Kabot's proposed $78 million budget will eliminate 48 town jobs next year

another senseless comment from someone who so dislikes law enforcement and has so little comprehension of the Town budget ... sad, very sad" Oct 8, 09 3:28 PM

No one is "quick" to see a family lose their job ... nor the accompanying discomfort that comes with a loss of income. However look across America in every small town and village --- millions have lost their jobs in a horrible economy (thanks to the legacy of G W Bush)!

Only on Long Island is it expected that the government (taxpayers) gives the population more jobs than the private sector here -- it's true government (taxpayers) at all levels on Long Island is the source of more jobs than all the private employers combined!

So when times are tough, the biggest source of savings is the highest expense -- personnel. When was the last time the Town had any large scale non-political lay off? NEVER !!! " Oct 8, 09 3:34 PM

this is a political pro-Kabot campaign comment and has no basis in fact. Kabot has been part of the leadership of this town for many many years and yes, she was in a position to vote on, and approve, past budgets. Simple as that, she is responsible for the financial chaos and $10 million screw up as are the rest of the members of the past and present administrations (dept heads included)." Oct 8, 09 3:38 PM

With friends like this guy, Linda Kabot needs no enemies" Oct 11, 09 3:32 PM

So highat when was it, exactly, that your hope to be one of the Southampton Town Police went up in flames? Your anger over these (mostly) dedicated, selfless men and women of law enforcement is really off-putting, even as you have adefinite right to air your beefs with the cops. " Oct 11, 09 3:36 PM

Nurse, don't get a headache trying to sift through the incompetence so obvious in both Southampton and East Hampton. It is mind boggling isn't it?

TIME TO CLEAN HOUSE: Let us all hope the voters in November, for once, see through the campaign manipulation and advertising sleaze sure to cover up the horrible mismanagement and ego-driven tenure of Linda Kabot. Try finding a more inept past administration at Town Hall -- Democratic or Republican -- and there is none so poorly handled nor comparable to the secrecy and failure of the Kabot Team. There is no past mismanagement that even comes close to Linda's many bad acts.

Most decidedly, she is a "blamer" never accepts responsibility for her actions and has misappropriated the TRUST placed in her by the taxpayers. No it ain't about Democrats or Republicans -- it is about someone in the Town's highest office who lacks the skills and the talent to lead an annual enterprise of $ 80 million. " Oct 11, 09 3:54 PM

Even Sam, a Kabot intimate, admits she must go ... and Nuzzi would be a fine difference once he's got a few more years of experience and seasoning. He is just too "green" to be handling or managing a "business" the size of Southampton Town." Oct 11, 09 3:57 PM

Thiele leaves Republicans, joins Independence Party

Frankie -- you don't really want to go down that road now do you? No party has a lock on ethics ... we could play political ping pong all day long on the many "bad apples" on both sides who brought shame to themselves and the party who backed them for office ... Look how many people elected Linda Kabot for example ..." Oct 11, 09 4:03 PM

Westhampton Beach Police remain mum on ongoing internal investigation of incident

There are proper avenues of redress and legal steps one must take to safeguard ones rights leading up to arbitrating a grievance -- anyone aware of municipal governing knows that fact. So let's get past this nitpicking, ad nauseum, diatribe that has gone on here, please.

Isn't it time we stuck up for the police and let any individual grievances be handled by village management? Trying in this forum your own "beefs" with the police only serves to demoralize a whole cadre of talented, selfless hardworking men and women.

I'm more concerned with unfair attempts by some to tear apart and legally smear our local village police to save the skin of an errant town supervisor who (she will say) had the misfortune of getting arrested. " Oct 11, 09 4:20 PM

Quogue Village mayor pleads guilty to securities fraud

Yea, so unelected staff get all the "power" and can make decisions without recourse from the public? No thanks. I'd rather have a chance to throw the bums out when they are not responsive to their citizens.

BTW, Motz activities are UNRELATED to his job as Mayor. No one has accused him of any impropriety in office and annual budget reviews for Quogue have not revealed any untoward activity on the part of anyone in Quogue -- just for the record.

Finally, Motz will have to account for his conduct as a private citizen in his place of employment. What the citizens of Quogue choose to do is their business but it might be best if George Motz resigned from office. " Oct 14, 09 9:39 AM

Zwirn takes leave of absence for campaign

Shouldn't Ben Zwirn head back to his home in Nassau County? Do we really need him mucking up an already-terrible situation in East Hampton? Surely, the locals don't want to abdicate control of their town to someone from Up West?" Oct 14, 09 9:44 AM

ask your spouse, Mr Kabot" Oct 16, 09 2:50 PM

"Golfbuddy" shall we praise and exalt Linda Kabot (as you want) for the missing $ 10 million dollars she knew about before seeking to become Town Supervisor ? or maybe for the two years in office in which she has DONE NOTHING but mismanage the Town Budget and RAISE property taxes on all those who least can afford it (senior citizens, young families) ... ?

TO ALL VOTERS -- if you LOVE two years of Higher Property Taxes send Linda Kabot roses as a thank you and VOTE Linda Kabot back into office for two more years of the SAME mismanagement and secrecy ...

Quogue mayor resigns days after pleading guilty to felony fraud charge

George Motz is a wonderful, generous man who did a very dumb thing. Anyone who has known him over these last 40+ years will attest to his numerous acts of kindness, his genuine love for our community and his interest in safeguarding our way of life. He was a great Mayor.

