 cars. I would estimate a 4-5 hr wait.

All around, not a good situation. If there were not police presence at the open stations, your beginning to approach into area of mob rules. Another problem will be gas siphoning. I had to deal with this in the 1973-74 oil shortage. Odd/even should be implemented immediately to cut the lines in half." Nov 3, 12 2:21 PM

Prices Released For Watchcase Condos At Bulova

Look at it this way, the buyers will only have to walk a couple of hundred feet when they get off the Hampton Jitney. Location, location.

Be interesting if these units are snapped up, as someone stated above, or it turns into a white elephant." Dec 12, 12 6:02 PM

PLUM TV No Longer Available In The Hamptons

Frazier was Ltv's founder back around 1984 if I recall. Operated out of a studio behind Stanley's Trash Service on Springs Rd. The public access station attracted a lot of talent in the area, and was actually decent. As Cablevision would never broadcast it to Southampton, I have not seen it in years to see what it is like nowadays." May 8, 13 8:34 PM

Hey fairwind, that's all we got prior to 1965. WTIC Ch 3, Hartford CBS and WNHC Ch 8 in New Haven ABC. The stations are still on the air, digital transmissions of course nowadays. I still get them and about 18 other channels crystal clear with an outside antenna. Dropped cable ten years ago." May 8, 13 8:42 PM

I learned more about Conecticut as the CT stations did not have much news about Long Island. I recall George Thompson and Joe Francis on CH 8 WNHC. Somewhere on the net is the history of WNHC, now WTNH." May 9, 13 12:34 PM

Channel 30 is still on the air, NBC affiliate. 30.2 it's subcarrier, plays old 60's tv shows. My kids never believed me when I told them that we had a black and white tv, with 2 channels from an antenna on the roof, and that the set took a minute to warm up when you turned it on. No remote control and a TV repairman came once a year to take off the back off the set to replace tubes" May 9, 13 12:48 PM

Main Beach In East Hampton Tops The Best Beach List

Sag Harbor May Rehire Laid-Off Police Officer

You know, If I was Driscoll, I think I would tell the village to stick it. Seasonal, part time, medical benefits unclear, etc. He would be better off waiting until his former position is offered back, which I suspect will be in the near future." Jun 12, 13 4:51 PM

Recent Filming Raises Questions About The Hiring Of Local Police For Security

The practice has been going on since the 60's. Basically the well to do would hire cops for their summer parties so their guests would not get parking tickets and there would be some reasonable attempt at traffic control.

That being said, I have seen underage drinking, use of pot, coke, openly, and driving off intoxicated right under the noses of hired security. No I have never heard of a guest locked up because of one of these actions. Basically selective enforcement is what the host is paying for at his party." Jun 30, 13 6:53 PM

ATT Cellphone Customers Say They Are Fed Up With Poor Service

I have used Sprint for ten years. Coverage in Wainscott South is poor. Non-existent in the Georgica Association. Parts of Noyac Road west of the Community Bible Church is non-existent.

Local dealers are pushing Verizon as the best carrier for coverage on the east end. Haven't tried it so can's say." Jul 20, 13 1:13 PM

Sagaponack Village Board To Vote On Pursuing Separate Police Force On Monday

It costs big bucks to create a police department. What are they going to do about lodging prisoners, detective services for major crimes, vehicles, dispatching etc? Minimum staffing requirements would call for a chief and at least 6 patrol personnel. Where is their HQ going to be located? In an addition attached to Village Hall?

If Sagaponack has the money, creating it's village police force is the way to go for response time, etc. I would estimate you are looking at an budget cost of 2.5 to 3 million a year. I don't know what Southampton charges them for police service, but there appears to be decent patrol coverage around Sagg Main and Sagaponack Road. At least when I pass through four times a day." Aug 10, 13 8:11 PM

Sagaponack Schedules Vote On Forming Police Department

If Sagaponack Village decided to do this, they would be smart to also create their own justice court. While NY State would always get their cut on any moving violations written by a Sagaponack Village cop, I believe they could cut out Southampton Town from any of this revenue. They would be smart to hire summer TCO's also. A lot of revenue in parking tickets at beaches etc. in the hundreds of thousands." Aug 20, 13 4:17 PM

'Delta Dagger' Jet From Westhampton Air Base To Be Auctioned

I use to watch the fighters takeoff and land in 1969 from the parking lot of the Westhampton Beach High School. It was still an active Air Force base then. I may be wrong, but I believe they were F-101 Voodoos, which left when the base closed in December 1969.

The ANG moved in, in the very early 1970's after the base was idle for a year or so. A lot of history there. There was also a NIKE missile base a couple of miles away on Old Country Rd. Warheads were in the megaton range. By 65 they were gone and SCPD ran it's academy in the missle assembly building on the site till the early 80's. The old silo's became storage buildings for the county. Must of been 50 or 60 missile silos if I recall. Cool stuff." Sep 13, 13 12:07 PM

Armed Robbery On Sag Harbor's Main Street; Suspects At Large

I never heard of a robbery where the suspects would spend half an hour in the store. Your in and out in less than a couple of minutes. No video and no suspects in custody. Something doesn't add up." Nov 20, 13 6:17 PM

Armed Robbery On Sag Harbor's Main Street; Suspects At Large

I got the same feeling. The story reads like an old Kojak TV show. In real life it doesn't happen this way. If indeed it happened, I wonder if the real intent was to scare the victim enough to drive her out of business, the proceeds of the robbery being secondary.

A security camera in another business might of captured the event during the times listed above. Personally, I don't think it will be very hard to solve." Nov 21, 13 8:01 PM
