Charges Dismissed Against Hampton Bays Fisherman

Let's get something straight. Being able to make a living off of a public resource is a privilege and not a god given right. There are limits put in place to protect the resource, the public, and the commercial fisherman as well. Unlike farmers, commercial fisherman do not own the land, do not tend their crops, and do not replenish after harvest. Nobody is forced into this business. I'll say it again, you have chosen a profession that takes its bounty from public resource." Apr 20, 15 11:57 AM

Stuart Vorpahl Reimbursed By State For Seized Fish, 17 Years Later

If there was no DEC there would be no fish or shellfish in our inshore waters. Marine life is a finite resource similar to land on our east end and unless We have authorities making sure quotas are respected, greed would prevail. Everyone loves to romanticize the idea of the east end bay man, but any industry that derives its income from a public resource needs to be monitored and strictly controlled to ensure that fisheries maintain healthy numbers for years to come. Not saying Mr. vorpahl did not deserve his check, just feel like the general contempt for the DEC is a bit foolish." Sep 28, 15 7:02 AM

UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed In Bridgehampton Accident Identified As Anna Pump; Police Identify Driver

Driver had no license according to newsday. The driver circumvented an interlock device most like court appointed for drunk driving. Enough is enough. The community has to take a stand. All illegal aliens withouth a valid license should not be operating motor vehicles. RIP Ms. Pump. I was at Loaves and fishes on Sunday and can't believe this has happened. " Oct 6, 15 11:25 PM

UPDATE: County Road 39 Reopens To Traffic Wednesday Morning; No Serious Injuries Reported

I'm not saying speed was a factor in this accident, but it would be nice to see the most travelled road in town patrolled by law enforcement once in awhile. The only time I ever see police checking CR39 by radar is at night and on the East bound side near Dunkin' Donuts. There are have been major accidents on this road EVERY week lately. Clearly we have a problem that has needed to be addressed for a long time. What can the residents do about this? It would be nice to address the town with a group large enough to make an impact." Fishermen Say State Officers Violating The Constitution With Searches And Sales Of Seized Catch

Everyone needs to play by the rules, both the DEC and the fishermen. If the fisherman makes his living off of a public resource then he can expect to be regulated by and adhere to the rules of a public governing body. It doesn't matter how hard working anyone is, and not all of them are honest. Rules are still rules and they are there for a reason. As far as the DEC goes, I think that they should should stick to what the law allows, in regards to search and seizure." Apr 25, 16 4:34 PM
