UPDATE: Husband Of Missing Sagaponack Woman Asks Community For Help, Submits To Lie Detector Test

The police released very little information about the suspect they were seeking in Sister Jackie's death--this allowed him to escape not just the area, but the country.

Homeowners Continue To Struggle With Unimproved, Private Roads

Be careful what you wish for. The Town specs call for wide paved roads and shoulders. The rural, quiet character of these dirt roads will be lost forever once the Town pavers get there." Nov 30, 15 8:17 PM

Southampton Town To Build Emergency Sand Berm In East Quogue To Prevent Breaches

If you let the breach alone you run the risk of eventually losing the barrier beach altogether. If the location was completely natural, so what? But unless you're prepared to abandon the barrier beach, and allow the mainland to become oceanfront, the only alternative is to replenish the dunes and look for a way to sustain them.

Springs School Parents Speak Out Against Language Barrier In District

Wow the hatred and resentment on this page is shocking, EVEN in an era where people think that embracing Trump might hold the key to happiness. Get with the program, people--America will be JUST FINE as long as we remember that what made it great is a MIXTURE of cultures, languages, and philosophies, but an adherence to tolerance and respect based on individual freedom stemming from God-given human rights. Notificación en dos idiomas es una petición razonable , y no causar la destrucción del estate.

UPDATE: Farina Will Receive Nearly $300,000 After Resigning From Superintendent Position

Why is school district business regarding personnel ALWAYS cloaked in secrecy? Aren't these districts funded by the public? Supervisors and other administrators come and abruptly go in our district and surrounding districts, with the public given no clue as to why--leaving these toxic personnel in circulation to take other positions from which they can pursue their questionable endeavors elsewhere. Have we learned nothing from the scandals in other institutions that practiced the same 'hush up and send them down the road' policies? Not to mention, how incompetent are these school boards that allow this cloak and dagger approach? School board after school board making bad hire after bad hire. Handy and self serving to keep the public unaware as to exactly how this happens, isn't it?" Apr 17, 16 7:55 AM

Property Owner Carol Konner Withdraws Support For Bridgehampton Gateway PDD Proposal

The Hamptons real estate bubble will never burst, but unless a family has made long term planning for its successive generations, affordable housing will be limited to the every so often lottery schemes that offer say, one house, to thousands of applicants. " May 22, 16 7:45 AM

Striking Verizon Workers Push For Better Terms

There are very few unions left who can stand up to outsourcing, and the intransigence of multinational corporations who are acting like credit card companies when it comes to informing their employees of 'changes to their contracts' (i.e. when the credit card company decides you are going to be paying more interest and the billing period is 25 days instead of 30, that late fees will be increasing by 150%, and cash advance interest rate is 400% of the normal interest rate, etc, etc.). Verizon obviously feels it doesn't need to extend its employees the courtesy of even going through the motions of bargaining, they just feel that a 'negotiation' is a unilateral take it or leave it proposition. Ms. Kelleher is absolutely right--if one union goes, they all will. Support the union workers--What they are asking for is not unreasonable, especially in comparison to executive pay. And for a fact, striking workers are not earning that so-called 'average' figure of compensation mentioned above ($130K). " May 26, 16 9:30 AM

Shinnecock Tribal Member Given More Time To Fight For Beach Parking Rights In Village

I had no idea about this issue till I saw the messages the members of the Tribe were carrying during the parade...I think it's absurd that the members of the Shinnecock nation should have to pay for parking permits at village beaches. The word 'birthright' should absolutely apply in this case." Jul 5, 16 1:46 PM

Bus Riders And Officials Urge Suffolk County To Avoid Route Cuts

This is absolutely true! We had a babysitter who came to us from Hampton Bays, and could not get to Southampton before 10 or 11 am...to get home she had to leave by 2:30 or 3. A reasonable arrival by 9am to Southampton/East Hampton and a 4:30 or 5 pm departure would make much more sense. But we see the same thing with the LIRR--on the East End, it's only to deliver city people on a Friday, and get them back to NYC on Sunday/Monday, not provide people who live in Eastport a way to get to work in Montauk, ever.

Developers Begin Filling In Wetlands At Long Springs Farm In Southampton

I had not realized that a developer had purchased this property. The ponds there are very beautiful, and unusually intricate in their relationship to each other and the surrounding ecosystem. The entire area is largely unspoiled (till now)--I can't imagine how the town would not regard it as a heritage area. This is typical of big developers, moving quickly in hopes that they will 'just' be fined, which they regard simply as a cost of doing business." Sep 15, 16 9:27 PM
