Delay In Application Approval Process Angers Dozens In Flanders

I want to make it abundantly clear that I support small businesses. ALL small businesses. I have NO commercial interest in my brother's company. He doesn't pay my mortgages, he doesn't pay my bills. I have no greater financial interest in Go Green Sanitation than I do in any other sanitation company. What I do have an interest in is encouraging a community to insist that it is well represented in community organizations, and help those that make a community better not worse. Vince, you have gone on a crusade to slander me and malign my intentions any chance you could get. Not once have you acknowledged any of the well thought out reasons that the community is opposing this garbage district. Reasons that came FROM the community. This is an added cost to families that diligently recycle and use the dump, roughly 15% of of the 4,500+ people that reside in Flanders. It isn't fair to seasonal residences, those that elect to have backdoor service or the handicap. It also proposes raising taxes on the MOST economically distressed hamlets on all of Long Island.

Instead, you have chosen to question my motivations, influence politicians, intimidate a room full of people that came to your meeting excited to participate and write off our opinions as "followers of the Fishers. You comments are again misleading because you intentionally refer to one Mr. Fisher, but the facts that you are referring to relate to 2 separate individuals. I do agree with you on 1 thing though. It was responsive government to initiate the garbage feasibility study. Brad wrote legislation that you asked for, and I believe he felt your entire organization wanted. I think you misrepresented that organization and probably failed to mention that you had 8 people in attendance at the time that the BOARD voted to encourage the town to pursue this.

You are the only one here guilty of serving his own self interest. I rallied a community to combat your tactics, and now we want that same responsive government. We want the town board to say we heard you, we were misinformed, and we'll focus our resources on something that the community wants, like addressing all of the debris in the woods making the firefighters' already dangerous job even more dangerous, addressing the school tax rate versus return in terms of education spending, repaving County Rd 24 etc. The community is brimming with excitement and phenomenal ideas, sadly you never opened your ears to hear them." Sadly, most of what he does is try to malign people personally rather than encourage dialog in his "community association." It's my opinion, after engaging with nearly 200 residents over the past month, that that is why his membership is dwindling. Flanders Residents AGAINST Town Garbage Pickup on facebook has proven that the community DOES care and they're tired of being treated poorly. " Apr 15, 15 10:07 PM

Earthgirl, you're almost right. He USED to be good at maligning people's reputations. The people of Flanders know the content of my character and what I'm about and don't believe his nonsense. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. " Apr 15, 15 10:09 PM

Thank you Meigan, I again appreciate the time you took to clarify the origins of the facebook page. PS. Great idea by the way you started a movement. " Apr 15, 15 10:10 PM

Flanders Residents Continue To Trash Garbage District

One quick note, the petition doesn't ask the town board to kill the idea. The petition states that "I live in Flanders, Riverside or Northampton. I am against Southampton Town creating a garbage district in my hamlet." My hope is that the people who signed the petition will attend the May 15th meeting at Phillips Ave. School and let the board know how and why they feel the way they do." Apr 15, 15 10:15 PM

Taxpayers To Southampton Town: Kick Garbage District Proposal To The Curb

^hello anonymous inaccurate surmiser. I only speak for myself, not a mob, but I'll give you my opinion. My opinion is that is so clearly unpopular with the residents and property owners of the three hamlets, why would the town continue to pursue the idea or continue with a study? Flanders is in need of the town's attention and resources but this issue isn't, as so clearly represented by the people in attendance, and the nearly 500 property owners that signed the petition to vote against the referendum if it should appear on a ballot. If the legislation was perfect in its current state, didn't require so much revision and the need to be rebid, I could understand putting it to a vote. Sadly, it needs a lot more work and would require a lot more time for revision before it would be ready for a vote. " May 18, 15 10:44 PM

I own two homes in Flanders and have lived here for 30 years. I have as big a stake as anyone in what happens here. Were you at the meeting or did you watch it on tv just out of curiosity? It wasn't a circus show it was actually quite calm and quite productive. As for the majority being in attendance. The majority of residents sadly don't even turn out for a vote. I think the showing that did come (at the town's invitation not the "opposition's") made a case to the board that this is a bad idea and one that isn't worth pursuing. " May 19, 15 7:43 AM

UPDATE: Southampton Town Councilman Brad Bender Pleaded Guilty On Drug Charges And Resigns, Facing Up To 20 Years In Prison

It's so unfortunate that those of us in Flanders, Riverside and Northampton finally had an elected from our area that we hoped would truly represent us, and instead he worked behind the scenes to destroy our community. Brad Bender ruined lives and he hurt families (mine included). Beyond that, he used his position of power to intimidate and bully and discredit people with real integrity by resorting to dirty politics. He embodied everything that could go wrong in a politician and I am relieved to know he's been exposed and won't be able to hurt people going forward." Nov 24, 15 11:22 AM

Gregor Argues Against Use Of $3 Million Grant To Raise Dune Road

Go Alex. If Alex's information is accurate, the civic leaders in Flanders, Riverside and Northampton need to step up and advocate for their hamlets. If there is in fact CDBG money up for grabs, we need it a hell of a lot more than raising Dune Rd, which can be washed away in the next superstorm. " Mar 25, 16 7:01 PM

Turnout Will Be The Wildcard In June 28 Congressional Primary

There are 2 things that really motivate me to get to the polls. One is passion for a candidate that I like and feel that he or she truly represents the Democratic Values I relate to. The other is disdain for a candidate and the desire to see them finally get their comeuppance. In this election, I find I am doubly motivated to cast my ballot for Dave Calone on June 28th, and will be encouraging all of my friends and family to do the same." Jun 15, 16 12:14 PM
