Supervisor Kabot will fight DWI charge, stay in race

First and foremost, Drinking and driving and the consequences that follow are not a private matter. They are a public matter, a public safety matter, and a public health matter. Second, refusing to blow into a breathalizer, is only done when the person knows they are guilty, and more than likely trying to avoid an aggravated dwi charge (ie blood/alcohol level above .18). Third, claiming to fight the charge vigorously, clearly shows that our town supervisor has no respect for her police department, the procedures they follow, or the laws of our land. She should not be drinking period, when she is driving, period. Fourth, how can the leader of our town, be held to anything but the highest standards of ethical, moral, and legal behavior. Not admitting guilt compounds her problems, and lends to the denial that many have about drinking, driving, and potential alcholism. 65% of all first time dwi offenders are alcoholics. 95% of second dwi offenders are alcoholics. If she is suffering from the disease of alcoholism, she needs to get help for her and her family. She cannot remain the leader of our town, if her thinking, judgement, emotions, and behaviors are distorted by the disease of alcholism. If she is not an alcoholic, then she had made the most selfish of decisions to drive drunk, disregarding the safety of the public she serves, the well being of her family, and the consequences that effect the very public she serves. Again, this type of self-absorbed, careless person cannot remain the leader of our town.Drinking and driving is one of the most violent and abhorrent crimes next to murder, rape and child abuse. Many will say she made a mistake, used bad judgement, etc. Seventeen year old kids do this. 41 year old, leaders, cannot and should not be allowed to make mistakes that result in the murder of members of the community. This was not a mistake, but either a by product of alcholism or a decision that "I come first" regardless of the consequences of my actions may have on others. There cannot be a second chance, or allowing the legal process to work itself through this crime. She must resign and take care of herself. Compassion is holding someone one hundred percent accountable for their decisions, and protecting the public from those who chose to engage in reckless and potentially murderous behavior.
A staunch compassionate conservative and republican." Sep 10, 09 3:50 PM

Health care reform passes House with Bishop's blessing

Is it not odd, that this plan does not take place for 3 or more years from now. Yet we will be taxing from day one to fund this plan. If there was an national health care emergency, should not this plan start tomorrow. This is a farce. This is not about health care at all, but amount shifting power and control to the government, period. Government administration of any program, ie health care, banking, housing ,etc is never, never about serving the people, It is about controlling the people. Government programs are never about serving the people, they are about the program itself, and the colleagues that benefit from the monies attached to the program.. Wake up, our forefathers who wrote our constitution, wrote it to protect the people from politicians just like themselves. They knew, that even with their good intentions and wisdom, that absolute power corrupts. Stop handing over our liberties to government. Government control of health care, our banks, our auto industry, our housing industry is just that, CONTROL.. of the PEOPLE. There is an old saying "Give a man a fish (government programs) and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish(liberty) and he eats for a lifetime" Nov 14, 09 3:37 PM

Defense seeks mistrial; Judge rejects motion

Mr. Oddone, chose to drink, chose to get on the table, chose not to listen to security in a private establishment, chose to put his hands/arm around the neck of security, chose not to let go.. murder ,second degree... as opposed to millions of people who that night chose not do drink, not to get up on a table, not to strangle anyone... regardless of what Mr. Oddone was FEELLING.. he chose behaviors and now needs to pay the consequences of his chosen behaviors...." Dec 7, 09 8:40 AM

Jury deliberations continue in Oddone murder trial

Oddone was FEELLING.. he chose behaviors and now needs to pay the consequences of his chosen behaviors.... " Dec 7, 09 8:41 AM

Seventh day of deliberations ends with no verdict in Oddone case

There was no altercation. There was a bouncer working for a private establshment who told a drunk to get off the table, the drunk refused, and the bouncer removed him from the table. Again, the drunk, who is now a murderer, chose to drink ,chose to get on the table, chose to put his hands/arms around another human being ,and chose not to let go.. therefore he is a murderer. Might have been a nice guy prior, but now is a murderer. This is what happens when you choose to drink in excess... " Dec 8, 09 3:29 PM

Why would anyone want to see Oddone get anything less than the maximum consequence for his decision and behaviors. He murdered another human being who was doing his job.. Whether or not Reister did his job well or not, is irrelevent.. You dont murder the saleswoman at MACY's for not doing an excellent job. Oddone chose to get drunk ,chose to get on a table, chose not to get off the table when told to do so, chose to strangle another human being, and chose not to let go, and chose to run away like a murderous coward.. He gave up at that moment any entitlement to compassion or mercy.. He needs to go away for as long as possible... " Dec 11, 09 9:25 AM

