Sportsmen Seek Voice Of Their Own

I'm sick of all those newbies I don't go to their home to tell them how to live.... Oh yeah they didn't like where they were either never content are they?" Feb 20, 11 6:20 PM

The Press News Group To Offer Premium Membership Subscriptions

I have read a book titled "Losing The News". To a point it scared me. I love holding the paper or a book in hand.
I have been reading the Press since 1945, every week. I used to llive on Jobs Lane across the street from the Press at the time. You can have no idea how limportant the paper is to me. So many times I want to take you to task because I catch mistakes made in reporting and spelling of places there on lthe East End.
I do not care for the new web site. It seems to be akward to me. The big complaint my husband and I have is the lack of names in the caption under the pictures. For goodness sake take the time to get all the names if you are going to print the picture. Hazel always made sure to give everyone their share of notoriety and "make sure it is spelled right"." Request For $70 Million Default Judgment Against Town Dismissed

I wonder why the Town hires an attorney "from away"? There must be some very smart lawyers right there in Southampton Town. I know why they hire outside labor help but lawyers? Sordi had a very lame excuse for not doing his job. Sordid come to mind." Mar 2, 11 2:52 PM

Some Second Homeowners Might Be Taxed Twice Over

Hey, did y'all get off topic or what? Y'all should long for the good old days when the truely rich and mannered folks came out for Memorial Day, spent the summer and left on Labor Day. they paid their taxes and to my knowledge never compalined. Never sent their kids (oops, children) to our schools either.
The rich did have a few rules of their own though, never report their escapades in the Southampton Press. Even when the too drunk couldn't make the turn on Pond Lane and went right into the drink. Never made the paper. But they paid their taxes. They were grateful to get out of the city and into the healthy sea air. They were usually polite to us locals. They called us "townies".
I am sticking to topic.... the second homeowner should pay his rightful share. When you buy/build a home don't you try to find out all your expected expenses first? They want the fire dept, the police dept yearround don't they? Or would they rather my sons stay home on a cold fridged winter night?" Mar 9, 11 4:04 PM

Ofcourse I meant the income tax they ride on NY highways to and from Conn. so they owe$$$$$$$$$$." Mar 9, 11 4:09 PM

Garden Club Plants Idea To Line Agawam Park With Cherry Trees

"The other eight would line the eastern perimeter near Pond Lane"?????
I thought Pond Lane was on the western side of Agawam Park. Has somebody moved things around in my absense?" Mar 12, 11 12:30 PM

Amen to that, Goldenrod. As to the North Sea Road area.... that would take some truely imaginative and knowledgeable thinking as well as $$$$$$$$$$$. Is the Garden Club up to that project? i hope so." Mar 19, 11 9:40 AM

William Berkoski Jr. Dies At 56; Services Announced

Our heart felt sympathies to Bill and Dottie. Not much else in life is worse than losing your own child. Please know our prayers are there for you and your family." Mar 19, 11 9:46 AM

Lindleys Packing Up 60 Years Of Montauk History

It seems to me that a lot of Concerned Citizens need to get involved in this situation. Sort of like Hilda did. I smells to high heaven to me. " Mar 26, 11 4:33 PM

Oh my goodness, i neglected to proof read! Of course I meant "IT" smells
I did not mean to make a funny about what is a serious case." Mar 26, 11 5:34 PM

Pollution In Local Bays Tied To Residential Development

"The only thing new is the history you haven't read." Harry Truman.
I always did like that man. I feel like deja vue. I remember a time back in the early 1960's when Suffolk Cty. outlawed the use of detergents. And the polution of the bays abated somewhat. But some folks went to Nassau Cty. to buy their detergents. Nobody wants to pay the high price for sewage treatment plants etc. but maybe that is the only course. " Mar 31, 11 4:49 PM

Peconic Land Trust Sells Sagaponack Farmland To Pikes

I think volunteering for one day is not going to show any one how much goes into farming. Actually farming for a living is the hardest work of all;out in the field all day with the sun beating down on you (don't tell me about a/c tractors which were not available in my day). Still farming is the greatest gamble of all time. Rain when it isn't needed, too much rain, not enough rain, drought and then rain brings nobs on the potato not a good product. On the other hand living on a farm and bringing up kids on a farm is pricless." Apr 7, 11 1:05 PM

