Kabot's proposed $78 million budget will eliminate 48 town jobs next year

What a shame that a community as wealthy as ours cannot find a way to protect and care for the animals at the animal shelter. Our fiscal problems, which were caused by mismanagement need to be solved not on the backs of hard working employees and helpless animals (who of course don't vote)." Oct 7, 09 1:33 PM

Animal shelter supervisor dispels rumors, focuses on adoptions

Just like Linda Kabot to pick on those that cannot fight back - its also typical that she would look to close a town facility that is run well by caring, non- political personnel.
A community such as ours with a large number of summer residents traditionally has a large number of abandoned pets; people think its great to have a cat or dog for the summer, then, when they return to the city the pet is put up for adoption. It is the responsibility of an affluent, compassionate community such as ours to care for these no longer wanted animals. its a shame we no longer have compassionate leaders, only self-serving ones, looking only to their next election." Supreme Court lifts injunction on use of Aldrich Park

however, it is a stretch to call a hiring site "recreation". This is not a use that was contemplated when the voters of the town supported the CPF program." Nov 24, 09 7:12 PM

East End still digging out after record snow

We are off of Noyac road also, no plows in sight, no answer at Town Hall, you would think they would have an emergency number or something.
Any suggestions on who to contact?" Dec 20, 09 11:49 AM

President signs historic health care legislation into law with Bishop's support

Tim Bishop should be praised for his vote. He worked hard to find compromise and the best possible bill at this juncture. I am so ashamed of the behavior of the Republican representatives to Congress - they lost an historic opportunity to participate in an enormous step forward - and lost their opportunity to put their stamp on the bill.
For the republicans to just say no because they want Obama to fail is a slap in the face of the American people who voted for their representatives to participate in government, not only to play at politics." Mar 23, 10 7:11 PM

Stony Brook University will announce drastic cuts to Stony Brook Southampton

Why did they insist that the radio station (88.3) move out, at considerable expense to a community station. It was a beautiful facility and now will be empty. Also, the library was just completed - what a waste . " Apr 6, 10 11:24 PM

Officials want to use Southampton Town's Community Preservation Fund to save Stony Brook Southampton

You must be kidding - then the Hamptons would be like everywhere else; crowded, strip malls and big box retail. We have a special community; lets protect it." Apr 25, 10 2:30 PM

Town Board hears from 'Tuckahoe Main Street' developer

I can't understand the comment from the Town board that the developers property rights have to be weighed against the community's wishes - the developer only has a right to develop the property as zoned.
It is not zoned for a shopping mall, or any commercial development as Mr. Morrow knew when he bought the property.
And Nancy G - the scale is not the question - the question is do we need more retail development at all when we have so many vacant stores on 29 and in the Village." Jun 14, 10 11:11 AM

Exactly right!!" Jun 15, 10 9:39 AM

Southampton Town PDD process upside down, critics say

The developer has a right to build what is allowed under current zoning - there is absolutely no obligation for the town to let a developer build more than what is allowed (your words) -
A developer can ask for whatever they want and the Town has an obligation to the community to just say no -
Over development degrades the property values and rights of all SH property owners, commercial and residential." Jul 1, 10 11:02 AM

Bridgehampton CAC thinks Water Mill PDD will cause traffic problems

The planning and development administrator - Jeff Murphree should do his job - I wonder why all he seems to support are shopping centers - a real planner would look at the traffic and demographics to see that we need no more shopping centers - again why should SH look like the rest of Suffolk and Nassau with strip mall after strip mall - we can't support them in the winter and once built they are there forever. " Jul 5, 10 9:47 AM

Southampton Town drops use of preservation money after outcry

Sebonic was a PDD - this again, is a problem with the PDD's - there is no oversight on the public benefit - someone in the Planning department should be assigned to oversee that the benefit actually takes place, i.e., that the money has been spent correctly, or in the case of land donation (such as the development on Major's Path) that the land has actually been transferred to the public entity that was supposed to get it. Then the public should be informed that they have been "benefited"." Jul 8, 10 10:14 AM

Yep - sure." Jul 8, 10 5:16 PM

Perhaps they thought no one would notice - surprise, the public did notice, thus the excuses." Jul 9, 10 9:32 AM

Southampton Town planner defends Tuckahoe planned development district

If anyone from the Southampton Press reads these comments - this conflict of interest between Murphree and his wife's representation in from of the PB - would make a great newspaper article - what an interesting piece of investigative reporting this would be! come on SHPress - step up to the plate, the public really deserves to know what is going on at Town Hall." Condos proposed in return for saving Canoe Place Inn

The developers have lots of clout and money - they are the same ones building at Gabreski airport and co-own the Nassau Coloseum site - they are big deal developers and are much more sophisticated and knowledgeable than ATH and her planning staff re: developing what they want. Just watch." Jul 12, 10 10:19 AM