Deliberations in Oddone trial resume Monday with testimony reread to jury

Unbelievable.. Oddone obviously has a jury of his peers, emotional and reactionary.. Behavior surrounding the murder of Mr. Reister is clear.. drinking on behalf of oddone.. dancing on tables by Oddone, choosing not to get off the table after being told do so by Oddone, Oddone choosing to strangle Reister, Oddone choosing not to let go of Reister, Oddone choosing to flee the scene.. All chosen behaviors of a murderer.. whether he was a punk or a nice guy prior to the incident does not change what he did during the incident... he is a murderer, and hopefully justice will be served...now or later" Dec 12, 09 12:43 PM

Suffolk County will stop using East End trailers to house homeless sex offenders

Simple solution. GPS Ankle bracelets... with alarms that go off if they are within the designated restricted areas.. Can definately be monitored for less that 90 dollars a day... its not so important to forbid them from living in certain areas as it is to know exactly where they are at any time... We have the technology to monitor, but we dont have the will... yet we love to yell and scream after they offend again... which they do...

" Jan 19, 10 7:07 PM

I personally have no problem with adding the taser, but the leftists will go nuts.. remember when we commit a crime upon society, society has a right to restrict and remove some of our rights.. the gps bracelet works fine for those on house arrest.. if its good enough for white collar felons.. its sure good enough for societal predators. The average pedaphile with offend upwards of 300 times in a lifetime..." Jan 22, 10 3:11 PM

Turmoil continues in Tuckahoe; commissioner will decide fate of school board

You are obviously a religious bigot. Perfect example of someone who continues to suffer from the battering and abuses of their past. Love and compassion is about responsibility and doing the right thing even when persecuted. Inner peace is about being honest with one self in the presence of God, regardless of what others are saying or doing. You confuse anger with passion and assertion. My statements are clear, directed and on point. They are not blanket statements of the school district, staff or parents. Emotions are not disturbing. What one chooses to do with their emotions can be. Get some help for your unresolved emotional issues instead of projecting them onto me. Then maybe we can have a dialogue based on intelligence ,reason, fact and the real issues at hand. You remind me of the person I had to tell to shut up at the meeting. Someone who cannot handle differences of opinion, does not respect the rules of order (I had the floor per the boards acknowledgement) and has to be confronted with assertion to put her back in her cage." Feb 11, 10 2:09 PM

WOW.... the mob really doesnt get it... Wake up...We all have a say, past and present parents, and all tax payers...more representation and the other word transparency that keeps getting thrown around, simply means,, more people who have fallen in line with the mob mentality thinking...or should I say... lack of critical and indvidual thinking...perhaps you should read the consititution, and understand the meaning of representative democracy, duly elected, and limited government. Our board is responsible for three things,, the hiring and firing of a superindendant, fidicuiary responsiblity to the tax payer and their money, and assurance that the superindendant is adhering to the curriculum standards set forth by state and federal government. That is what two of the three board members are attempting to do... It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man (woman) in argument... however.. The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is. (not my original words...look them up)" Feb 11, 10 2:42 PM

Obviously the press is choosing to censor and supress opinion. Not unlike the few groupies who do not want to hear the other side of the story. A story of professional misconduct, power grabs, and a disregard for the law or constitution. Those voters and parents who want to have a logical conversation and do some due diligence regarding the solutions to the issues of tuckahoe, and to explore the reasons behind and the impact of abruptly changing the charter of Tuckahoe and the ramifications on our taxes, school, community, etc.. To all the moms, and ladies of Tuckahoe... I am not trying to insult your gender... I am treating you as my contemporary, my equal, equal intellect, equal abilities, equal say... thus far I have not heard anyone say one thing that disputes the facts that I have presented here. The facts about certain board members behavior, board decisions ,curriculum, and superintendent issues, etc.. All I have seen, is attacks on my style, my delivery.. etc.. However, you are all stuck in emotion...you can heckle, cry, interrupt, disregard the board chairman’s authority, etc, and that’s ok.?.. We vote people to represent us, we are a representative democracy... that means we do not have a vote on every single issue, our representatives do.. that also means we don’t attempt a coup d’état or petition every single time a decision doesn’t go our way... we vote new representatives in... ironically all three candidates have run unopposed in the last three elections... so where is the commitment to change... there is none... you want to whine and complain... fine... but that does not change the facts...there are real questions about contract awards, curriculum-by the way where is it., policies and procedures, superintendent decisions, power grabs, etc... There are solutions...call me 516-316-4303 to discuss the truth, engage in rational thought, and commit to solutions..." Feb 12, 10 8:44 AM

