Southampton Town bracing for stingy 2011 budget

Comments like Highhatsizes', who doesn't even identify him/herself serve no purpose. Most residents of this great Town appreciate and support the members of the PBA. The taxes one pays for the Police Department are only a fraction of what you would pay if you lived in the Police District of Suffolk County. That is a Fact! In addition, the taxes one pays for Town Services is one of the lowest on Long Island. That is a FACT! The taxes we pay for Education is one the HIGHEST on Long Island. That is a FACT! The Town Board has no control over those taxes, we the residents do to some extent.

When you compare the Police tax to those of Fire Districts, in some cases the Fire District Taxes are more. When you consider that the Fire Districts are a volunteer service with some districts having a few employees, the Police Tax is way under budget. That is a FACT.

It is a FACT, that Southampton Town has grown by residents faster than the Police Department has grown in size. It is also a FACT, that the Police Department contintues to have only 2-3 cars east of the canal. It is a FACT, that Hampton Bays still only has 1-2 Police Cars. It is a FACT, that the Southampton Town Police Officers perform more work per Officer than anyother Police Department. It is a FACT, that the Taxpayers get more for their money from Southampton Town Police Officers, then other Police Districts.

Each year, the Police Department makes public the Annual Report of the Southampton Town Police Department. Every Resident, should ask the Town for this report. It is a true eye opener. The Men and Women of the Southampton Town PBA are truly the finest of the Law Enforcement Profession and I would defend them to the fulliest as do most of the residents of this Great Town.

So the what are the answers to a this years budget requests? How is the Town Board going to generate new revenue? How is the Town going to keep "Town Taxes" minimal?

The Town should take all ideas from residents, employees and department heads into consideration. But the suggestions should come from those members of society that want to offer reasonable suggestions and not from some one-sided "Damn the Police Attitude" individual.
