Bishop will vote yes on health care reform bill

The government is going to REGULATE private insurance companies whose job it is to make a profit, not provide you quality health care. I am so amazed that you tea-partiers would stand up for a freaking corporation whose job it is to steal you blind! You are the tool of corporate America and the best think is, you don't even realize it. " Mar 20, 10 1:26 PM

HAH! This is the first of many battles you neocons will lose! Long live the liberals!" Mar 20, 10 1:27 PM

President signs historic health care legislation into law with Bishop's support

I beg to differ, razza, I also pay for my insurance out of pocket - it costs me about the same for Aetna (I used to pay the same for Blue Cross) $1,200/month for my family or upwards of $15,000 a year. I also have a co-pay. And I am not the only one. Everyone I know that is self employed pays almost exactly what I do, some even more.

The plans available for the self employed would save me no more than $200/month if I qualified. " Mar 24, 10 4:31 PM

Levy switches parties, announces run for governor

Hey ICE, I see not tantrum in that post you're referring tom but I do see one in yours.. Levy can be whatever the h-- he wants but you think it is sensible since he will lose as democrat for him to switch parties? Do you tell your child that if his little league team is losing he should pick a new team? In case you have not noticed, there are HUGE differences between republicans and democrats so anyone who switches party affiliation just to win an election is clearly someone lacking the courage of his convictions. " Mar 25, 10 8:33 AM

Nonsense. Like someone else said, if he is not about party, then why declare a party at all. He is a political opportunist. Nothing more, but let him do what he likes, he has as much chance of beating Cuomo as bigfresh does" Mar 28, 10 1:28 PM

Math program at heart of turmoil in Tuckahoe

Yes, their should be an investigation. An investigation into how the school board abused their power and allowed their child's poor performance in math to dictate policy for an entire school. This article makes it very clear that this whole issue was about Grindle and Grimaldi and their unholy obsession to avenge their childrens' test scores.

Grimaldi hand picked Grindle to continue her misguided policies and then Grindle hand-picked Riccardi to be her puppet. Ask yourself this - why is Grindle so against a vote that would expand the board if Riccardi is not running and Grindle herself can run again if she chooses? Yeah, let's investigate this and the way they treated the math teacher referred to in this story and then let's fight for more representation so that this type of abuse never happens again." Apr 1, 10 8:25 AM

If I googled Rozzi and came up with this board what I would see is two or three "vindictive whiners" like yourself whose kids performed poorly in math. I would see the story of a school board gone bad, a school board supported by a vocal minority. Yeah, I don't like grindle, grimaldi and riccardi because they are bad for the school. Why don't you address some of the terrible things they've done? Rozzi was loved by a majority of teachers and parents while grimaldi's exit was met with applause and relief.

Speaking for myself, if my kid has suffered academically since Mr. McCarthy took over it is because a vindictive and spiteful board president forced out the old super to satisfy her own vengeance and now she wants to cut all assistant teachers to make up for the extra monies spent on things like buying properties that are too expensive to use, paying an interim superintendent $750/day while still having to pay the full contract for the old super, giving Ed Joseph's an undeserved $40,000 raise and spending an extra 20 grand or more to split the super and principal positions? Wake up! You act as if every kid to graduate Tuckahoe in the last three years is suffering academically and it is simply not true. In fact, how many Tuckahoe kids are now in the top of their class at Southampton and other high schools? Or do they not suit your argument? Once riccardi is gone we can begin to restore a sense of dignity, decency, and responsibility to our board and our district." Apr 6, 10 8:20 AM

Please back up you assertion regarding a decline in test scores with actual proof. If you are unable to do so then you should recant. Very irresponsible of you, Sharon." Apr 7, 10 3:04 PM

Those scores show a number of INCREASES over the last few years. Your statement is NOT valid. I have commented on Grindle's behavior and actions witnessed by many - no backup necessary. You've been following for more than a dozen years? Sorry, Theresa, but you are cherry picking. "You people" need to stop lying." Apr 8, 10 10:38 AM

IRS says Southampton Town comptroller owes $650,000 in back taxes

William Gale: "[T]axes are literally at their lowest in decades." CBS News reported on April 15 that "taxes are at their lowest levels in 60 years, according to William Gale, co-director of the Tax Policy Center and director of the Retirement Security Project at the Brookings Institution." CBS News further reported:

"The relation between what is said in the tax debate and what is true about tax policy is often quite tenuous," Gale told Hotsheet. "The rise of the Tea Party at at time when taxes are literally at their lowest in decades is really hard to understand."

And no matter how much you scream an yell, 27dan, hate, fear and ignorance are still hate, fear and ignorance. You know who blames immigration for all ills of our society? Cowards. I love it when the right uses Reagan as a symbol of all they believe in without having understanding of exactly what the man was all about. I am no fan of Reagan, but maybe you should listen to what he had to say about immigration:

As Reagan biographer Lou Cannon points out in this book (pg. 119), Reagan proposed a treaty allowing for full freedom of movement for all workers throughout North America in his November 1979 speech announcing his candidacy for the presidency. As early as 1952 - at a time when US immigration policy was still governed by the highly restrictive Immigration Act of 1924 - Reagan gave a speech embracing nearly unlimited immigration:

" I . . . have thought of America as a place in the divine scheme of things that was set aside as a promised land . . . [A]nd the price of admission was very simple . . . Any place in the world and any person from these places; any person with the courage, with the desire to tear up their roots, to strive for freedom, to attempt and dare to live in a strange and foreign place, to travel halfway across the world was welcome here . . . I believe that God in shedding his grace on this country has always in this divine scheme of things kept an eye on our land and guided it as a promised land for these people. "" May 12, 10 1:39 PM

School taxes are paid for by residents. If a child goes to a school that means his parents live in the district and either own or rent and have a lease. Therefore, they are contributing to property taxes, either directly or because they pay rent to landlords who, in turn, pay property taxes. Please explain how that is a free ride?
