Hults faces felony charges; probe's focus turns to supervisor's office

I do not understand why everyone is so happy to see Ted Hults being arrested. Did he steal anyone's money...no. Did he steal anyone's job...no. He followed orders and did what he thought was right, even if misguided. Anyone who knows Ted Hults knows he is one of the kindest decent human beings. So easy to throw stones maybe not as easy to accept the fact no one in East Hampton was willing or is willing to sacrifice to keep the town afloat. Having protest because you doctor copays might go up $5 give me a break...These things happen to public officials because the public can be unreasonable...give the guy his day and court before you string him up" Jun 11, 09 4:18 PM

You are assuming that Laura Molinari is 100% correct in her interpertation of the law. What if she is wrong or what if there are different view points. That is why we have a legal system that allows everyone their moment in court. Ted did not have an attorney with him so who knows what he signed and why. The only ones that benefitted were those who did not lose their jobs with the budget shortfalls. I'm not defending illegal or unethical actions. But truth is this adminstartion has saved jobs. Go elect Wilkenson I never met a Human Resource Director who did not know how to carve away fat from the job force. There are no simple answers just politics " Jun 12, 09 12:58 PM

Waiting game continues for McGintee

Sounds like the DA has a weak case. It was common knowledge Billy M assumed he could borrow from the preservation fund. He admitted it when the information came out. Maybe the DA is not so sure themselves when faced with the proposition of being embrassed by some competent counsel. Also sounds like Ted reconsidered after he lawyered up. The DA's office is a politcal office. It is not about chasing bad guys as much as it is about doing the things you need to do to move up to say AG or at least stay put. At the end of the day the town is caught up in the distraction and the Dems are expecting a landslide...At least Billy M with all his concerns is not drinking and driving his problems away..." Obama's speech to students will be shown at EH Middle School after uproar

I agree with suppose 2 do. MSNBC has been using the race card whenever someone disagrees with the Presidents agenda. I'm pro Obama but I'm also aware of this slippery sloop taking shape. In fact I think it will create more division and hate. No one likes to have their views minimized by being called ignorant or bigoted. Fact is most people do not listen to Glenn Beck and others unless the talking heads bring it up. Obama's speach was everything it needed to be. It enforced education especially when the job market is making everyone feel uncertain. Getting accepted into a good college is almost as hard as paying for it. The fact the President wants to reinforce this tidbit with kids is alright wiith me. Also calling on young students to think about their country was a nice change. But America is great becuase we debate. Debating might invoke passion but it does not need to be name calling. Let the Republicans shoot themselves without name calling or we might be listening to President Sarah Palin next time speaking with the kids and the Republicans telling us we are Misogynist" Sep 9, 09 1:32 PM

Waiting game continues for McGintee

It does seem odd there is no blogging for Ms. Kabot and her lawyers guided advice. She told the EastHampton Star she did not blow into breathalizer because she did not trust they would adminsiter the device correctly. How come the press does not even have that email and her lame accusations and denial. Something smells fishy " Sep 9, 09 1:45 PM

Your right about the town attorney approval but that only came out when they nabbed Ted. The whole case might rest on was that ever a fact or not. He said, she said. Also if they asked the town attorney it still is interpretation of the law that matters most. That is why they have appeals courts and more. But your point is well taken. I'm not sure how much pension two terms in office gets you but either way it does seem if the shortages were known in advance of the election the 100 vote difference that got him elected would most likely not have happened. So his two extra years in office are now with the Rudy and friends. Go Blue..." Sep 9, 09 4:19 PM

Board Watcher my uunderstanding is Molinari resigned because of the bond papers not the preservation money. But even if that is so I also understood other towns used the money and McGintee thought he could do the same thing. Lawyers are not perfect in their assetments. However if she did advice them and they ignored her it would explain why they are in the mess they are in now. Still at the end of the day the real problem is spending and making difficult cut backs. Until that happens we can throw all the dead weight overboard and the ship will still go down. " Sep 10, 09 7:27 AM

Supervisor Kabot will fight DWI charge, stay in race

Fact is how can the Town Supervisor act as if the local police department is fabricating DWI breath test results. This may be a good defense for the average citizen but not an elected town employee...supervisor no less. She is opening the door for every DWI attorney to argue the town fixes the test result as per the Supervisor herself. Bad choice on her part to not sober up before driving and another bad choice to call out the local police who she has direct input into with town budgets etc...Don't let the door hit you on the way out. But I still think Mr. Hamptons is onto something as well.... " Sep 10, 09 4:59 PM