2. Study the feasiblity of consolidating with Southampton Union Free
3. Assure that a Superindendant and Principal focus on their specific duties
4. Assure Board Fidicuiary Responsibilty is being adhered to
5. Prevent any change of charter without proper studies, and defined purpose and clarity.
6. To assure no further increase of our school taxes for non essential services, agendas, or restructuring
7. State investigation into the operation, procedures, contracts, curriculum of Tuckahoe." Feb 12, 10 9:45 AM

Revised original posting approved by Web Editor
Wake up Tuckahoe or say Good Night.
Once again, the mob mentalities of the chronic complainers at Tuckahoe are attempting to remove a duly elected board and reverse administrative decisions that do not meet their selfish agendas. All of this driven by a rogue board member, who for the first time in many years does not have control over his kingdom called Tuckahoe. After 100 years as a Common School District, a few want to force a change in the charter, add more board members (where will they come from I wonder?), erase the history of the school and usurp the authority of the current board members whose only agenda is to restore honesty, integrity, and order to a district that has been abused and manipulated by its former superintendent.

The Tuckahoe voter and taxpayer needs to wake up and take a look at what the impact will be to our school, community and inevitably our taxes. Do not allow a few to ram down our throats an overnight change in the corporate structure of Tuckahoe that will impact us for decades to come. This attempt to change is being sparked by high emotion and anger, and has not been thought through.

There are only two legitimate reasons for changing to a union free school district. If the purpose is to consolidate with Southampton, then this should be studied. Hundreds of thousands of dollars would be saved on transportation and tuition, not to mention that the middle school would be able to implement the proper curriculums for high school preparation. The second purpose would be to add a high school, which is not economically feasible. The petition submitted by these 30 or so people refers to one regulation amongst hundreds within Article 31 of NYS Education law. Part 1522 describes the procedure for the event to formally change the charter. It does not describe the process, which is significant and should require a feasibility study, fiscal analysis including potential tax ramifications, ongoing discussion with the Commissioner of the NYS Department of Education. Most importantly, the purpose of the charter change needs to be clearly specified in detail.

Reasons to change the charter as mentioned in the Southampton Press are more nefarious, like providing for more representation on the board. The purpose, function and process of electing this board are misunderstood. The last time a school district attempted to change the charter for the purpose of adding more board members was in 1968, and the commissioner of education denied it. In the past 20 years there have been fewer than 5 contested elections in Tuckahoe, and two of them have been when an incumbent decided not to run. This leads one to conclude that there is no overwhelming concern with community representation on the board. The easiest way to bring on new representation is for board members to campaign on a promise of not being lifelong board members. Twenty plus years is ridiculous and leads to controlling and rigid thinking, and power hungry leaders.

Another justification to create a union free school district is that Tuckahoe is the largest Common School District in New York. This is misleading and disingenuous. It has always been the largest Common School in New York State. Tuckahoe has had no legitimate increase in census for years, and in fact many parents have been pulling their children out of the school and tuitioning them to other public or private schools.

So why does this mob want to change to a union free school? To remove the only two board members in years that are committed enough to hold people accountable, so that a new board can be seated, almost through a coup d'état, to reverse prior decisions, regarding the former superintendent and her positions. The board must know that it cannot hire back the superintendent without making themselves culpable and liable.. I am confident, like many severance agreements, there was a no re-hire clause. Some say they want more representation and transparency on the board. It sure seems like this means more people who agree with one particular board member all the time, and push through only his agenda. Therefore, let’s not say Good Night to Tuckahoe but instead move forward with a commitment to methodically define, study, and assure the feasibility of any charter change. Please learn more about the lack of moral clarity and questionable character of this rogue board member and his lynch mob who have convinced a handful of misguided voters to forward their personal agenda.

Bridget Fleming wins vacant Southampton Town Board seat

Regardless of the party affiliation.. our local government should be focused on spending as little money as possible, while maintaining the quality of life that our community has come to expect..There should absolutely be a spending freeze across the board until we are through this financial crisis.. which will probably take us 5 years or so to wade through... our government is not here to serve us... (ironically with our money).. but to assure that basic laws and regulations are adhered to so that we can live with our family's comfortably, safely, while prosering in our business and work endeavors. Keep our streets free of all types of garbage, plow our roads when needed, police our community in a minimal way to keep the drunks off the street, the drug dealers out of our neighborhoods, the offenders away from our kids, and finally to provide an atmosphere for small businesses to prosper, while our neighborhoods maintain the character that makes our community desirable. Other than that we should not hear from local government at all..." Mar 11, 10 1:33 PM

