Waldbaum's backs out of mural project in Westhampton Beach

We would be honored to pay the $400 for supplies. Still missing Nationals after all these years, where my mom used to buy me a match box car every other week. Contact the store if any of the direct parties are interested." Jul 28, 09 9:57 PM

Westhampton Beach ordinance impedes signage

With the advent of the internet, real estate signs are nearly obsolete. As a first time homebuyer,(currently in contract) we scouted the multiple listing services (on the internet) and asked our realtor to show us the homes we found appealing and could afford. On the other side of the spectrum, a perspective buyer looking for a million dollar plus home isn't going to drive around aimlessly looking for real estate signs. These buyers are going to work with a realtor to show them the homes that match their needs. Do realtors really believe a larger sign is going to sell a house?" Aug 4, 09 2:32 AM

Waldbaum's backs out of mural project in Westhampton Beach

Hey. assuming you talked to Paul or Ben, I haven't discussed it with them. We are involved with numerous charities, so it's not really water cooler talk. Anyways, just trying to help out. --- Chris Connolly" Aug 4, 09 8:01 PM

Oh, and a update.. No one has called." Aug 4, 09 8:03 PM

East End transportation study will cost millions less than originally expected

I'm glad this study cost 100 million less than originally planned. 147 million for a study about transportation seems a little excessesive though . Oh wait, thats just a crazy error in your headline. " Oct 5, 09 5:56 PM

East End still digging out after record snow

Measured 32" at the store without drifing, which is simply an incredible amount of snow. At our house on Riverdale, thank you to our neighbor who graciously plowed our road, which has still not been plowed by the town. Every side road off Wakeman in Hampton Bays from Palo Alto south hasn't been plowed once. In fact on Palo Alto the neighbors are shoveling the entire road by hand. Impressive! Just reporting the news, not passing judgement on the town, etc.." Dec 20, 09 5:30 PM

Maybe the town reads 27east? Thanks to all the dedicated highway workers and private plowers. Within 30 minutes of this post our road is clear. Coincidence? Who knows. Thanks again everyone for putting in the long hours to get our communities through this. " Dec 20, 09 6:22 PM

Whale beached in East Hampton survives first attempt at euthanization

I hate to be an armchair quarterback since my knowledge of whales is limited to my discovery channel viewing. The animal is going to die if left in it's current state. If it is dragged out to sea it will likely pass as well, but there is a very small chance it may live and swim away. Occams Razor says we at least give the former chance a shot. No? If this is something that can be attempted we would like to make a donation towards the funding of the attempt. Please call Chris at 631-288-322" Apr 7, 10 7:24 PM

Westhampton Beach business broken into; two others vandalized

Frank, we support our police force whole heartedly and completely, but I can't think of one business on Montauk hwy that has been here over 10 years that hasn't been the victim of a break in. I'm not taking sides, just sharing the truth. " Apr 20, 10 10:08 PM

Hamptons Online sues former publisher, seeking millions in damages

I have no idea of the lawsuit's merit, but I just wanted to thank Rob Florio and the Hamptons Online BBS for encouraging my interests in computers as well as my peers, many who work in the industry today. This bulletin board service predated the modern internet and hopefully will remain a part of history on the east end. I fondly remember the days of logging in on my 1200 bps modem 15 years ago and when they changed from ANSI to RIP Script....The stories I'll tell my grandchildren (lol). " May 13, 10 7:34 PM

Cochise... LOL... Didn't want to go driving on the beach and now you are saying my posts are fake..... Funny.. I didn't know you posted on here...We are stopping by " May 18, 10 9:44 PM

Rumor about attack in village is debunked by police

I don't have a horse in this race, but the amount of comments has inspired me to share a thought. Our garden center is going on its 35th anniversary. One of the things we learned early on, is that people would prefer to be served by someone they can communicate with. Everyone at Aspatuck is an American, whether born in New York or Puerto Rico.
Now we are forced to compete with other businesses, who use cheaper illegal labor. This puts us at a disadvantage cost wise, but we feel its the right thing to do. I believe everyone has a right to work and have no problems with people that hire undocumented workers, but for the people that do, there is a way to fight. Simple actions each day forward your cause further than anger and noise in the comments. Also for all the emotional posters out there, try to remember the golden rule. " Jul 1, 10 7:09 PM

Rumor about attack in village is debunked by police

To be clear, everyone is American Born..... I wsn't aware of E-verify, but our last new hire was 5 years ago. That's how we roll...... I've vacationed at my four Puerto Rican employees homes, in Ponce ( we call that vaca-verify)...
To be even further clear, we compete everyday and win, based on quality, honesty and ethics. Just don't ask me why my locally grown, organic herbs are 25 cents more than the next guy! " Jul 1, 10 7:39 PM

Thirty-Foot-Tall 'Walking Girl' Statue Causing A Stir In Westhampton

Well played Elise. I've actually shared your story on my own social media. I took a selfie for fun of me today in front of the statue ... The immediate response from a friend that lives 2000 miles away was,
"wait, don't you live in the the town where they spent 75 grand on prosecuting someone over a 6 foot ice cream cone. "

Westhampton Beach Firehouse Demolished

Confused here about how the article mentions demolition is "not expected to interfere with traffic on Dune Road" . For starters there is no traffic on dune road this time of year and firehouse is located on Sunset Avenue? Am I missing something?