George has accepted responsibility. He will be sentenced. Let us pray for him and for his family as they deal with the humiliation and the shame (especially residing in a small community). A hand of friendship instead of a spit in the eye might be more appropriate. " Oct 18, 09 4:22 PM

Throne-Holst missed campaign finance filing deadline

As someone highly supportive of a huge change on Election Day in management at Town Hall -- admittedly singing in the The Anybody But Kabot Choir -- Anna better get her own act together.

And yes, she may have a treasurer who is charged with administration of, and filing for, her campaign funds and expenses and that person may have broken faith in not doing what was expected. However, Anna is under obligation to get it right where Kabot has so gotten it wrong:

Fiscal Integrity and Taking Responsibility (as most parents teach their children) are sadly absent in Town Hall now. Don't ignore our plea.

We don't know Anna's financial acumen. We don't know Anna's management style. So when her campaign fails to meet its legal obligation -- and waits 20 days to correct the problem, that is a really bad omen.

Anna, if you want the job of managing a $ 80 million business -- our town --
you must step forward and reassure voters that simply because you are NOT Linda Kabot is not your only qualification for the town's highest office. How would you manage better what Kabot so mismanaged? How are you going to get finances in Town Hall squared away when the obligations associated with your meager campaign finances of $ 14,000 were overlooked?

Get out in front of this now, Anna, or those who look to you to get the town back on track will realize neither choice is a good one and they may stay home on Election Day. This is serious business Anna. Fix it with the public ASAP." Oct 22, 09 11:14 PM

Audit finds numerous errors in Southampton Town's accounting practices

More Kabot corruption ... to deny the taxpayers their right to see the audit report by FTI which was procured with taxpayer monies ... is illegal and the height of arrogance by the "ruling class" against the people who elected them to office. Unbelievable !

Do the voters "get it" ?

Kabot so wants re-election she will dictate that all Town Board members should hide behind "attorney client privilege" knowing if it be challenged in court by the time the court rules this hiding of the audit report illegal, the election is OVER !!!!!

WOW !!! arrogance by Kabot & Co. unlike anything voters have ever seen. Time to dump this dictator and her questionable ways. " Oct 27, 09 10:23 PM

Ask old timers, be they GOP or Democrat, no one recalls the corrupton, control or
ego driven reign of any monarch in Southampton like Nuzzi and Kabot. And tax their increases? The worst increases ... the envy of any liberal Democrat ... they would love 'em .... keeping these two promises voters more tax hikes in 2010.

Kabot needs to experience her own lay off ... like the 50 Southampton Town employees who lost jobs in 2009 !!!!" Oct 27, 09 10:32 PM

Kabot's court date is pushed back to December

The decision is easy for voters next Tuesday November 3rd -- why vote for a politician named Linda Kabot, whose leadership skills are sorely lacking, who saddles her Town with crippling tax increases and massive debt, who fails to take any responsibility and is accused of drunk driving and, while exercising her right to courtroom hocus pocus and a prolonged legal engagement, subjects taxpayers in a Town crippled by mismanagement to an on-going and distracting drama ...

Or do voters elect a clean slate to Town Hall where what we know is truly worse than what we do not know ... It is sad that Supervisor Kabot couldn't summon within herself the courage to do the right thing as Mayor Motz in Quogue has done.

I think voters will do the right thing next week." Oct 29, 09 2:52 PM

littleplains is exactly right.

When you are innocent, you do not refuse a test that will proclaim your innocence.

The court action was postponed so Linda's legal team might have additional time to dissect and tear apart the WHB police -- destroying police reputations is her only recourse. If she can destroy these officers of the law and throw into question their training, procedures etc. Kabot then changes the focus away from her own actions and thus, escapes legal responsibility for her DWI.

Does anyone really think the judge will declare she was not DWI ? If Linda Kabot gets off it will be on a legal technicality not because she was determined not to be DWI.

There should be zero toleration in all DWI situations. Ask local families forever suffering a tragic loss from a DWI driver.

Southampton Town employees protest board over planned layoffs

Linda Kabot makes the most vulnerable in our Town pay the price for their mismanagement ... these lowest paid employees should not be punished for Linda Kabots ignorance and failure to fix the budget ...

" Oct 29, 09 9:54 PM

I do not care about Anna ... what I care about is getting rid of a Town Supervisor unworthy of the job and so uneducated as to raise taxes and hurt our seniors ... do you people get it?

And if Anna does not improve things, we will go after her in two years ... are you listening Anna? " Oct 29, 09 9:56 PM

The Police Benevolent Association (PBA) realizes -- now and finally -- that Linda Kabot dislikes the police and is out to destroy individual reputations of our police officers ... see what she plans for the police in Westhampton Beach -- a wholesale indictment of training, procedures, police management -- her court strategy is ... if shes tears down the police, she hopes to be re-elected by the people -- even as her DWI and the awful example she holds is so disreputed ... Kabot's court date is pushed back to December

Ask former Riverhead Town Supervisor Joe Janoski who has been collecting "disability" from his elected job of Town Supervisor about the wonderful benefits of elected office.

Linda Kabot has plenty of access to Town staff as drivers (and has on occasion been seen using them) ... don't cry for her ... she's got plenty of benefits in the Town Supervisor job, golfbuddy." Oct 30, 09 11:00 AM

Sam and golbuddy and Linda Kabot are all crying crocodile tears ... ain't it easy (and misleading) to say these comments are just from "Democrats" when in truth so many of us are frustrated Republicans who are most troubled by the inept management of our Town by Linda Kabot, someone running as a Republican who disgraces the GOP banner!"