Beachgoers Rail Against Napeague Lawsuit

I remember when Bud topping and his friends used their beach buggy to tow kids on surf boards (or something like that) on the beach, Every weekend we'd be down there having fun. " Apr 7, 11 1:22 PM

Doesn't the Dongan Patent (circa 1686) protect free access to Town water in East Hampton also? It does in Southampton Town. Of course the town has to designate the areas and it has taken some doing what with people selling and buying waterfront.
It is really tough on the residents who can trace their ancestry back to the 1600's in this part of Eastern Long Island. It is love of this part of the world in which one was born that keeps us here." Apr 7, 11 1:34 PM

So what?! that makes him different from you and me?" Apr 7, 11 4:36 PM

Superhero Movie Being Shot In Hampton Bays

Southampton Village To Rework Cherry Tree Idea After Opposition From Veterans

I too, am against too many trees on the Great Lawn. The cherry trees in DC? they ring a 'pond' and so not obstruct the view of the Memorials. Just so any reader thinks I have not any right in this I beg to differ. I have spent many more years there and running around the great lawn, and going wading in the shore line (before they put up fencing) than I have been away. Besides, now I am a "summer resident". I agree there are many other places in the Village commercial areas that need the help of the Garden Club membeers. " Apr 15, 11 6:01 PM

Friday Morning Blaze Destroys Water Mill Home; Homeowners Hope To Rebuild

I am so proud of the local fire fighters. They do not get paid wages for what they do; it is all volunteer. They take many classes to keep up their proficiency and it's all volunteer. Why do they do this? Because it's the thing to do? I think it is because they want to give back to the community and they know it keeps down the taxes. From the beginning in the 1890's the men of the villages recognized the need to protect their homes and businesses. So they banded together. If, along the way after the fire is out, the washdown is done, they have a few laughs and a slap on the back for a job well done, maybe a few beers too, well so be it. A big THANK YOU to them all. $43 Million Tear-Down Approved In Sagaponack

I agree on lthe trickle down economics thing and boy am I glad! as i have 3 sons in the area standing to benefit, a carpenter and 2 stone masons. Of course, they are the best in their business!! Yes sir even my two grandfathers worked for the Manhatten dollar. Since 1880 the family has been in the construction business.
So let them tear down re build, so what it is their money. I just wish the summer residents were a bit more polite like they used to be. And we didn't complain either. Just took their money all the way to our bank." Apr 27, 11 1:26 PM

Oddone Appeal Will Be Heard By Brooklyn Judges On Friday

I knew the Reister family, went to school with older brother, Larry. Knew the parents very well, Andrew was the kid brother who never caused any problems to his family. Larry and the parents are gone, and of course, now so is Andrew. Don't judge a book by it's cover? Judge a man by his actions. The amount of rage exhibited by the convicted man is undeniable. Killing someone with your bare hands? You are known by the company you keep? I'd be very suspicious of those golfers aka lawyers. I wonder what dirt is under their fingernails?" Apr 29, 11 2:42 PM

Offer To Plant Cherry Trees In Agawam Park Withdrawn

Realocal from Bridgehampton? Well I'm realocal from Southampton village. I lived on Jobs Lane and played in that park and I say Bill Frankenbach and other veterans are right. That many trees would detract from the Memorial. Actually the Village fathers and the Garden Club should put their energies to beautifying the major entrance to the Village on North Sea Road. The residents from Hillcrest are looking to the museum on the corner. That could use some help. People who have more knowl-edge in landscaping should make a appreciable effort to beautify that stretch of road all the way from County Rd. 39 down through Windmill Lane to Lake Agawam. " Apr 29, 11 2:54 PM

Watermillian, You use the words "their monument". Yes that's right it belongs to the locals of the Village of Southampton. you have the windmill in the middle of the hamlet and I don't remember anyone from SH village telling the local's in Watermill what to do on that green. You like the Cherry trees? well go on ldown there and look at them.

