Empire, hospitals still at impasse, but issue affecting seniors has been resolved

The time for "lamenting" is over - we need ACTION NOW by our local representatives to end this stalemate. Don't just threaten to have the state and federal regulatory officials investigate - get it done!!! We who live on the East End deserve to be able to go to our local hospitals, rather than traveling an hour to reach one, and to keep our local doctors, rather than having to find new ones who have admitting privileges to Empire in-network hospitals. I'm disgusted." Aug 26, 09 9:46 AM

Town code is easy, enforcement is hard

Seems likes pictures and documentation means nothing to code enforcement. Or is it that someone working in the office has an "in" with illegal landlords because it seems to me that when you make a complaint about illegal living conditions, before code enforcement can even show up, the houses are emptied out and the complaints are thrown out for lack of evidence ....hmmmmmmm . The fact that Mr. Schirrippa was not able to document what Mr. Torres had documented leads one to think, no? Cars coming and going at all hours of the day and night, people being "dropped off" at the end of the block, bicycles in the yard, lights on in the basement at all hours, signs posted indicating "entrada" or entrance, kids being dropped off for bus pick up in Springs when they certainly don't live in the neighborhood - I don't know ya'll, seems to me like something is not right." Wilkinson concedes that dock sale is off the table

All you people who come out to East Hampton to enjoy the "rural character" of it are the very ones who insist on changing it - and for the worse. What is Montauk without it's fishermen? Jeez, it's always been the place to go for fishing. Selling the docks to outside investors? Look what is happening to Main Street East Hampton??? There's your outside investors...They have destroyed East Hampton Village - I guess they are trying to work themselves further east now. This town board is too quick to make decisions without looking at the repercussions, especially to local people. Rome wasn't built in a day, Bill. It takes time and common sense. Southampton Town code enforcement slaps landlord with 50 violations at six houses

When is East Hampton code enforcement going to start doing somethng about all the illegal houses in Springs? They are ALL OVER THE PLACE and right in plain view with over 4 cars in the driveway, people in and out at all hours, bicycles - obviously more than the number allowed. Closing your eyes doesn't mean they don't exist." Jun 4, 10 3:50 PM

Springs School Board Eyes $20 Million Expansion

The clear cut answer is to fully integrate the school districts - Montauk Amagansett Springs and East Hampton. It is not fair that Springs bears the brunt of the illegal multi family housing with 10 DirectTV antennas so they can get bills to "prove' residency. New thing now is to find people who are away and use their on-the-street mailboxes for residency. Amagansett is so underutilitized. Maybe the lines need to be re-drawn. Whatever the end result, there is NO WAY Springs residents can bear the continued burden of more taxes. It is not fair. It is not our kids who are going to the school and those kids who are going to school from mass housing - their parents are not paying the taxes. You people fought when they tried to make people sign up for multi rental properties - well this is what you got - be careful what you wish for because half the "local" people will not be able to afford to live here anymore while those who continue to live with 10 kids/house will continue to get free education." Former Scavenger Waste Plant Site Eyed As Potential Place For East Hampton School Bus Depot

Let's keep making the entrance into Springs the cesspool for everything. Why don't you put it in Amaganserr or south of the highway? We've had our fair share of being dumped on with smells and noise. And they don't even contribute to our tax base!! Find someplace else!" Dec 15, 16 3:14 PM