Bishop will vote yes on health care reform bill

Sounds like our congressman either got a ride on Air Force one or was smacked around by Pelosi... What a shame... Government controlled health care is a disaster worldwide.. welcome to mediocrity, socialism, and the end of America as the greatest nation on earth..." Mar 19, 10 4:30 PM

Welcome to the United Socialist States of America. Not only will corporate taxes go up.. but every single one of us will be paying for this disaster through the nose. Upwards of 16 million people will be dumped on to medicaid rolls. Medicaid is paid 50% by the Feds, 25% by the states and 25% by the counties.. if anyone is paying attention new york state is broke, suffolk county is in a financial hole.. so guess what our property taxes, sales taxes and state income taxes will be going up to fund this montster. BISHOP NEEDS TO BE VOTED OUT OF OFFICE FOR BETRAYING US" Mar 22, 10 8:00 AM

This bill will not control the cost of healthcare ,but futher shift the cost to the taypayer as we spread around the expenses of the uninsured. The real cost of health care is primarily due to the treatment of chronic conditions, most caused by irresponsible behavior, smoking, drinking, drugging, overeating, lack of exercise, etc. Ironically many of these people are in the pool of the uninsured as well, further escalating the cost which will be incurred by us all. If you really want to fix the problem, people must be held accountable for their behaviors.. the average smoker smokes 1.5 packs a day, thats about $11 a day... $330 a month.. that would pay for their health care... this is about priorities... not once again ,bailing out those who do not want to take responsibility for their behaviors... Its absolutely amazing the the producers need to keep producing more to then be forced to give more of their earnings to the government to be used by those with zero liability in the game.. VOTE BISHOP OUT HE HAS BETRAYED US, HIS RELIGION, and OUR COUNTRY" Mar 23, 10 11:17 AM

Stony Brook University will announce drastic cuts to Stony Brook Southampton

Mr. Z. Ayn Rand believed in objectivism, character, and earning your way through life. The problem with the derivative crisis and other past and future crisis is human greed, human evil, and human immorality. You cannot regulate human morality by government. In fact, government in collusion with a small handful of corporations led to the current fiscal crisis. One might call it crony capitalism, which is all about staying in power. God knows more regulations will not help, as it will further stifle those of us who are law abiding, while still allowing the thieves both in office and in corporations to run away with our money." Apr 7, 10 3:57 PM

Mr. Z..Alan Greenspan’s entire tenure at the Federal Reserve was one devoted to distorting market outcomes in the pervasively controlled financial markets, including the mortgage market. The Fed by its nature wields enormous power over the market as it dictates the money supply and interest rates, which in turn determine lending, borrowing, and bank leverage throughout the economy. Early in Greenspan’s tenure, some expected the onetime opponent of the Fed and supporter of a gold standard to minimize the Fed’s distortion of markets. Instead, Greenspan became our Manipulator-in-Chief, repeatedly inflating the money supply and artificially lowering interest rates to allegedly magnify prosperity. Further, he voiced no substantial opposition to related market-distorters such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (which incentivized lenders to make trillions in loans that they wouldn’t have made on a free market) and the cartel of government-supported rating agencies (whose absurd models gave AAA ratings to mortgage-backed securities). You see, our regulators new exactly what was going on ,but refused to change course... Emperor with no clothes syndrome.. More imporantly, why is no one question why Lavalle and his chronies used 35 million of tax payor money to buy a piece of property, and then spend an additional 35 million to upgrade it. This school had a 30 history of being in the red (with tuition being 4x that of Stony Brook)as a private institution with Tim Bishop serving as the provost. The state is broke, the feds are broke, and its time to stop spending. Maybe we will all realize that government at any level is not here to provide and serve us... they sure have proven they cant do it well anyway...." Apr 8, 10 8:41 AM

Officials want to use Southampton Town's Community Preservation Fund to save Stony Brook Southampton

Are we out of our minds....Thiele and Lavalle bamboozled the community by using taxpayor money to purchase a failing private college for the total tune of more than $70 million of taypayer money... and now to correct their mistake, we are going to use CPF taxpayer funds and probably float a bond, also paid for by the taxpayer, to fix the failed purchase.. Sounds like a local bail out... We need to stop spending money....the new President of Stony Brook is correct in saying we have to live within our means... period... Government needs to learn how to do that, and we the sucker taxpayer have to stop enabling government....and vote out any politician who increases spending..." Apr 23, 10 8:57 AM

Southampton Hospital / Peconic Health Systemhas plans to move.. probably the Elks Club property. Why not discuss with them the possiblity of using the facilities on campus.. maybe we could provide housing for nurses, nursing students, medical residents via the dorms. Possilbly becoming a state of the art teaching hospital... " Apr 23, 10 1:56 PM