Blue Cross is doing what the government does with medicare. They are trying to keep the cost down so your premiums don't go up. The Presidents plan without a public option means cost will explode. With a public option Southampton would be forced to control costs but insurance companies will go out of business and more people lose jobs and less taxes come in. There are no simple solutions but somebody needs to control the providers as well. Make the insurance companies take less profit and put oversight on the providers. Ever see what a hospital costs these days???" Sep 10, 09 5:36 PM

Supervisor Kabot will fight DWI charge, stay in race

Give me a break Publius you most be her attorney. She said on her email to the East Hampton Star she refused the test because she did not trust the cops mostly the supervisor in charge. So stop your crap with the coke bottle. Next about police abuse we all know about it but drunk driving is not like finding the kidnapper of the Lindenberg baby. Cops are not out to get the big cheese Ms. Linda K. No this is about a problem faced by many and admitted to by most. She is guilty and she needs to shut up or admit it. Emailing the star about her innocence is placing another nail in her coffin...and by the way why the star and not the press for her email...hoping nobody would know...Or is the press out to get her too...go blow into another coke bottle or try another defense" Sep 10, 09 7:34 PM

Oh Please her children are reading the blogs and the fact she refused a breath test means we should feel sorry she will lose her license for 6 months. Fact is we all need to be responsile and we all have short comings and make mistakes. That is not the point. The point is she is lying and blaming the cops. There is only one truth here and if she took the test we would not be having this discussion...because she would not be blaming it on anyone but herself...whats wrong with that...she made a mistake...try telling the truth..stop blaming the cops also she went for a ride to Westhampton to go check up on the success of the labor day events...gag me she was headed to a bar to get another drink...Doing it is the first crime, lying about it is the second and balming the cops is the third...three strikes your out" Sep 10, 09 10:01 PM

Golfbuddy East Hampton Star anyway I wish her the best I just don't like the blaming others. Too many people play victim when all they need to do is fess up. One DWI is not going to destroy anyones career. Everyone deserves forgiveness. I she learns her lesson and uses it for some good. " Sep 11, 09 7:16 AM

Hey Sam you do not like anyone voicing compliants about the newspapers policies as if it is a personal matter. Then you make all sorts of accusations about your ex-wife that could be liable. This is not about your ex-wife get over it she is gone move on with your life....this is about a newspaper that in it's current issue has blogs about McGintee and Ted Hults criminal issues suggesting they don't allow blogs about criminal issues. They created the conspiracy no one else. Glad they regrouped and saw the light. Maybe they did that because people voiced concerns in a publice forum like this blog. " Sep 11, 09 9:21 AM

WHBYankee if I were Joe Shaw I would be enjoying this. Any publicity is better then no publicity when you market a newspaper...ask Ann Coulter...No one is hanging Linda Kabot she is not a monster just maybe someone who stuggles with tellling the truth. If that does not bother you when she has say over a 170 million budget then your right to let it go. But I rather keep her in check then take a pass" Sep 11, 09 9:30 AM

yearrounder The public option is dead they do not have the votes. The Dems killed it themselves by not being able to control their own senators. 60 Dems means you do not need Republicans but they don't have all their own people onboard. With that said mandating coverage will add millions for insurance companies not a public option since there will be none. I never said I was for or against a public option. I said without a public option covering pre-ex and adding millions of people and charging it to the insurance companies. Means more claims which will be passed down in the form of higher premiums. The only way to control those new claims is to control the cost of care. So far they have no plan to do that. I'm not brainwashed nor do I work for Blue Cross I'm just paying attention to the details...." Sep 11, 09 10:24 AM

Supervisor Kabot will fight DWI charge, stay in race

Sam Obviously you and Ms Kabot are drinking buddies being stalked by the Southampton police so your ex-wife can continue to drink and drive. Sorry I did not understand your point since it must have been relevant to state law and the fact the Town Supervisor a public official unlike your ex wife gets a drunk driving charge and blames the police for harrasment. But thanks for setting me straight and thanks for the compliment." Sep 11, 09 11:15 AM