Tea Party Holds Third Annual Tax Day Protest In East Hampton

philathome, I agree with you. I got the biggest laugh with the fellow the pundits are calling "the darling rookie of the Republican party" none other than Marco Rubio of Florida. when it came time to caucus he went right to the Republicans and left the Tea Party holding ----. In case the news hadn't reached NY Tea Partiers dear Marco owes the Tea Party BIG TIME for his win.
The Tea Party needs to do more weeding and spading before they can be trusted. " May 3, 11 8:48 PM

You removed the response by fcmcmann? No matter what she said I am offended by the sly remark at the top of Mr. z's remark to her "Darlin------------------------" I'd like to chastize that boorish jerk. No wonder we ladies are fighting for equal rights.
The overseer of this sight won't even let us answer the uncouth offender." May 3, 11 9:04 PM

You guys who hate President Obama are nuts. Ok, we ALL have to admit that over the previous administration much good information was received. We can also admit that the technology has improved a million or so. And that's good. Can you even admit it took real nerve to sit in a safe comfortable room surrounded by compatriots and make the decision to go ln it with boots on the ground? This president and the rest of us Americans could have lost big time if a freak accident happened, if the men had not been finely trained. And Thenk God for the success of themission and for their safe return home." May 3, 11 9:20 PM

Scared Juror, Medical Evidence Slanted Jury Says Oddone Attorney In Appeal

That lower- than - a - snake should remain in jail forever! For someone like Odone I am only sorry that tax dollars have to be spent feeding and housing him until he does pass on lto his reward.
My feelings are for the family a young mother and two children without their anchor in this crazy world." May 10, 11 8:33 PM

Court Bans Sale Of Tax-Free Cigarettes By Tribes

what are you threatening? You are going to stop those extra purchases just because you can't buy illeagal ciggies? looking to duck paying the taxes? The rest of us law abiding citizrns pay for your addiction. You know as far as any real local is concerned you can go to New Jersey. The families who invaded my home town in the 1890's put out a booklet. In it they state that any unwanted publlicity would attract undesirable people from the Jersey Shore. This booklet was published privately." May 12, 11 12:22 PM

I wouldn't worry about sticking it to the shinnecocks. At the last I knew about the Indian living on the Reservation (now very high dollar property) they never have to pay U S or NYS taxes. " May 12, 11 12:26 PM

ReallityFirst you do make me laugh. Anything, tangiable items, made and sold on the Reservation is tax free. You see "made ON their property". Are you also one of those who do not want to pay taxes? Shame on you. And everyone of those folks claiming Indian parentage living in a beautiful spot that the Shinnecocks have should be grateful. They have the opportunity for a good public school education, the grants for their college education, taking advatage of every advance in living the life we all do in this 21st century and they complain they do not have enough? Lance Gumbs should be ashamed!
He's playing the system and living the good life." May 12, 11 12:40 PM

Ok Squeaky (160) two of my great grandparents came over from Ireland in the 1860's. one was a tailor working for the rich Lords.
I never claimed you, or anyone else, is responsible for what someone in the past did. I don't know where you are coming from. I happen to be interested in history. The libraries in the Hamptons are wonderful in the information they have on the shelves and the help available from the staff is phenomenal. You are not responsible for what any of your ancestors did... neither are you gaining any glory if you find out that you're related to King Charlamange!
Do any of you out there think I should not comment on what I have learned by delving into the history? Should I not say that a couple of my ancetors came over on the boat? A couple of them might have hatched from Machiavelli! I wish one of them gave me some Indian blood so I could live there on that beautiful pennisula. " May 12, 11 9:03 PM

I am not responsible for what some folks did in the past. Maybe I am resopnsible for what some kids said in 1948 in school, but the other stuff, not my fault, nor is it yours. since we do know about it we should look to correct the situation as we see it around us. Kinda hard to correct some of the stuff the elected officials are doing now. Nobody in this highly Republican area where I currently live will listen to me!" May 12, 11 9:10 PM

Head Start May Face Federal Budget Cuts Next Year

All of y'all out there need to wake up and see exactly just where this country is in the education field. What we have heard from the self serving oil men and those that support them, is unreal to me. generally speaking I'd say most of you have a GOOD eduction. Perhaps your children also. IF you do not fight for education for the generations now in kindergarten and the following grades then YOU are selling this country down the tubes. I am shocked at the level of intelligence south of the Mason/Dixon line. I am so lsick at the turn the WSJ is taking under the new ownership. On the other hand his mantra is "keep 'em DUMB so I can rule."" May 12, 11 9:25 PM
