East Hampton comptroller sees light at the end of tunnel

So refreshing to hear of competence in local govt. financial affairs. Let's hope Mrs. Verneuille is able to continue her work without being weakened or eliminated by poitics as usual." Dec 17, 09 8:20 PM

New town supervisors will appear at community forum

Everyone who is fed up with EH airport increasing air traffic over Southampton harming our quality of life and property values should attend the meeting and demand of Ms. Throne-Holst to step up and make Southampton a no fly zone under threat of lawsuit against EH. No more passing the buck to the Feds who have already shown over many years they are unable and unwilling to solve our problem of EH becoming a regional airport at our expense. No lame arguments that a few airport jobs and the convience of their wealthy customers is worth destroying what we are living here for.
The fight can be won if enough people think it's worth it." Mar 4, 10 1:58 PM

Bill would give towns authority over wetlands and ease burden, costs for state

This probably would mean more property taxes to fund local review and enforcement now done by the State. I love home rule like the next person, but
the Trustees were 15 years behind EH in eliminating CCA lumber from our waters. The trustees have enough on their plate already." Mar 5, 10 2:52 PM

Southampton Town drops use of preservation money after outcry

Golf at the Bridge in Noyack (1996?). It started as a public golf course and park under Theile and morphed into a private country club and estates under Cannuscio, all under a PDD ordinance in effect at the time. The public was shut out and a vital drinking water aquifer under the course and Trout Pond have been polluted. How's that for public benefit.

Helicopter foe girds for battle

Go Frank. Councilman Stanzone and his ilk are nothing but bought off stooges for the big money airport interests. The draft master plan for the airport provides EH with the blueprint for turning back the clock on the airport to its private days. We in Southampton who bear the brunt of the airport traffic are with you 100%. It's time to take back our air space. " Aug 11, 10 12:48 PM

Copter rules for Long Island Sound to be delayed

So long FAA. The Feds can't help us on the East End anyway. The only solution to the airport will be a local solution, hard fought either politically or in court." Aug 11, 10 1:14 PM

Helicopter foe girds for battle

Dark side a/k/a Copterboy: Many of us live several miles from the airport and have our conversations interrupted and walls rattled by flights from the airport.
What about noise complaints from Riverhead and Shelter Island, among others who have had it with East Hampton and its airport? Should they also move or shut up?
If you had any knowledege of the facts, you would know it has only been the last several years that the airport has become out of control with the growth of commercial helicopter and jet use. The neighborhoods havn't changed the airport has.
Leaf blowers and and the noise associated with bridges, etc. is the old comeback you flyboys use and is irrelevent to the airport issue. We were here first and the airport should be not be permitted to change its uses to our detriment without just compensation. I'll move, just put your money where your mouth is." Aug 12, 10 4:48 PM

East Hampton Town poised to adopt airport plan

We local yokels are screwed if the FAA assumes control of the operation of the airport which this master plan hopes to achieve. Home rule to rid our skies of these noxious flights is being mortgaged for Fed money to create the life styles of the rich and famous airport. Don't forget to wave when they fly by........FAA No Way." Sep 2, 10 4:01 PM

Community Reeling from Arizona Shooting

U.S. gun culture has roots centuries old, and the U.S. Const. 2nd Amendment gives an individual right to possess firearms. But now we have a white SC gun dealer engraving “You Lie” on the handguns he sells in homage to his sucesch Congressman who hurled those words at the President in open contempt and a bloody political massacre in AZ. The country has been damaged. It will get worse if we fail to deal with current lethality. " Jan 13, 11 5:07 PM

New Committee Charged With Tackling Helicopter Noise

Create a new committee? The current East Hampton Town Board together with their airport expansion allies are committed to as many flights at anytime of the day or night.

Based on Councilman Stanzione’s statements and Sen. Schumers legislation, the only goal of the new committee is to shift all air traffic to the South Fork with the help of the FAA in the belief that people here support airport expansion over their homes unlike our neighbors north and west. Maybe they are right.

" Feb 24, 11 12:05 PM

No. The grant assurances given by the town to the FAA are boilerplate basically saying that the FAA rules must be followed (see the FAA website for the grant assurances) and do not prevent the town from working with the FAA to gain some local control of the airport i.e. curfews, number of flights.

The town has a strategy memo from its aviation counsel available to the public which outlines how to gain local control and at the same time take money from the FAA. It is a new legal area perfectly suited for the unique situation in the U.S. of helicopter traffic to and from New York and East Hampton Airport.

The problem is East Hampton has chosen to do nothing but to allow laissez-faire economic development of the airport