Back at you Sam you enjoy your weekend to...smile" Sep 11, 09 11:46 AM

JimmyB everyone is happy that Joe decided to open the blogs on this story. The point about forgiveness is well taken but before someone can recieve forgiveness they first need to ask for it. Ms.Kabot is not asking for forgivenss she is asking people to accept her version of the story. Only that version if true would mean the local police were consipiring against her. So now you have a story within a story. Then when you factor in that the press held back intitially it gets even more interesting. But at the end of the day we learn by listening to others and we blog because it is supposed to be fun and sometimes even enlighting. Thank you Joe Shaw for allowing this forum and doing what you do." Sep 11, 09 2:42 PM

Hi Bruce B it's called an interlock and with one DUI no...becuase she refused her license gets suspended though she might be able to get a hardship where she can drive back and forth to her town hall meetings. Then she will have to attend DUI class maybe a MAD class and pay higher rates for her car insurance....it's almost enough to make you want to drink...." Sep 11, 09 7:08 PM

dagdave GHI covers you for $183 per month with a $5800 deductible...but you can save the rest through an HSA. I voted for change but covering pre-ex around the coutnry and with all plans might be the best change we have....I love a good fight but truth is there are no simple answers..." Sep 11, 09 9:21 PM

Supervisor Kabot will fight DWI charge, stay in race

Privacy is not at issue here. Saying others did it so it's not equal justice. Would you accept that from your children? Pointing the finger and not taking full responsibility is what is at issue here. Remember Bill Clinton "I did not have sex with that woman". Politicians who lie should be held accountable. Presumed innocent is a court matter based on the theory the state needs to prove guilt. Ms. Kabot could have saved the state and taxpayer money by doing what so many others are asked to do and prove her innocence right on the spot. This is not about political preferences this is about the character of the people who run, seek and hold office. It's time we found leaders who really want to serve not just have power at any cost. This is an embarrassment an immediate admission of guilt would have stopped most of it. What happens in a court room has no relevance on public opinion. We are not sheep asking the government to dictate our beliefs. Do you believe deep down Ms. Kabot was not drinking? Or she refused so she could gain a legal advantage. Win or lose in court does not change anything. Being honest and forthright would have been a more refreshing change. Shame....but maybe like the Catholic Church we need to separate the good leaders from the bad....She will be gone and she has no one to blame but herself. Still I wish her the best.." Springs and East Hampton school districts at odds again over tuition

Sounds like the East Hampton Supervisor thinks this is a card game where you pay for your mistakes regardless of the facts. Nice guy to have educating our kids. Yet when they messed up the building contract they did not want to pay. Double standard another bum weilding power...get rid of him before he does anymore damage. He is impossible and arrogant and it is starting to sound all so familiar." Oct 14, 09 10:25 AM

Ad calls GOP candidate's personal finances into question

I think Wilkinson’s years of professional experience make him a qualified candidate. Why does that mean you have to vote the whole slate? East Hampton needs qualified people with different views. Total power corrupts look at Washington and still nothing good gets done. We need all the residents represented. By this action Mr. Stanzione should be looked at closely or we will have another hair dresser, school bookkeeper handling the town’s finances...nice people but not up to the job" Oct 16, 09 2:19 PM

Grand jury details financial disarray and disaster in East Hampton

The problem with East Hampton and other small towns is that everyone knows each other. Whenever an idea was passed around about cutbacks, townies would gang up on board members who would then retreat in fear. Maybe now that the cat's out of the bag someone will show the courage to act without fear of reprisal. Simple things like controlling healthcare costs should be addressed professionally. It is hard to be loved when the ship is sinking and your at the helm handing out candy bars. This town needed a change" Jun 23, 10 9:45 AM

Kabot's pre-trial hearing will continue next week

Linda Kabot is waisting the tax payers money once again. This lengthy stuff costs money more judges, more ADA's. From what I underatnd if you put the legal system through this and lose you pay a higher price in the form of consequences. If she is innocent I hope she wins. If she is guilty like I suspect when is enough enough own up and move on with your life" Jul 14, 10 10:49 AM

New Sag Harbor Teachers Contract Pays More But Bumps Up Health Care Contribution

The teachers on the East End make much more money than $40,000 and they have nothing to be ashamed of. If you believe in capitalism then you should accept unions as part of the overall structure. If you think teachers are making too much then maybe should ask for a raise or get another job... I would tell my kids to think about teaching since on Long Island it pays very well…since when is that a bad thing…This country will come out of the recession much faster when people stop living in fear and start enjoying life again…If taxes are too high here move to Florida you can get great deals on Real Estate low taxes and all…just my opinion and no I’m in sales not teaching" Dec 13, 10 1:54 PM
