Southampton highway superintendent asks for more money for road paving

Funny, he found plenty of money to have a very large sign built announcing his name and title. Saw the photo in the Press. It never ends." Feb 20, 10 5:20 PM

Southampton Village mayor and police chief at odds over officers' secondary employment applications

i read this and threw up." Mar 20, 10 8:36 AM

The very fact that police officers earn upwards of $200,000 (salary and benefits) in a tiny, virtually crime-free village, is laughable The fact that they have enough free time on their hands to put in 20, 30, 40 hours AT SECOND JOBS, is insane.

I'm all for safety and protection but enough is enough. This is where our taxes go." Mar 20, 10 8:40 AM

thanks for making my point: their obligations as municipal employees are so minimal and easy that they have all this time on their hands to work second and third jobs. It's not the cops' fault for taking advantage of the system; it's our fault for allowing our elected leaders to set such easy work rules." Mar 20, 10 1:30 PM

Cmon, get serious. this area has incredibly low crime rates - a murder every 2 or 3 years, a few drug busts here and there. But don't trust me, do the math:

600 arrests by 30 cops is 20 arrests per officer... that's what cops would do in a DAY in big cities and even in other parts of Suffolk.

Everyone out here is coasting. Police, teachers, the supervisors - they all make huge salaries for part-time work, which is why we have a huge deficit in one of the richest communities in America." Mar 20, 10 1:38 PM

Southampton Town looks to confer authority of peace officers on code officers

dont worry, Sargent. We'll still pay you $100,000 a year for life plus benefits and now you don't have to feel guilty for taking 2 or 3 side jobs. Oh wait, this is Southampton. that stuff is legal." Apr 21, 10 9:07 PM

New owner of Fairway Restaurant hoping to move in in late June

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" Jun 3, 10 7:20 PM

Classic Hamptons. Give a management contract with lax oversight to an outsider (Ed Wanker). then sit back and watch him run a good operator off the premises for no reason at all. Then the town (a k a the taxpayers) end up paying to upgrade the property - not the management co, not the restaurant." Jun 3, 10 10:22 PM

totally got it right. As i said - only in SH can the government allow a contracted management co to run off a perfectly fine operator for no valid reason, then bring in a new vendor with no valid negotiation... and leave us footing the bill for "improvements". Classic" Jun 8, 10 9:58 PM

Kabot's pre-trial hearing will continue next week

TOTALLY wrong. The judge would call you in and sentence you right then and there on the spot. Go to court one day and see how many DWI cases are continued FOR A YEAR." Jul 13, 10 10:19 PM

Respectfully - the fact that she refused to take the test is a crime in and of itself. Everything else is just showboating, unless they can prove the traffic stop was totally illegal which is tough to do. but in our town anything is possible." Jul 13, 10 10:21 PM

Restaurant owner will not open cafe at Poxabogue Golf Center

Gimme a break. he had a sweetheart deal with the management co to turn the place into a fancy nighttime spot where he could make more money from selling booze. The Town - who owns the property - clearly didn't want that. So when his sweetheart deal got more expensive, he walked away. everything else is a smokescreen." Aug 9, 10 1:05 PM

Hmm... somehow the previous owners managed to get by for years under these terms. They were run off the property by Wankel - who wanted to make more money by opening a fancy place and jacked the rent and conditions. SH and Nuzzi had no power over that - because the Town mistakenly gave Wankel too much operating authority. What they did have power over was the liquor license, which was clearly the lynchpin in the scheme to drive off Dan. No one wanted this operator or this kind of restaurant in the first place." Aug 9, 10 1:11 PM

except... Dan Murray got by just fine for years without serving liquor or dinner. Remember, these "numbers" are the inflated ones that Wankel was hoping to get from bringing in his buddies. It's comical that they are now blaming the town - when Wankel knew all along that he had to get a liquor license. Why would the town do him any favors when he ignored the outcry from citizens and elected officials not to kick Dan out?" Aug 9, 10 5:14 PM

Funny, i remember going there for at least 10 years... I guess Dan Murray is a millionaire who just stayed open while losing money to help us all. what an idiotic statement - of course the place made money - the new guy and Wankel wanted a liquor license to make MORE money and couldn't get his way."
