Officials Recommend Traffic Light Cameras, Lower Speed Limits To Reduce South Fork Car Crashes

What is really interesting is that we didnt seem to have this problem before the county decided to expand 39. It was fine with idling cars backed up on 27 coming into a single lane, but some genious decided to change that. Now we have increased traffic volumes on our backroads and accidents on the the main roads not to mention the loss of our bucolic backroads which are now major thoroughfares. Somehow Tuckahoe got a road closed to traffic and I think Noyac Rd should be as well. The businesses werent for 39 expansion as it reduced their sales as its harder to cross the road. So now that they created the problem lets spend even more money trying to fix it. I have a really inexpensive idea. Re stripe to down to one lane in each direction again and see what happens. Nothing that will be done will fix this except to choke the road down to what it was. So what if they are backed up on 27, that never seemed to bother anyone local that I can ever remember. But what do I know I just live here." Aug 18, 13 7:26 AM

Toxic 'Rust Tide' Makes An Unwelcome Return To The Peconic Estuary, Local Bays

I cant help but wonder if the sewage treatment plants in Riverhead and Sag Harbor hae anything to do with this. We never hear much about them and I wonder how well they are controlled and regulated." Aug 21, 13 6:19 AM

Officials Recommend Traffic Light Cameras, Lower Speed Limits To Reduce South Fork Car Crashes

Its a good idea and will pay for itself on Noyac road alone. I drive the limit on purpose and am usually the guy with cars and trucks piled up behind me and obviously we do not have enough police available for our area. Also the speed limit needs to be consistant. There are mutlitple chnages on North Sea and Noyac Roads." Aug 24, 13 7:40 AM

Tuckahoe Affordable Housing Project Draws Support, Criticism

I grew up in NS but couldnt afford to live here. I worked double shifts pumping gas as Crown. I worked for landscapers, house framers, painters. I lived in a basement apartment on Noyac Road with no heat until they turned the water off. I rented rooms in houses. I roomed with two other people which was a disaster. I rented the second floor of a house. When first married I rented a ranch and the landlord promised me 3 years, but I had to get out in 1 as she sold it and wouldnt renew the lease. I move 9 times in 8 years until I found a professional landlord and stayed with him for 9 years until I could afford to buy and it was in Hampton Bays. I couldnt afford to buy in North Sea! I worked and worked and saved for 8 more years until I could afford to buy back in NS.
I bet that the people who are complaining never had to go through what I had to go through as well as many others. Its a continuous topic in just about all our communities. I"I cant afford to live here". So then move away youth there are other more welcoming places NS apprently isnt one of them. No more generational traditions. Let the traffic grow to a morning and afternoon standstill, with all the people we needed to facilitate our daily lives as they all need to come from somewhere else. My physical therapist at the hospitol drove in from mid Suffolk everyday. I woke up one morning and it had snowed and wondered if she would be in. I only had to go 6 miles she went about 30. She was there, but what if she didnt and at least I wasnt critical care. Think about that. Sometimes the needs of the many, out weigh the needs of the few. " Aug 29, 13 6:50 AM

House Ethics Committee Says Reason To Believe Bishop Violated Law With Campaign Donation

Until you remove political contributions from the public tot he candidates, you will continue to have this problem across the board. Tim got caught, maybe innocently, but Im sure there isnt a pol anywhere that hasnt done something for a contributor. Thats just how it works in this country." Sep 13, 13 6:34 AM

UPDATE: Southampton Town Makes Offer To Stave Off Creation Of Sagaponack Village Police Department

Its smarter to contract it out before you get stuck with the munipal employee perk system. This is what is bankrupting the country and taking money away from needed servcies. The "mandates" a self perpetuating system guareenteed to keep us paying and paying. Just look at Detriot and Im sure there are many others. Something like 40cents on the dollar..." Rechler Reps Push For Rezoning Of Canal Property As Hampton Bays Residents Raise Opposition

The Rechlers are savy real estate developers. They knew what they could get out of the properties prior to purchase. Let them build "as of right" which will still provide them with plenty of profit. The angling now is just to squeeze more out of the property, however there is "no community benefit" to over developing the property. As of right or they could just sell it and go somewhere else in Suffolk and try to strong arm there way into pofits above and beyond what is expected. HB is already over developed how could more over development actually be a community benefit?" Sep 14, 13 7:51 AM

Public Meeting Scheduled To Debate Bridgehampton Cell Tower

Certainly we could use improved service for all carriers however the tyipcal cell tower is a blight in the sky. In driving the interstates into Pennsylvania as well as Connecticut and Massachusetts, they cover them to look like pine trees and if you werent really looking for it, they blend in better. So Im for it as long as it doesnt ruin our vistas with its ugly grey steelness and is camoflauged. " Oct 5, 13 7:39 AM