Thiele: Stony Brook rejects idea of maintaining residential campus at Southampton

Waffling Thiele and Which Way is the Wind Blowing Lavalle are just trying to cover up their ridiculous deal, that they facilitated, to purchase the Southampton campus in the first place. This site is not economically feasible, without a large endowment attached to it... LIU never broke even with this campus... Lets stop pretending... there is no CPF money that can be used to purchase development rights...this is just another political dog and pony show that Lavalle and Thiele are engaging in to show their constituents that "see we really tried to save the campus" ... lets not save their jobs during the next election and vote the bums out." May 7, 10 9:59 AM

At the present time... there is no money to fund this project.. The state is broke, and virtually bankrupt...The best benefit to the public is for the state to stop spending our money... especially on campus purchases that we cannot afford." May 7, 10 10:43 AM

Westhampton Beach man receives GOP nod for assembly; Thiele gets Democratic endorsement

As a state Assemblyman, please fight to stop the spending in Albany. Fight for a constitutional amendment that we have an adopted budget on April 1. Fight for the end of the Cadillac Medicaid plan we provide. A Chevrolet plan is just what we need. Fight for an increase in Charter Schools... our public education system is a trough for endless spending...Fight to reduce sales tax, property tax, and fuel tax... Commit to cutting spending across the board...

As far as your concerns for the border... I salute you... No country is sovereign without borders... No country is as generous to border crossers as the United States... No country is so vulnerable because of our porous borders as the United States... First and foremost, border security and control... is not... i repeat is not, an anti immigration issue... in fact it’s not an immigration issue at all... It’s a security and sovereignty issue... Close and secure our borders... that is what our federal government is obligated to do... they are charged with protecting our constitution, which means securing our borders, so that we remain sovereign... as far the millions of illegal aliens, many now with anchor babies and children who are American citizens... we need to deal with it... This is how... anyone regardless of whether they have children here, who is a violent criminal ,drug dealing, smuggling, rape, murder, child abuse, gets deported period...end of story for them... All others who have broken our laws, must be penalized, as our citizens are penalized for breaking the law...pay a fine...$20,000 per person... apply for citizenship... but you go to the back of the line. (And wait a minimum of 15 years to be granted citizenship)... get a green card...pay into our system...learn english and lets move on... we will not speak dual languages, or teach in our public education system, dual languages... we will not change our culture, attitudes or beliefs... they assimilate into the melting pot... that part of the requirement for citizenship...

As far as your profession as a guidance counselor, hopefully you are coaching your students to maximize their skill sets... develop a sense of obligation to take care of self and their families... to not depend on government to bail them out... and to produce in their lives... the goal of school is to prepare students to be productive in society and not a liability to society...if your are in favor of assuring we all have skin in this game "called an experiment in democracy" in this great representative republic that we call the United States of America ... then you are exactly what we need as our representative to the New York State Government... Good luck....

Mattituck woman will receive six months for DWI fatality involving Hampton Bays teen

What a crock.. It doesnt matter if this young man was jumping up and down in the middle of the road. The murderer should not have been driving period! Therefore, the murderer should have never killed this young man regardless of where he was riding, standing, swerving.. Once again, blame the victim, and protect the murderer.... " Jun 2, 10 8:15 AM

To ICE... when one is driving drunk they are engaging in attempted murder... when a poor victim gets in their way and actually kill someone while driving drunk then they are a murderer. Hope that clarifies...Over thirty people per day, 7 days per week, 52 weeks a year are murdered in drunk driving incidents. Thats over 10,000 people in the USA that are murdered year after year... think about how screwed up our priorities are as a society... when we practically put Toyota out of business, held all sorts of Congressional hearings, because a few cars had a mind of their own...These murders are completely preventable... dont drink and drive" Jun 2, 10 9:35 PM

The murderer should have never been on the road, period. It is 100% her fault. She put herself in a position where her needs, wants, desires, came before the safety and life of another. I don care if the victim was dancing naked in the streets.. she should have never been there... This is not her first offense. The victim was murdered... that can never be their fault.. Over 10,000 people are murdered every year by Drunk Drivers... wake up...." Jun 11, 10 1:33 PM

Mother of drunk driving victim protests sentence

Actually she is not a killer.. she is a murderer. She chose to drink, she chose to drive, she chose to disobey the law, she chose to disregard the life and safety of others, including her own child. She should never have been on the road to begin with... so it doesnt matter what the victim was doing, where he was, etc... There should be no discussion of the victims behavior, if we were a truely moral and just society. " Jun 16, 10 10:52 AM