Maryland Boulevard Morphs Into Scaryland Boulevard For Halloween

Just wanted to say that we think Maryland Blvd rocks. Our family lives a few blocks away and decided to take a drive around town to show our son some of the halloween decorations. It's all amateur stuff until you get to Maryland drive. From the free haunted houses that can be enjoyed by anyone on Halloween to nearly every resident getting into the spirit with awesome decorations we were thouroughly impressed. Wish we had driven down this road years ago. Maryland Drivers- We have no idea the whys or the hows but you've won halloween. Can't wait till next year. " Nov 4, 14 11:57 PM

Westhampton Beach Waldbaum's To Close Its Doors In September

Best part about this .. Nobody here realizes that "Lisa Loeb" (yup that actual Lisa Loeb.google it) is telling you she doesn't want to "STAY"... " Aug 19, 15 8:52 PM

Also.. our take from this little mom & pop that has existed for 39 years in WHB... Westhampton Beach is amazing, Local businesses are amazing. . Our current supermarket is not. WHB deserves a good supermarket. Wild By Nature would work well here. " Aug 19, 15 8:57 PM

Seriously.. What was that? I wonder if that was actually the true story here.. Did A&P really take over the lease and do absolutely nothing for nearly a decade? That's bad business.

Westhampton Beach Businesses Split Over Smorgasburg Food Expo Proposal

Our family owned our business which is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year. Over the past 4 decades we've donated $37,000 in "in kind" and cash donations to the Peconic Bay Medical Center (and Hospice and The Family Counseling Service of the Hampons) Our family was awarded "person of the year" four years ago... Our owner was also president of the chamber of commerce for multiple years. I was married at St. Marks Church. My son was born at Southampton Hospital. I went to church school with the Kanas family .... So four years in a row the "D Rated" Peconic Bay Medical center steals one of our busiest weekends of the year by selling flowers and plants on the great lawn this weekend.. Seems like the same situation these other local business people are about to go through. just..... sayin....

^Hamptons.. For us. We are on Montauk Highway which is not part of the walking district so this event would not effect us either way... I will say this; historically things like the restrictive farmers market have showed little to no benefit for main street merchants. They seem to provide a destination event and provide little, to no ancillary sales to brick and mortar merchants. For my main street merchant friends ; you have better data if these events actually provide you with additional business (I hope they do!) . Regarding, food truck/ food expos events... I'm personally always a fan and they are something I would attend; But I'm not sure the promotion actually provides additional commerce... I'm reminded of the "industrial airport" expansion... They promised movie productions and tech companies and ended up with air conditioning and tile companies filling the industrial units.

Immigration Forum Focuses On Industries' Need For Foreign Workers For Seasonal Farm, Service Jobs

Just a quick thought about this.We would love to hire 15-20 year old locals to work at our 45 year old garden center in a front line position including deliveries and loading customers cars with pay beginning at $14.50. We have advertised this for years. We never get any responses. Regarding our long time employees; everyone including are landscape division is an American citizen which we think is great because the quality, expertise and knowledge they provide is worth it. But, it also forces us to pay much higher wages then the "landscaper with a truck".. Unfortunately many consumers value price over quality which put it's us a competitive disadvantage in many ways. Quogue Village Board Amends Code To Prohibit Commercial Vehicles From Parking On Narrow Roads

As the (45 years! thanks for the support) longest family owned garden center and landscaping company in the area, we fully support this law . Our business is to make our customers lives better and beautify their homes. We would never want one of our vehicles potentially causing an accident because it's blocking visibility.

That being said. " Jeannette Obser said the rules would become evident once enforced. “I think it’s more effective just to put tickets on their vehicles,” she said"

Is that even legal or fair to start ticketing vehicles without signage indicating what they are doing is illegal? Is that how we help small family owned businesses succeed in a seasonal community?... The comment just comes off mean spirited to me. I have a good neighbor solution for you though. Just drop off a ream of flyers to our store indicating the new law and I'll distribute them to all of the businesses in our industry.

We all know each other personally and are neighbors. Let's work together! " Jan 25, 19 11:35 PM
