Financial investigation unearths $3 million deficit in Southampton Town beach fund

Just because they hold the patent, doesn't mean there won't be generic knock-offs.

I seem to recall an aisle of white bags in the grocery store back in the eighties.

What was that word, again?

OH YEAH, GENERIC!" Apr 15, 10 3:56 PM

IRS says Southampton Town comptroller owes $650,000 in back taxes

One funny thing about NY, unlike other states who DO NOT tax necessities like clothing or shoes, our state does.

So, I guess that means it's not a real necessity, and I don't need to wear shoes, or clothing in public.

This country has become such a s***hole of corruption, greed, and avarice, that it would be a MIRACLE if we could clean it up in less than three generations." Apr 15, 10 4:07 PM

CO2 is tagged as culprit; Shellfish may be latest victims

Middle Eastern oil was created about 95 million years ago, when the planet was such a hothouse, the Artic Ocean looked more like the Sargasso Sea.

We have deep sea cores, and ice cores to correlate a rough idea of the relative CO2 content in the atmosphere, via geologic, and climatic record.

Now mind you, we have probably burnt a good 60% of the carbon that was trapped as oil in those anoxic oceans, and seas. Releasing the trapped carbon has apparently had an effect.

The first stage of a warmer planet is an increase in atmospheric mositure content. As we still have polar winters, this would relate to an increase in snowfall, and rainfall.

But, I could be wrong...

" Apr 20, 10 7:58 PM

As I recall, the "Little Ice Age" had alot to do with volcanism.

You need to remember that ocean currents keep Europe warm. Without those currents, it would be a deep freeze.

In 1816, there was no summer, due to the 1815 eruption of Tambora, in Indonesia. Sulfuric acid in the stratosphere reflects sunlight, and it was placed there in abundance." Apr 20, 10 8:13 PM

Let's remember that the polar regions are without a significant amount of sunlight for half the year." Apr 20, 10 8:21 PM

U.S. Census workers are still plugging away on the East End

It's more complex than that.

It's not the government, it's the people that RUN the government, and fail to regulate society, and our economy properly. Too many would rather line their own pockets at our expense, than actually make a difference.

Thank the stars for those that choose to be Public Servants, instead of politicians. There truly are too few of them, and it is somewhat our fault as well. A fickle lot indeed, the people are..." Apr 20, 10 10:30 PM

Sometimes circumstances do not permit instant change, which normally leads to the addiction to "TIG" (i.e., "total instant gratification", insert comma if necessary).

Being "courted" can mean" 1. We respect you, and expect your canidacy to help fix a desperate issue. 2. We see you, and by some clandestine arrangement, you have come to our attention. 3. We know you could be "in our pocket", and would like you for the position.

OR, 4, which I would hope for:

4. We see that you are fit candidates who could really clean up a BIG MESS. Would you come work for us, at the proper time?

Woman killed in motorcycle accident on Napeague stretch

Speak for yourself on that one. 19 and invincible? The HELL YOU SAY!

I have, for one, "sped safely". But I didn't do it forever, and looking back I can fortunately say I was only that reckless with "my own life", so to speak. NO RIDERS. I even recall this old dirtbag euphemism: "No lights. No doubt.".

I have to agree with Mrs.Sea, and this young man has an extremely heavy burden now, and shall for the rest of his life. It will change all those involved forever, and he, as well as these families may in time heal. And someday, he well may come to understand just what he has truly lost. I hope for the sake of all involved, he can.

This is a horrible, horrible lesson. And, nothing can change that. No (pause) arguments about the finer points of the law, no arguement about how much he loved her, no arguement about "what could have been". None of it can.

Give these people your heart, not rhetoric." May 28, 10 3:27 AM

Easy now, oh young republican.

I would ask that you walk a while in this other man's shoes. He could very well be curled up in ball, sobbing like a little boy who has lost his mother.

You have no idea what it it must be like to be him right now. In fact, I bet you don't EVER want to know what he feels like. I thought Hammurabi was a great guy, but his time has passed. We are allgedly "the most intelligent beings on the planet". We'll give you a few years to reflect on what you've done, while sequestered from society. I'm not sure about intelligence, but civility would tend to warrant we find a way to make him a functional, contributing member of society someday. We really shouldn't be paying for ALL his room and board. Which could be required, for, oh, say the next FIFTY years. Life can be long these days. I'd rather he was PAYING taxes, NOT INCARCERATED LIVING OFF OF THEM.

Unless of course, you'd just like to fry him now, Hammurabi..." May 28, 10 4:00 AM

I recall driving a Kenworth down David's La. one day, headed toward Mecox Bay. There's a sharp bend in the road, and there is foliage which prevents seeing oncoming traffic.

Picture that, as you come to the bend and very quickly have to brake for a bicyclist moving at a good clip coming at you head on, pedaling down the wrong side of the road on a blind turn.

That wasn't the first time I encountered a bicyclist traveling into oncoming traffic, and I'm sure it won't be the last. Good point, Funbeer." May 29, 10 12:01 PM