Brown Tide Bounces Back In South Shore Bays

Looking at the photo on Patch looking up the Peconic River west of the 105 bridge, I cannot help but wonder if the Riverhead sewage treatment plant is the main culprit here. Riverhead dumps its treated water right into the river, Acceptable levels may no longer be acceptable. There is also a plant in Sag Harbor Cove and a few times the area has been closed to shell fishing due to a toxin found in the clams. I dont think I would harvest where people poop. Treated or not." Town Board, Supervisor Candidates Debate Code Enforcement In Hampton Bays

Code Enforcement is an issue everywhere, and if it was fucntionong so well in Hampton Bays it wouldnt have needed to be moved. Locating to Town Hall places it in eye sight of the Town Board where it should be. In North Sea there are many illegal rentals including two behind me. Both absentee landlords. In one they park in the rear yard what was once alawn to hide the number of cars. I have counted up to 7 for a three bedroom house. Code needs to be better managed to meet the qualityof life issues in the entire town." Oct 18, 13 6:33 AM

Southampton Town Board Delays Latest Hearing On Canoe Place Inn Redevelopment Plans

They can build "as of right" There is no need in granting anything else as there is little public benefit from any of the plans submitted. The east of the canal development with all those town homes is exactly what is not needed on the shoreline. How will the public be able to access the waterfront and fish or sit? Where will the public be able to park to access the waterfront there on the east side in the town home parking lot?. The plan is just over the top and doesnt fit into the character of the east end. Build your catering hall and botigue hotel, then go for the tax write off and develop a public park on the east side not thats a public benefit!" Oct 23, 13 2:48 PM

UPDATE: Fire Department Responds To Possible Fire At Residence On North Sea Road In Southampton

I have always wondered how many people live in that house. Many satellite dishes. Last night on my way to town there were alot of people milling about. Is that a legal multi family? Glad FD got there as that could have been a real mess next to a gas station." Oct 29, 13 6:42 AM

UPDATE: Southampton Voters Overwhelmingly Defeat Merger Proposal In Straw Vote Tuesday

In Sagaponack, Rooster Shooting Leads To Serious Gun Charge

Now what about the drug criminal just caught in Flanders with two pistols. Did he pass a background check or did they come to him with the drugs? Did he only have 7 bullets in his clip as specified by SAFE? Hmm. This person in this article exercised poor judgement and should be let go with educating him on proper firearm use and locations. Next time use a .410, or an air rifle with a pellet!" Nov 26, 13 6:29 AM

Preservation Effort Loses Out To Deep Pockets In Water Mill

The real issue that I have with the Lauer application is that he already applied for everything he wanted and a project of that scope, you mean to tell me that they didnt think of housing? Its just another ploy to strecth the properties use, beyond what it is permissable. Let him buy a nearby house instead as it already looks way to developed and out of character for the area. Denie the application." Nov 27, 13 6:50 AM

East Hampton Town GOP Approves Airport Capital Improvement Plan In Party-Line Vote

People in Sag Harbor, Noyac and North Sea, need to watch this carefully. Stanzione changed the flight path and screwed us out of our quiet use and enjoyment of our properties by placing the flight path over our homes. We need to be more proactive with the helicopters and pressure a mandotory flight route that the helo's will have to follow. Airport upgrades will only sustain traffic levels. " Dec 4, 13 6:37 AM

Police Seek Help Solving Southampton Village Burglary And Arson

I agree with PBR SHPD should release crime info right away. It took a week before we heard about the home invasion in North Sea. The helicopter circling that night woke me up and I watched it from my window as it searched but no news for a week. We need to know what is going on so we arent running around fat, happy, and stupid as it doesnt seem like we live in Pleasantville anymore." Dec 4, 13 6:42 AM

UPDATE: Police Identify Victim Of Fatal Shooting During Home Invasion Burglary

There was a home invasion in North Sea a few weeks ago. They said it was a shotgun and a pistol. 2 dudes and they took an envelope with cash. Sounds like the same thugs who somehow know these folks have money. Scarey stuff!!! Arm your selves the police cant be everywhere. Should the unfortunate occurr give them everything thats why we have insurance. " Dec 9, 13 7:03 AM

Oddone Conviction Overturned By Highest Court, New Trial Possible In 2008 Killing

I dont know how the lawyer who took the case can live with himself. Turning over a conviction based on a bs technicality. Horrible news. This isnt a win mr lawyer. No pride here. Just proves that it is a two tiered system and those with big bucks are treated differently that us joes." Dec 13, 13 6:52 AM

Oceanfront Boardwalk Part Of Town Plans For Neptune Property In Hampton Bays

Well if they have the money to do that, they can then fund the rebuilding of the Tupper Boat House as well. A small marine based museum to educate on the Peconic estuary and our heritage at Conscience Point would be a great public benefit.Perhpas more than a coast guard museum. While I never knew that Neptunes was a coast guard station we certainly are losing our kitchiness through developement. Just look at the Rechlers Town House project which will destroy the kitchiness of the canal all for personal enrichment. No public benefit there. So the town should do it while they have a chance at it and the coffers are flush." Dec 15, 13 7:57 AM
